As usual a sublime emotion filled episode.

So that’s why Jesse didn’t burn down the house. Hank showed up and persuaded him out of it. The question is how did Hank know what Jesse was about to do? He’s been staking out Walt’s house now? Anyway I feel Jesse’s frustration and I surprised myself when I let out a small groan of agony with him. I can’t think of anymore cool ways to describe how good Aaron Paul. His acting has been consistently consistent in each episode. He doesn’t miss a beat in terms of painting Jesse’s emotional state. The gravelly voice and the red sunken eyes it’s all still here since “Blood Money”.

I love it when Walt starts telling lies. I laughed like a hound when he was trying cover up the gasoline smell to Junior and Sky. He doesn’t even realise he is so transparent it’s hilarious! And I love it even more when Sky doesn’t believe jack rabbit. The look on her face is spine tingling. Why it is that Walt Junior is so dumb that he cannot find out what’s going on really? If my parents acted in strange ways around me I would clocked on since season 1.

The car scene with Saul was greatly shot. Loved the lighting and Saul and Huell managed to be funny even though situations are serious. ‘…something called Babylon 5?’ Ha-ha that’s awesome. That’s our Badger all right.

I loved the scene also with Skylar and Walt in the motel. Did anyone else’s mind snap in two pieces when Sky actually suggests that Walt get rid of Jesse? Wow, she really solidifies her transformation to the dark side or (or Walt side). The way she spun the conversation car around left me flustered. Seriously the writing packs so many layers of meaning in each sentence it’s hard to keep up. When Sky said “please tell me these are euphemisms right?” I shook my head in disbelief. Walt’s shock and repulsion was the same as mine.

Btw that’s the second time Walt has refused killing Jesse as a means of protecting himself. This confirms for me now that Walt really does care for Jesse like a son. Aww.

Meanwhile Marie I’m glad has options of her own by thinking of ways to poison Walt. (Walt has turned everyone into murders its frightening) but I feel it’s almost too late now Marie should have had more to do since 3 years ago rather than just steal forks and babies and be a nuisance. Ah well nice to see her have a chance to sparkle as well as Betsy Brandt who did a nice job of showing Marie’s emotional misery.

Lastly is it just me or is anyone else finding it hard to root for someone and stick with them? Hank and Jesse were at the top of my list when the episode started but Hank lost my empathy when he insulted Jesse as he left the room. How dare he? I’ve been on Walt’s side since Day 1 but lost it all completely when he said he wanted to kill Jesse too. I think I want Jesse to come out on top of all this. But what is a win for Jesse, what does redemption look like? Killing Walt? He already feels guilty for killing Gale so adding another murder to his guilt ridden conscience is a step in the wrong direction. Jesse is not a murderer per se. I think Jesse’s win involves outsmarting Walt in some way since he has always been seen as Walt’s lackey.

Overall this was a great episode not much physical action but a ton of plot progression and character development which had the same level of intensity as last week. 9/10.

Sorry for this being so long but I was blown away from that episode. It’s like there so much to digest so many layers in each scene that I don’t know where to start analysing it all. Roll on next week!

Fave lines:

“Do not float that idea again.” - Walt

“These are just euphemisms you’re using here right?” Sky

“For three hours straight he talked about something called Babylon 5.” Kuby

^ To answer your question about how Hank knew that Jesse was about to burn down Walt's house - He said he'd been following him since he left Saul's office.

In the previous episode Gomez confronts Hank about why he placed his men at the office to follow Jesse, but Hank won't tell him. So Gomez removes the men, and Hank leaves the DEA to go surveil Jesse himself.

I was trying to organize my favorite seasons in my head and I got it down now I think, but it was pretty difficult. They're all like equally excellent in my opinion & I can't say any season isn't just about the best thing I've ever seen.

But I'd say my favorite seasons are..

E. 3

D. 2

C. 4

B. 5

A. 1

I just think they did such a great job with the first season. It got me hooked immdietly.

