^ Yeah that is so cool if you think about it. Like you said, if it wasn't for Heisenberg (and therefore the whole Pollos Hermanos thing coming out in the open) Hank would've never gotten promoted. Wow that is just mindblowing, really. God, this makes me wanna see S5B even more... what will Hank do??? LOL maybe he'll just slam that book shut and go 'I didn't see it, i didn't see it' and put it right back, all panicky and what not cry.gif

So, I found time where I can do the rewatch on Saturdays, sometimes Sundays if I have time!

That's why I am catching up on Season 1 of the rewatch all day, Saturday! smile.gif

Don't stop the rewatch, GTA-King! This shall be our goal to finish the rewatch and finally watch Season 5B!

Ugh, I don't want this show to come to an end though! sad.gif

You might as well just watch all of season 1 this Saturday... because we are now on the last episode from season 1 of the Rewatch. And yeah, I've decided to stick with the Rewatch!

Season 5 part 1 finale left me speechless. How do you think Walt will explain the book Hank found in the bathroom?

I think the implication from the season opener is that he's done a runner. Which is what I imagine his response will be to Hank sussing him out.

That's what I think too, but I bet Hank doesn't let Walt know he's onto him... if at all. I'd imagine Hank will secretly gather evidence against him. But the question is... will Hank make the arrest? You have to think for a moment how hard that will blow up in his face. If he WAS to make the arrest, Hank would lose his job because Heisenberg was right under his nose. He would be in massive debt to the hospital because his medical bills were payed for in drug money. He would have to arrest Skyler too for being an accomplice... leaving Junior and Holly without a mother and father. So yeah, there's alot of things he would have to consider.

My opinion is that Hank will gather the evidence to make sure Walt is Heisenberg, and once he has enough he will talk to Walt in private and basically tell him to leave town and change his name... and to never come back. By the way, I think all the while Hank is gathering evidence, Walt is trying to leave the drug business... which proves to be rather difficult. Especially with Declan and his crew. Once Hank banishes Walt... he will HAVE to leave town... thus the business. I'd imagine Declan would then go after Jesse, because he know that's he's also a cook. The whole M60 thing, in my opinion, is Walt coming out of hiding to save Jesse from Declan... but in the process, he sacrifices himself. Maybe because the cancer has returned, and he would rather go out in a blaze of glory.

I don't know... all just speculation of course. I do know they start filming season 5B in December... so that's good. I'd imagine they will finish sometime in April and be ready to start marketing around May. Who knows how this great show will end. All I know is the writers will make sure it goes out with a bang... and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us! smile.gif

I've been participating in the re-watch so far, but I've just been reading GTA-King's reviews afterwards lol, they're very good. Anyways though, I'm posting here because I was thinking - isn't it funny how Vamanos Pest Control was so prominent in Season 5 of Breaking Bad, and "Bugstar Pest Control" seems like it's gonna be a somewhat important part of the GTA V story? :3 That's a funny coincidence I suppose, because there's no way anyone at Rockstar could've known what was coming in Season 5 while they were writing the game

Hey man, it's all good! As long as you are participating that's awesome! Just feel free to comment on my reviews, and add to the discussion of each episode. icon14.gif

But yeah, it really is an amazing coincidence how a Pest Control company, Bugstars, is in Grand Theft Auto V. I'm pretty sure R* were the ones to come up with the idea to use it as a front before Breaking Bad did... but neither had the knowledge of what the other was thinking. Great minds think alike so they say!

Anyway... I just want to say that I highly expect Walter "Heisenberg" White to go out like a legend. All his life he has suppressed his feelings, allowed FEAR to course through his veins. He spent his last years like a KING... and he has never felt so alive in his life. Just imagine riding a roller coaster, and it never reaches it's peak. That was Walter's life before Heisenberg awoken... and allowed the peak to happen. All great King's reigns come to an end eventually... and for King Heisenberg, he is going to go down swinging... just like our fellow King Tony Montana

You're right on the money there. I expect nothing less than an epic last hoorah from Walt... exactly like Scarface. "I take all your f*cking bullets! I'm still standing huh!" F*cking epic as f*ck. Excuse my French. But i am a little weary to predict the final ending though. We really need the other 8 episodes to see what's what.

