nightwalker83
If Xbox is the only reason you haven't played the game or if you have played the game on pc I say forget it. I don't think much (if anything) changed in the versions.
Karjerker
Nightwalker83, you state that you think nothing much has changed - well, I notice that you have not played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which if you pardon my saying so is a big mistake. GTA-SA is an excellent game, essentially parodying gang culture and warfare in a GTA version of South Central Los Angeles. I purchased the special limited edition, which included a video of what happens immediately prior to the events in San Andreas and the arrival of Carl 'CJ' Johnson, the primary character in said game. C.J. as he is known, goes home in order to see that his mother is buried after being gunned down in a vicious drive-by shooting by parties unknown driving a Green Sabre, only to be picked up by a trio of local bent cops who blackmail him into working for them ... but that is merely the beginning, for C.J. has to undertake missions for his homies, deal with squabbles, take back lost territory stolen from the Grove Street Families during his time in Liberty City ... anyway, the game involves a complex and very enjoyable storyline which I strongly recommend you try. It can be played under Windows XP and Windows 7. In my experience and opinion, SA was a considerable leap forward in gameplay, programming and interactive detail compared to the previous GTA, and the same is true of GTA-IV. And to the original poster ... other than you missing out on LIVING one hell of a great interactive novel about life, death, betrayal and cops who are so trigger happy they make Schwarzenegger look like a boy scout doing a commercial for Little Debbie cup cakes. Irrespective of what you read in the forums, in the press, why not go ahead for give GTA-IV a try - its a damned good adventure, and there is plenty in it to experience, if only you're willing to take time out to discover the detail crammed into it. I remind you that GTA-IV is a trilogy, with GTA-IV the main game being supplemented with two additional games, namely The Lost and Damned, and The Ballard of Gay Tony to fully enjoy and understand the storyline. I agree with this. Beside the complete edition of GTA IV with TLAD and TBOGT is pretty cheap nowadays. You'd be crazy not to at least give it a go. You may like it, you may not. IMO it fixed a lot of the gripes I had with the series like shooting for example. Be warned it doesn't have as many features as SA, but it more or less served as the foundation for this generation without going all out. B Dawg
People still play San Andreas, not to mention GTA 3 and Vice City. Even if old, still fun.
Karjerker
I still play a 1984 game on an PC compatible emulator - its called ELITE, and the emulated machine was a primitive home computer called a BBC Microcomputer 32K - with only sixteen colors, four channel sound and 32K of active memory it was the host to ELITE, the world's first ever 3D real-time wire-frame space combat and trading game - which incidentally was probably also the worlds first sandbox game ... twenty-nine years on, I'm still enjoying that game because it is essentially timeless. I predict the same of Grand Theft Auto IV. It is also my belief that the reason a lot of older games don't continue to be played is because the hardware suitable for playing them is becoming harder and harder to find, and when it does go wrong obtaining parts suitable for them is difficult too. I have here, for example, two old machines which were lovingly rebuilt using older components just so I could play Rogue Trooper (under Windows XP) and the original DOOM, under Windows 3.1 - quite the antiques, but still highly enjoyable. matsvanstam
I didn't play it because I have a bad pc and I had no Xbox. But it's not too late?
Karjerker
Nope, it is NEVER too late - all you need to do is get a tasty PC with go-faster stripes on it and purchase the game. Be advised, the game requires some pretty intense specs, so if possible get a better processor, memory and graphics card - the specs for the machine are posted someplace. I mean, in my case, I forked out $2,550 for my machine (cabinet only) as a present to myself just to play GTA-IV - but then the benefit of my job is having the wages to pay for it. HOTMILFDAD
as long as the story hasn't been spoiled to you yet, I'd say purchase the Episodes from Liberty City game have fun! IV had one of the best stories I've ever played through.
