phaide
All the radio stations on PC are high quality except for Rise FM. You can hear the difference and I was wondering how I could make it high quality. Could I download an hq version and just replace the files? If so, where would I get an hq version to download? I listen to Rise alot.
DEALUX
stef_92 made a high quality remake of the station without dialog, but I'm not sure if he still has it. The makers of the Xbox mod ripped the radio stations from the Xbox version, which apparently are in better quality: http://www.4shared.com/music/uwt8hgtC/RISE.html But it isn't really higher quality except that the sample rate is higher, otherwise the PC audio files have a higher bit rate. buzbegone
The highest quality released to date is the Steam version of GTA III. Ash_375 can tell you more...
DEALUX
No, it's not. It is the same as the CD version, I have the Steam version. buzbegone
the Steam Version is still the best at 256kbps WAV at 32Khz with the Xbox version coming in close at 128kbps WMA8 at 44.1Khz. Maybe you two can sort it out. This guy knows his sh*t
DEALUX
If you read that whole topic you will find the part where he says that the Steam version has all the files in the same quality, it's not higher than the disc version in any way, he doesn't even say that in the topic. buzbegone
http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=495708&st=0 This topic? I'm not arguing with you. I'm just repeating what this guy (who's done his homework) said.
DEALUX
I actually thought you quoted him from this topic: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=496284 But I actually checked the disc Rise.WAV and it has the same bit rate, sample rate and bit depth as the Steam version. Xbox version has a higher sample rate which might give you the impression that it is higher quality. Ash_735
And here I am, the source of the arguments Just to confirm, the Steam version IS the best available version as they've been done with the masters from the Xbox version, only here they've been encoded as 256kbps, 32Khz, 4bit LPCM (Same settings the retail version uses for all stations except Chatterbox) this also includes Chatterbox, so if you want the best quality version of Chatterbox, Steam version is the way to go. The Xbox versions were encoded with 128kbps, 44.1Khz, WMA8, which is quite an outdated codec, but because of the higher sample rate it will sound slightly cleaner but the negative of that is that the flaws of the lower bitrate are also amplified, which is why I prefer the sound of the Digital Distribution versions. Now, the case here is about RISE FM, and I'm going to be honest, mastering wise, for some odd reason, it was never re-done for the PC version and again, was never done for the Xbox release, which means, the Digital Distribution versions couldn't use the "remaster" because it wasn't available, so yeah, ______ is right in this case, the one on Disc is the same as the one on Steam, since the station was never remastered. By that logic, it does mean the Xbox version might be the best sounding one available due to the higher sample rate making it sounds a bit cleaner, and because the station was never treated properly, the flaws are on all versions, so the negatives of using WMA8 arn't really an issue here. Just to round off, the Mobile version of GTA III uses the Digital Distribution versions converted to 96kbps, 32Khz, MP3, so again, no remaster for Rise FM, also a shame as these could have been converted from a Master and could have been the best available yet, but no.