Breaking Bad season 5B premiers in about 253 - 267 days. If we count an early July premiere (7th) it's 253 days left. A mid-July premiere would mean 260 days, a late July premiere would mean it's 267 days left. My bet is we'll get season 5b July 14th which is 260 days from now. We're getting closer but it's still an awful long wait! But we have already waited almost 2 months now so July will be here in no time! While we're waiting for Breaking Bad we will always have GTA 5 to keep us occupied.

A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal

The episode starts out pretty great. Really shows how much Walt has become addicted to adrenaline. And Skyler looks like she has embraced this new thrill as well. "Why was that so good?" She says. "Because it was illegal." replied Walt. cool.gif

Next we see Jesse trying to sell his house... which I really don't blame him for doing. One dude was melted, and the other was killed in that house... and most likely melted as well. So yeah, definitely haunted! Walt tells Jesse that he got their cut from Tuco, but Jesse doesn't believe him. Walt tells him that it's true, and that he striked up a deal for 2 pounds a week. This pisses Jesse off, understandably. Things are going well for Walt, and Jesse really has no say. This is something that will frequently happen in the seasons to come.

THE PORK PIE HAT IS SHOWN FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! I like to call it Heisenberg's crown though, haha. Anyway, I think it's funny that Walt chose the junkyard as their meet spot. Totally something you would see out of a gangster movie. Makes me wonder if Walt sees himself as one of those guys. I digress. Walt sure is a greedy mother f*cker ain't he? I think the only reason he's greedy at this point is because he doesn't know how much time he has left, which is why he wants to make alot of money quick for his family. However, there's no excuse for him being greedy later on when he's in remission. We will talk much more about that later.

Now we see one of the first instances when Walt manipulates Jesse into getting what he wants. "This is the first day of the rest of your life." I mean, it's good that Walt is making Jesse believe in himself (something his parents has obviously never done), but he is doing it for all the wrong reasons. Rather tragic if you think about it.

"Sometimes the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest." exclaims Hank while smoking a cigar with Walt. Possible foreshadowing of Hank turning dirty to help Walt? Highly doubt it to be honest. I think that scene is just trying to show how opposite Walt & Hank are. Damn good scene, I must say. icon14.gif

Few snippets to wrap this up:

-Walt and Jesse's first heist was hilarious! Who would have guessed that one day they would rob a train?

-It's interesting how Walt tries to use Marie's shoplifting to justify his actions. Perhaps that was the whole purpose of Marie's subplot?

- I think the theme of that last scene was to express the violent future ahead of Walt and Jesse... then cut to credits. "Who's going to save my soul now?"... one of the lines in that closing song. Only you can Walt... only you can. Redemption in season 5B? We shall see.

Well... season 1 of the Rewatch is complete. That means we are one step closer to season 5B. Next weekend we will kick off season 2 with Seven Thirty-Seven. Can't wait!

Well i'm a bit late but here's my two cents... cool.gif

This part ^ (and actually throughout the entire episode) tells us a lot. The first thing i noticed, is how relaxed Walt has become. We definitely saw a snippet of future Walt regarding this... we see him after he got his first 'win' confronting Tuco (like a boss... there was never more use for this phrase, ever) and finally getting what he wanted: real money. And he looks só much at peace, like reborn actually. No more dilly dally about small stuff, insecurities, people's opinions... no. Just taking what you want and being real. It's like Tuco says, 'Heisenberg says relax!' which hits the nail right on the head.

So that speech tells me that Walt has made up his mind. He wants to go BIG, and pursue that money and validation. This is Empire-talk right here, he's letting Jesse know that there are big times ahead of them, and he better shape up...

That's also why he was (painfully) caught off guard at the babyshower, with the camera. He's not planning on seeing his daughter grow up at all, it was almost as if he was talking to her from beyond the grave... he made a good speech but he wasn't ready for that at all.

