NCONiall
Your English isn't the best but it certainly isn't the worst. At least you are using basic punctuation which makes it much easier to read.
Abel.
I speak Spanish fluently and I've been working on Chinese extensively lately. I have a gift for language so it's never really been much of a problem for me. I have to say though, don't use classroom language learning experiences as an indicator of how good you are with languages. Classroom settings for learning languages have been universally shown to not be effective in teaching language whatsoever. I did take Spanish in HS, but I was fluent already by the time I entered my junior year or so, and that did not come from doing the bullsh*t on paper exercises in a classroom. It came from meeting people online who speak Spanish, Rosetta Stone which was gifted to me, and visiting Spain. If you've been discouraged by not getting far in a classroom, give it another whack. Especially you European guys. It's so easy for say a Brit to go to France or Spain and just stay there for a week or so and really work to pick up the language. I've been learning German for a while now and my understanding of the grammar is pretty good. My problem really is pronunciation and vocabulary. Is Rosetta Stone good for strengthening these aspects of a language? I mean, I study maths as a priority, but I do like improving my German when I can. It teaches you the language like you learned it growing up. It shows you pictures of an apple for example, and then it has you identify that apple with apple in your foreign language. There's no sense in learning grammar imo if you can't communicate the language. Verb conjugations don't get you far when trying to speak the language to people. Infact, people who haven't studied a language don't even know what a conjugation is. If you ask a native Spanish speaker how to conjugate "ceder" in the third person plural, they aren't going to tell you to drop the er and then add the en ending. Jeeebuuus
Welcome . Your english is not bad. Grammar could use some work but we all seem to have that problem to an extent. Your spelling on the other hand is really good. Better than many people who speak english.
Mcquiz
Oh you native english speakers You remind me how Eddie Izzard in one of his stand ups about british said "Two languages in one head, that's impossible!". I can speak 2 languages pretty fluently and I am currently also learning german, spanish and a little bit of latin. I will only really learn German. Pretty easy at the start atleast. Also good luck to 71kostyan97 improving his english ни пуха ни пера Edited January 4, 2012 by top gear

4 Bagger
Makes me wonder how most countries can speak basic English and the English don't really speak any other languages? I tried French for 3 years and failed.... miserably. Anyway Welcome, enjoy your stay. This is really true. Americans especially. Not a lot of people in this country bother to speak a second language. I think it's some kind of superiority complex that Americans and British people have. At least Americans and Brits are not assholes to people learning English like French are to people learning French.
anus
I actually think its because in non-English speaking countries, children are taught from a very young age that English is the universal language and that you need it to be successful, so a lot of people try very hard to learn it (that's the case here atleast). If you think about it, English really is the universal language. More so than Chinese, Spanish, etc because despite the increasing number of Chinese and Spanish speaking people, English is still the language spoken in the US and UK, which seems to give it a very high value. That's probably the reason why not many people of English speaking countries bother learning another language. Because tbh, you don't need it. I can guarantee that wherever you go, you'll be able to get by with English since there will be atleast one person who understands atleast some English. Satourn
Greetings, dude. To be honest, your English isn't good enough, but guys above already said that, but well, for Russian, it's pretty good. And one more thing, don't use Russian here much, as these are mainly forums for English-speaking people. Have fun!

I can read and write German pretty well, I just think I need to work on being more active with it--thanks for the advice, mate. Something like Rosetta Stone could help, though I'm dubious as to how useful it would be to a more advanced learner.

DeeperRed
I'm from Russia. And I would like to know how you my English. I live in the city of Tula. At 180 km from Moscow. The first mention of this city in 1146. Now my city 865 years. In September, would be 866. Most of my friends play sports. I also do sports. I really love cycling. I love my bike with my friends to leave the city. (This is mostly in the summer) In winter, have to walk. Who will be on a bike ride in the winter? Here is my short story. Now I'll write something in Russian Живу в России. Недалеко от Москвы, в городе Тула. Я программист. разрабатываю программы на .NET ( изучаю delphi) Люблю с друзьями заниматься спортом. мне больше всего нравится вело-спорт. Я из форума gtamaps.net. Наверно слышали о таком русско-язычном форуме, не так ли? Кто из gtamaps.net сидит на этом форуме, переделаю привет ( Особенно solom'у и 3Doomer'y ) That made more sense to me then anything Slamman has ever said. In all seriousness though, you get your point across and thats the most important aspect.