And watching it a second time I kind of appreciated it even more because I was just looking at Walt's progression like daayumm.

But even still - My favorite scene, is in my least favorite season. *Saying least favorite season sounds weird af because that season is awesome.*

Does anybody want to share their's?

Maybe very obvious, but in the first flashforward scene of episode 1 of season 5, we see the sign on the registration plate of Walt's white Volvo saying: 'LIVE FREE OR DIE'. This must be after Walt has become officially wanted, he calls for a new vacuum cleaner and goes away with his new identity avoiding the inevitable fate of being not free; living behind jail bars. But why would he think about coming back? just go away and live your life unless there's some business to deal with. A revenge maybe?

When's the episode that's meant to shock alot of people coming out?

Didn't Gilligan say it was like the one before the penultimate or something.

Yes, the episode before the penultimate. Vince Gilligan stated that his favorite episode hasn't aired yet, which is the episode called "Ozymandias". He said that Ozymandias will "knock your f-ing socks off".

With all this talk about how Hank using the investigation to kill Jesse to get Walt, what if Marie poisoned Jesse with the coffee? She was talking about poison in the episode and she was wearing very dark colors. Maybe Jesse knows this and when he was talking into the payphone he was directing it at Hank. Who knows what will happen. Love this show suicidal.gif

^That would be ridiculous. Marie hates Walt because of the lies and how he willingly implicated her husband and herself in the lies with the money, not because he's a meth dealer. She doesn't really know sh*t about Jesse (even if she does know about the beating and that it was Jesse?) and what she does wouldn't drive her to murder even in her irrational state. If nothing else, she wouldn't want to implicate Hank in a murder.

sh*t man, I'm convinced Marie is one of the most moral characters in the cast.

Also, I know colour theory is heavily relied on with the show, but I'd say the colours are informed by the action around them, not telling of it.

I was saying to some people the other day when we were discussing the show: Remember when this show used to be funny? Like, I know there's some elements of black comedy still present but they kind of have to be in context. Season 1 had some genuinely just straight up funny moments (e.g. the slap fight in Jesse's bathroom, or Jesse buying the plastic tub and trying to cram himself in it in the store).

Just like we've seen Walt change over the run I think the show has changed quite a bit since it first started out. That might just be because I only started watching this summer and binged it all in one go, making the contrast easier to see.

I'm with you man.

I love the way Marie is slowly starting to break.

she seems capable of pulling some drastic sh*t in the event that her conscience finally snaps.

Lewis is the real antagonist. He's the one who's being shifting Walt's blue meth all along and the reason we haven't seen him recently is because he is now in the Czech Republic as that Lydia woman's contact.

Has anybody thought about Vince Gilligan's sneak peek at the next episode this week?

"Lydia learns a valuable lesson about farm raised salmon" I cant figure out what he meant.

I think the farmed salmon is an analogy about the meth business(wild samon vs farmed salmon = less pure meth vs blue meth). Maybe Walt or Todd kill Lydia? Or maybe the new threat to Walt we haven't met yet is rival meth dealers that have had their business hurt by the production of blue meth.

I watched ending of Season 5 and I'm wonderin' if I should start from season 1. It seems really cool, nice cinematogpraphy(spelling lol). My bro told me Danny Trejo is in it so thats a bonus.

I doubt they could effectively bring in new players this late into the game to be the antagonists.

I'm starting to get worried as well. Gilligan promised there would be never before seen antagonists. It's gettin' late Gilligan!

Surely you'd struggle to understand what the f*ck is going on? Not the mention all the subtle references and symbolism to previous episodes which even die hard fans sometimes miss.

@RidingShotgun - As for should you watch it from the start? f*ck yes. I'm jealous you've got the whole story ahead of you to be watched at your own pace. Trejo's in it quite briefly, yes.

I just found this video on reddit, spoilers for EP13 around the ~2:36 mark.

Nothing major but read at your own risk:

Walt gets one of the barrels buried in the desert, drives home in a truck and tells Skyler to pack.