Anyway... i was real happy to see that Walt is definitely an honourable person. We know he is, deep down anyway, but the fact that he gave Jesse the $15K like he said to Tuco, is just beautiful, really. He could've easily keep it in his pocket but he just gave it to him. Despite the fact he really needs it. Good for him, man. And for Jesse, lol. Walt genuinely cares for Jesse and feels a lot of responsability towards him. But there are other examples of that throughout the series.

That scene with Hank and the cubans indeed shows he's a hypocrite. But that talk about legal/illegal just says it like it is. We don't live in a perfect world, just one of hypocrites. At least i think so.

Oh, and it's quite a shame we get to see so little of Tuco on Breaking Bad... his character is really impressive and a good depiction of a criminal pshychopath. I really like his character... you can almost feel his presence. That beating-up scene still kinda 'gets to me', after like 100 times. "Damn man look at that! Look!"

A 'No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal', huh? Guess not, lol.

(BTW the music that comes in after that, for the credits, is a great song!

Breaking Bad generally has SUCH an insanely great soundtrack... it's crazy!

On a little sidenote...

this was a really entertaining episode to watch... There were also quite a lot of humourous moments which were genuinely funny!

- Jesse's reaction to 'First day...'-speech: "What are you doing?" and that face... lmao! I laughed hard at that.

- "Taco Cabeza. Noone gets shot at a Taco Cabeza" etc. etc. was real funny! Just the two off them standing there like a couple of dipsh*ts and Jesse telling Walt the truth was hilarious!

- "Yeah Mr. White! Yeah science!" Classic.

- Jesse: "Sweat lodge? I'm already sweating, help me out." lol

- I gotta say... that face Walt made when he decided to go grab him some Skyler, was price-less. That 'I don't give a sh*t' expression like no other.

Oh right, i almost forgot.

Yeahhh buddy! We had ourselves a little piece of Carmen again! lmao i can't resist man, she is so damn fine man... Just look:

Sooo... that was it for season 1, huh? I can't help but reminisce about the first time i saw all of that. It was nothing less than GREAT to watch man, exciting stuff. Intriguing, really. And watching it all again is such a pleasure...

I love this show!

^ Totally agree about Walt starting to feel more comfortable as a criminal. I mean, he blew up a high distributor's HQ. If that doesn't evoke confidence, I don't know what will! lol.gif

I think Walt may have a SMALL desire to go big with the business at this point, but I still believe he's doing this primarily for his family and not for himself. He may be simultaneously doing it for himself and for his family though. We will have to analyse that better in season 2. icon14.gif

And yeah, he's definitely starting to try and control Jesse. I think Walt likes being able to control something. He's lived his life being controlled by others, so that is understandable. Poor Jesse... all he really wants, in my opinion, is a father figure. They both truly have a tragic relationship. I also got that same feeling from Walt at the baby shower.

EDIT: I see you've edited your post. Yeah, Walt is very loyal to Jesse... as long as he can control him. Without Jesse, Walt would have never survived in the drug trade. Something else I've always considered with Walt and Jesse is that Walt sees him as more of a son than his real son. I mean, sure Walt loves Junior, but with him having cerebral palsy, that really limits what they can do together. I guess you could say Walt has more of a bond with Jesse than he does with Junior.

I agree with you about the scene with the cigars, but I want to discuss Tuco... and strangely, how much he is alike with Walt. Both of them sees the drug trade as some sort of "game." Like for instance... when Walt blows up Tuco's HQ, Tuco admires his ruthlessness and all he wants to know is what kind of explosive Walt used. Freakin' hilarious! Also, when Walt killed Gus... he told his wife "I won."

Just a big f*cking game with these guys! lol.gif

^ Oh no, you're definitely right about him doing it for his family at this point, but i do feel that what he pulled off, and touching those wads of cash, kinda planted the seed for him that he could really get far in the business. Subconsciously, he hinted that at Jesse wink.gif

Must say, i agree about the father-son thing. It's actually real trippy if you think about it: is it possible that Vince Gilligan chose for Jr. to be this way (c.p.) so it allows for Walt to really look at Jesse as a 'son'? To invest in this other kid besides his son, because that is somewhat understandable? I'm sure of it...

