Customization

For me what made San Andreas great for a long time was being able to customize a lot of things. Lots of different clothes to wear, being able to mod cars, plenty of safehouses to buy and etc. Honestly I even enjoyed Saint's Row 2 just because of the cribs you could buy and change around the furniture. Hopefully GTA catches on to this and lets you have plenty of options to spend money on so money's not pointless like in IV.

Yeah there needs to be more things to spend your money on! In IV I had like 2mil of unusable money!

I agree, you need to spend MUCH money and earn it back by doing missions.

That is so true I mean what could we actually buy in IV expect clothes which I had a lot of and didn't need more.

I hope GTA V has good customization which you can spend money on things that are cool. If Rockstar don't include a ton of fun cool customization features then I will be really disappointed because they should listen to the fans this time rahkstar2.gif

customization always adds a great deal to gameplay, but i think that R* should make everything more expensive (not too much though)

Lack of customisation in GTA4 made the game very boring and dull for me. I would be very disappointed if there was a lack of customisation in GTA5 as well.

For real, think about how much you played San Andreas after you beat the story compared to how much you played GTA IV after.

More customization and more grind, I hope. I want an excuse to drive around doing f**k-all and look good while doing it.

For me, what made GTAForums such a successful and harmonious place to be was wishlist threads.

And backseat moderation. POW!

I honestly believe that we'll be able to create our own character this time around... If you watch the trailer, and look at the black/latino man that makes several appearances, you'll notice that he looks very basic. Like, there's nothing distinct about him at all, and he has on some pretty basic clothes... Which made me think that he is (one of) the base model(s) for what WE will be able to customize at the very beginning of the game...

As long as it's well done, I'm all for it. None of that half-assed Saint's Row 3-style customization.

As far as customization goes, they should have it to the extent of Saints Row the Third (Bash me all you want, it's the truth!)

Why? Saints Row has always allowed the player to customize almost anything. The clothing not only has a good selection, but you canchange the colors of the clothing RIGHT IN THE STORE! Not only that, YOU are able to choose the colors, not the wear predetermined models that R* gives out!

Don't get me started on vehicles. Rims, Bumpers, Tops, Paint? Sounds like my kind of customization right there. GTA had 0 customization options as far as vehicles (oh wow, different paint). R* really needs to make a huge overhaul of vehicle customization or just bring back SA's for god sakes!

I love the customisation in any games, it really adds to the game

but RDR didnt really have that extensive customisation

I remember reading somwhere that dan houser wont put character customisation and make clothing customisation smaller because he thinks it will detract from the story and characters.

I hope this is not the direction R* is going in

but would not be surprised if it was

Actually, Saints Row The Third's customization (at least in terms of clothing) is severely scaled back from SR2. in 2 you could mix and match undershirts, overshirts, jackets, pants, socks, etc, etc. In SRTT it's all generalized into "Upper Body" and "Lower Body" with a bunch of preset outfits. The car modding is much better, though, as is the overall upgrade system.

Still, more indepth options in terms of clothing options, tattoos, hair, cars, etc in GTA V would be great, but I wouldn't have it go to the 'build your own character' levels of other games.

I agree. Saints Row the Third's customization was a shell of its former self. SR2's level of customization would be enough for me. The only thing they should leave out is being able to change the protag's gender/race.

So GTA V has it's own sub forum and you want to put every single idea for the game in one thread? Lol I guess that's why you're not a mod. turn.gif

Actually it was about the same for me which wasn't very long. SA isn't as great or godly as it's made out to be after its story IMO.

Anyway I'd rather it be like SA's where we can buy clothes etc. I don't want it to be like SR's where we build a character from scratch. I don't mind changing hair styles, tattoos etc, but I don't want to be forced to make a generic, boring and uninteresting douchebag.

1st: Are u kidding me? There was sooooo much to do after the story mode. Not so much with GTA IV but still.....

2nd: Make your character awesome if you dont want him to be a douchebag.

1) Not kidding at all. I'm sick of people batting over all the wonderful things there's to do after SA's story when it's everything you can do a million times before.

2) What I meant about this is the character's personality more than anything. Usually they have shallow and uninteresting personalities when it's a created one. I'd rather R* make their own and we can customize him to our liking.

You don't get it, when you can create your own character, they no longer really have character, it is very difficult to explain.

When we are given a character, thought of by professionals and made to act the way that they want them to act, its better for us.

Imagine if the movie you were watching you could just edit everything, the movie would probably turn out sh*t in the end, the developers can't build a decent story and character if we can just go change it all, TBH saints row story is a bit sub-par, its fun, but not really anything other than that, it lacks meaning and point.

So like others i want to be able to customize hair, tattoos and clothing, but not the other gimmicky crap, and i want the customization to be good, so you have many clothes to choose from, and clothes choosing is smooth, and clothes look good, i hate to again rag on a great game, but for me, the saints row clothing, whilst extensive most of the clothes were pretty boring.

I wasn't intending to rag on Saints Row, i do enjoy the games, but there are some flaws like any game.

I agree with you in this. After I completed San Andreas, I spent my time Customizing Vehicles by modding and spent my most of the time trying all types of customizations. It was like never ending. But in GTA IV, I felt like a lack of interest and packed up the game into the DVD Bow and used it for MP. Customizing makes San Andreas, the best GTA Game ever. And I will he highly dissappointed if I don't get those things in GTA V.

I'm currently going through SA (I'm at the LV part) and I have to say its quite boring. The only reason I'm going to finish it so I can do Gang Wars, which are about the best thing ever. I loved it in TLAD as well, so this is something I do want.

This is true lol. I remember in the original Saint's Row your person has zero dialogue, except for one line where he says something like "don't get aids" in one mission. biggrin.gif

I kinda liked the way they handled the protagonist in SR2. they were fully voiced and I believe some parts would change depending on your gender and a few other options. I wouldn't call it bland. A lot of parts in the game still found ways to make the story feel personal to your crafted character, it just does so in a different style than GTA. Not really a bad thing. But GTA would have to backtrack to the GTA III/Vice City style of storytelling to have it work. No extensive character backstory, or immediate relatives.

There's so much potential in being able to customize houses, imagine if you could buy expensive but interactive furniture like in fallout 3. Like maybe you save up for a workbench that costs like 500,000 but it lets you do awesome sh*t like mod weapons and build new weapons and stuff.

Yeah now that I reread that post, they need to have something like that!! Workbenches could be used to make weapons, explosives, healing concoctions and etc.. All kinds of stuff.
