bscutajar
Rockstar and others commenting on the original GTA San An design you're referring to as 'skills' called the same thing RPG in terms of how it related to other games, though it's not an RPG per-se, various items had a learning curve; biking, flying, shooting, driving, as we all know. You want flying, boating and driving schools to return?? Not gonna happen! Bank on that! haha Why do say that? What's wrong with having those schools returning? In GTA V there are planes, so the character must be able to fly them; but it wouldn't make sense that a guy who probably has never flown planes before would instantly get the skills necessary. I think having some sort of flying school or its equivalent would make sense to be in the game. This is the one thing I hate about the IV era protagonists: Niko was in the Army - learned to fly and boat? Johnny never was in the army - not may helicopters to fly Luis was in the army - learned to fly helicopters and I guess boats too? What I'm trying to point out is that, unfortuantely, R* may or may not go back to schools and will instead continue this stupid method of just giving a crappy backstory as an excuse for the player being able to handle any and almost every vehicle, water and aircraft in the game. Where is the creativity? I completely agree with what you said.
TrialzGTAS
Mini mods just like to see there own post. OT: It will add LOTS of game hours to the game as it already has a 30+ hour story hopefully. I really miss dual weilding shotguns!!
Algonquin Assassin
This is the one thing I hate about the IV era protagonists: Niko was in the Army - learned to fly and boat? Where is the creativity? So what about Claude, Tommy, Toni and Vic? Out of those 4 Vic is the only one that may have had experience flying or whatever due to being in the military. Claude, Tommy and Toni however are un-accounted for. If you hate the GTA IV protagonists for that reason I'm assuming you hate Claude, Tommy and Toni aswell? Sorry, but I think schools are a waste of time. I hated having to complete a school in each respective discipline as I already knew how to drive a car, ride a bike, fly a plane and drive a boat. I mean it was a bit stupid when you think about it since CJ could apparently jump into a tank and drive it like he had been driving one for 20 years, but had no idea about the basics of driving a car. How about the jetpack? I'm not really sure I agree it was fun. I thought it was a chore in SA as it was so tedious. It was also pretty sh*t of R* how they managed to stop some story progression if you didn't have the required skill level. The GTA IV era may have used backstories, but at least we weren't forced to swim in the water to build up lung capacity to a certain level to progress or be forced to complete a flying school. Mostarda42
I hope we got realistic steak skills, like eating faster and better using a toothpick.
AceRay
Niko was in the Army - learned to fly and boat?Johnny never was in the army - not may helicopters to fly Luis was in the army - learned to fly helicopters and I guess boats too? Just FYI, Niko DID fly helicopters in the war and Luis WASN'T in the army. Luis took a Higgins Helitours class that Tony paid for. It is explained. And Johnny never had to fly a helicopter in TLAD, so it wasn't necessarily relevant. I don't get what's your problem with it.
bluesboyjr
However I don't get what you mean with "reward-based system". About the muscle stat in San Andreas, in my opinion it's fine the way it is. For some reason, I very rarely have to eat in order to maintain the muscle level. If the player had to eat frequently, then I understand how it could get annoying, but I played San Andreas for an extremely long time, and I only had to eat a couple of times, so personally, it wasn't a big deal. Basically, I meant it should run on a simple "do more work, get better stamina/accuracy/whatever" mechanism - you should never be forced to keep the level where it is. Why should you have to go back to the gym to keep it up? The gym minigame in SA was a completely funless experience - just keep pressing the same button over and over, oh boy what excitement - at least the bowling in IV required some form of thought to do. Besides, if you never noticed it going down, then what was the point of it going down?

Yeah, well, thats still being taught. There was probably some dude showing you how it would work and keep an eye on you. CJ would jump into a tank and drive it immediately.