Yes, man, very apt. Walt and Tuco are very much alike.

Tuco really respected him for being so crazy. Any other 'lunatic' like Tuco would shoot him up, but they went into business together. Also because of the high-grade product, but still! Walt earned his respect. That's very cool, man.

But, come to think about it... isn't it really all a game? Like chess, plotting your moves to get to where you wanna be? smile.gif

Well, when I say that Walt & Tuco sees the drug trade as some kind of big "game" I mean that they basically do it for the thrill. Tuco is psychotic, so it's understandable why he gets a thrill out of it. With Walt, he gets the thrill because his whole life up until his cancer diagnosis was so boring and monotonous... so living this new wild and dangerous lifestyle is the thrill for him. They're both loose canons... with poor judgement.

People like Gus and Mike (and pretty much everyone involved in Gus' drug ring) take the drug trade more seriously. icon14.gif

Ah yes, i see what you mean. True, true.

But i do see Walt less of a loose cannon, more of someone who just doesn't care. Yes, there's a slight difference. He may be just as destructive as Tuco, but he does those things thought out, accepting what he is about to do, no matter how crazy or dangerous. Also because very often he sees no other possibilities. Tuco just acts on impulses, his psychotic instinct. So i'd give Walt a little more credit than that, even though you are right about him seeking the thrill just as much as Tuco.

But pro's like Mike and Gus are more 'admirable'. They do have things more together, and really flourish as criminals. Which is the way to go, really.

The problem Walt has is that he thinks the world owes him something, so he strives to be the "king." The way he deals with everything, although smart... usually ends up not being so smart. Take for instance... Jane's death. I mean sure, who could have suspected that her death would have resulted in the death of many others. But that was Walt's choice. Walt may think he has everything in order... but it has always been "1 step forward, 2 steps back" with him. I mean, think of everything Walt has done and weigh the pros and cons. I'm willing to bet the cons weigh more.

With Tuco, it's much simpler. He does what he does because he wants to. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Jane's death benefited him. I don't think he cares about the plane crash or anything since we never got his views on it even though they could have written some in if he cared.

Can't wait to see what happens next year. Overall I really wanted Gus to stay in the show and die. I mean he worked so well. Problem is he has a big impact on the story line and the entire show is much better with the idea that Walt killed him.

Link to comment

Of course he benefited from Jane's death. If Jane would have lived, then her and Jesse may have both died of overdose. Her death resulted in around 160 other deaths... and that's something Walt didn't anticipate... hell, who would? But in the end, it WAS his choice... so therefore it's his fault. He caused the butterfly effect, if you will. There's plenty of other things that Walt has caused indirectly. Like Combo's death. If Walt wasn't so greedy and had Jesse push his crew into other territories, then Combo would still be alive. Walt just has poor judgement.

Also, Walt does express his views on the plane crash in the first episode of season 3. When they are at the assembly at the high school... he basically tells everyone to just "move on."

EDIT: I was just talking to my sister on facebook about TV shows she should watch. This is how I described Breaking Bad to her:

First, you're going uphill...

Then BAM left turn!

Next you're going uphill again...

Then BAM, BOOM you're going right!

Then, you're going up yet another hill...

BAM, BOOM, POW you're doing 36 loops!

Pretty accurate, right? icon14.gif

^ If you add up all the indirect deaths/other situations Walt has caused, indeed you'll see just how much chaos he causes. It's crazy. We had a summery of that a few pages back, right? It was mindboggling. But Jane's death is not something he caused. Yes he could've/should've woken her up, any normal person would. But if he wasn't there it would've happened anyway. His reaction was none, he didn't want Jesse to know he was there, but that wouldn't be a big problem though, he would just have some explaining to do. So, he should've woken her up for sure, but he didn't. Maybe if the situation wasn't over so quickly, he would've come to his senses. And he had no idea Jane's dad was the cause of that crash 'till waaay later though.

Surprisingly matching description, indeed cry.gif
