On topic - It depends when it is released, say consoles are announced for 1 year after V comes out, thats a whole year for people to buy the game before new consoles, it won't put anyone off, after the new consoles come out it would slow down sales, but thats after a whole year, after peak selling point, after a year sales are relatively minimal, but if rockstar would re-release it as a download for new consoles, OR the new consoles will have backwards compatibility, which is likely in which case it wouldn't really slow down sales. Still can't see the point of a 3D phone but whatever, i assume you need glasses for it? Doubt anyone would use the 3D part. Actually no, on small scale you don't need glasses of any kind. The screens have an emulsion layer that sends one picture to one eye and the other picture to the other eye. The draw back is you have to be at the right distance away (30-40cm depending on presumably how far apart your eyes are) and the viewing angle is very narrow in 3D mode. In 2D the screen is beautiful and in 3D mode people are pretty shocked still. With this device I find it doesn't jump out of the phone so much as the depth falls way back. But it looks like when you see a 3D movie with passive glasses. I'd expect in a few years this technology will be improved and passed on to TVs when view angles can be resolved, so wearing active glasses will one day be a thing of the past and the people who own them now probably won't be able to give them away unfortunately. It was only on xbox 360/ps3. now in australia ps3's where $1000 and a 360 was $650 I was 15 at the time and my parents don't buy me expensive sh*t. which is understandable. So needless to say. I WAS staring at magazinies for months after the realise thinking how awesome must it be. A year or so after it dropped. I got money from the goverment for studying (i couldn't believe it either) that was literally how i paid for my 360 and gta iv the goverments money if it wasn't for them i would of only got it like last year im 20 now so you get the idea My point is simple. don't dog you're loyal fans unless it's like gta iv and they have no choice. Theirs alot of people who are now in my boat who can't afford to buy a new console. but thankfully i have a job now so i don't have to worry about it. And when it's time finally does pass the next gen will probably have an insane shelf life. Look at how much $ and time it takes to make a game at today's standards. Systems may span more than a decade in the future, easily. I think there will be a big overlap between this one and the next too, meaning simultaneous development and releases, maybe for a few years. I'd also say this generation of consoles will have really good shelf life. Remember how long the PS2 lasted after PS3 was released? It spent ages getting watered down versions of games. I have a feeling that's what will happen with this generation of games (Unless they stop letting developers from doing that so they increase sales of the new consoles). TLM1975 Posted January 4, 2012 Share Posted January 4, 2012 I remember reading something in 2011 where someone from Sony said that the PS3 is only in the middle of it's life, and still has a ways to go before it reaches it's full potential for what it can do. But having said that, I find it hard to believe they would just chill while XBOX rolled out a new machine. I think 2014 we might see something, but that's just my opinion. With all the DLC and everything, it really expands the life of some games... I don't think they need to constantly bring out new systems anymore. And even if it won't, people won't exactly throw away their PS3s out the window as soon as they purchase PS4. People will keep it I'm sure. he means: what would happen if V was on PS4/720? would ppl buy a new console to play V? I see. He said "would an announcement for the next gen Xbox or the PS4 affect GTA V's sales" which can be interpreted differently. It's not like people gonna sell their old hardware soon as that information comes out. "New GTA V available on Xbox 360, X Box 720 in few months" "OMG I need to sell my 360, but I want GTA too,,, what should I do now?" I don't think so... Whilst new-gen tech launches are always successful, it's still a tiny number compared to those hooked up on current gen. It would be a massive shot in the foot to only develop for those consoles. Next gen has already been announced with Wiiu since you know both MS and Sony wouldn't dare give Nintendo more than a years head start in the next gen market. I'm certain GTAV was always intended to be One last hurrah for current gen which is part of the reason I always bet they would skip vice and go all out and set the game in SA which they did to some extent. No need to worry GTAV will sell like crazy don't forget it will be almost 4 years since we've had a mainline GTA game that's allot of time for hype build up aswell as added install base with consoles being a hell of allot cheaper these days. Since places are already taking pre-orders for 360 and PS3 there would be a lot of backlash if it turned out to be a next gen game. R* know this and wont risk financial suicide. Magic_Al Posted January 5, 2012 Share Posted January 5, 2012 With the installed base of the current gen what it is, Rockstar would release GTA V for the current gen then do a port to the new gen with extra content and better graphics along the lines of Bully: Scholarship Edition. This avoids any delay to the game. The timing just doesn't work out for GTA V to be a game that is really designed for the next gen. Note that one difference between this generation change and last is that Microsoft might not kill the 360 as abruptly as they killed the original Xbox. Think about that, if it was only for new systems, it would not sell right because of how people dont randomly have 300-600 dollars to spend on a new system. The ps3 and 360 like said a million times before by sony AND microsoft are advanced enough. No it's definately coming to ps3 and 360 the graphics are not good enough for next gen, if anything the big surprise will be the WiiU port which will be the first GTA game to come to a Nintendo home console and to top it off it will be the superior console version in terms of performance and added features due to that controller. However graphically from the trailer it looks like current gen. Put it this way, if that is what next gen graphics look like label me disappointed. Who knows guys That looks like a current game game in every sense of the word, there's nothing about that screenshot, including draw distance and detail that cannot be done on consoles today.
