Arizona: Cutting down a cactus may earn you a twenty-five-year prison term.

California: You may not eat an orange in your bathtub.

Georgia: It's illegal to change the clothes on a storefront mannequin unless you draw the shades first.

Hawaii: All residents may be fined for not owning a boat.

Idaho: A man must not give his sweetheart a box of candy weighing fewer than fifty pounds.

Illinois: It's illegal to take a French poodle to the opera (Chicago).

North Dakota: It's illegal to lie down and fall asleep with your shoes on.

Oregon: State law requires dishes to be drip-dried.

Pennsylvania: It's illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.

The best weird law is, Massachusetts: No gorilla is allowed in the backseat of any car.

Click the link for the full list there were too many to post here.

I cant find the links anymore (maybe someone else can) so they might not be 100% correct.

but the 2 weirdest ones I know of are:

California: Anyone who detonates a nuclear weapon within city limits must pay 1 500$ fine.

Utah: You may own a nuclear weapon, but can not detonate it.

Auburn, Alabama: Men who deflower virgins, regardless of age or marital status, may face up to five years in jail.

Haha that list was great:

Kansas: It's illegal to throw knives at men wearing striped suits (Natoma)

That's one of the best, you can throw at women and normal men all you want, but don't throw any towards people from the mafia!

Arkansas: A man can legally beat his wife, but not more than once a month.

I should use this to my advantage.

I'm skeptical that most of these "weird laws" are actually enforced. I looked up weird laws for New Jersey.

*"Drivers must warn those who they pass on highways before they do so." and "All motorists must honk before passing another car, bicyclist, skater, and even a skateboarder." I never learned that in Driver's Ed, and I've never warned anybody while passing them on a highway, aside from using my blinker.

*"It is against the law to “frown” at a police officer." Too late i guess

*"In an attempt to “foster kindness” in the citizens of New Jersey, the month of May is designated “Kindness Awareness Month”. Never heard of this, and I'm positive that nobody participates.

*"You cannot pump your own gas". This is true. I have no clue how to operate a gas pump. All my life I've had my gas pumped for me by attendants, and It's illegal to get out of my car to do it myself. I've also never gotten gas in any other states, yet. Ever since 'Jersey Shore' came on TV people here say "we pump our fists not our gas".

When you mix Arkansas and Alabama you get...

Men who deflower virgins once a month, regardless of age or marital status, may beat their wife but not longer than five years.

@08: theres the same law in Oregon.

Going around a Speed Bump in Washington state is a $500 ticket. And they do enforce it (driving with out insurance is also a $500 ticket)

Most of these are misquoted, misunderstood, or simply made up. Just for example.

Indiana: The value of pi is 4, and not 3.1415.

And here is what actually happened.

Please, keep in mind that people are extremely gullible and will repeat anything they hear. Do some fact-checking before becoming one of these people.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Spaghetti Cat

Florida: Robert and Angela Van Etten, Florida members of the Little People of America, convinced the state's legislators in 1989 that dwarf tossing be made illegal. A measure banning dwarf tossing was passed with a wide margin.

Dwarf tossing: a bar attraction in which dwarfs wearing special padded clothing or Velcro costumes are thrown onto mattresses or at Velcro-coated walls. Participants compete to throw the dwarf the farthest.

Sounds like a winner to me. Though you have to wonder, is it all that bad if the dwarf volunteers him/herself to do it?

That's what people claimed before (and after) the Do-Gooders closed down the BoardWalk, Circus and Carnaval Side Shows. Now, the 'Freaks' have to find 'Regular' employment just like the rest of you. Imagine the Lobster Woman , Fat Lady, or Bearded Lady, as a shop clerk, secratary or flight attendant?

I'm not sure if Australia has any laws that strange but then again given our current government.

South Carolina:

It is considered an offense to get a tattoo.

Horses may not be kept in bathtubs.

A permit must be obtained to fire a missile.

It is illegal to give or receive oral sex in South Carolina.

When approaching a four way or blind intersection in a non-horse driven vehicle you must stop 100 ft from the intersection and discharge a firearm into the air to warn horse traffic.

It is perfectly legal to beat your wife on the court house steps on Sundays.

Every adult male must bring a rifle to church on Sunday in order to ward off Indian attacks.

Yeah i don't believe most of the "facts" i read, their mostly bullsh*t, and if they were real, nobody would enforce them.

This one is legit...i think.

-In Australia it is illegal to own a bullet proof vest if you are a regular civilian.

Oral and anal are illegal in NC. The specifics mention something along the lines of "oral/anal are sexual acts for purposes other than having children." THAT is the reason they give for making it illegal, yet it's still perfectly legal to sell condoms and birth control...

Anyways, the only one I know is true on that list is that "it's illegal to eat an orange in a bathtub". That's because the bath oils would mix with the acid in the orange an result in a chemical reaction.

A lot of these laws were created back in the day and aren't enforced. A common theme in wacky US laws involve horses or car things. I don't recall the exact places, but I've heard:

*If you pass a horse on a road you have to take your car apart piece by piece and hide it in a nearby bush

*You must bow at the waist when a horse passes on the street

*If you encounter a horse carriage you must fire off roman candles

And my favorite:

*A woman cannot drive a car unless a man is running in front of it, while waving a red flag
