Algonquin Assassin
I prefer my PS3 for media and my 360 for gaming. If he wants the PS3 that's what he should get. Really you can't go wrong with either.
DP Man
When is his birthday? Oh and how old is he? does he own any consoles now? if so what games does he like? He is 10, but he plays the games I play. Imagine. I would use it aswell, don't worry. He likes car games, sandbox games (gta, etc), war games (cod, red orchestra, etc) Does the Wii have nice games? The Wii has good games but not a lot. The games he likes are basically non-existent on the Wii. Go with the PS3
Slamman
You could wait till E3 or the CES passes earlier this year, since some expect the PS4 or Xbox Loop announcement then As for PS3, I've got three in all since they came out, 60GB x2 and 40GB x1 The first one refused to play GTA 4 after awhile, the other 60GB turned out to have a dead mobo, other components worked outside of the BD drive, where the 40GB for me worked except for the BD drive, same problem with both. No disc recognition, so make sure you get one past 2007 model year, basically, it's a better bet I'm debating my Christmas money spent on a BD replacement or getting a game off PSN, or getting a disc based game, so it's really a hard question, since I could also amp up my PC instead! My point is buy used to save money, but be aware, like a used car, you might have to further pay in upkeep, I'm seeing a replacement FULL BluRay to work in my PS3 chassis on eBay is about $50 USD. In other areas, that all changes, but I can say, used, as a whole, the PS3 starts now at $220 on up Edited January 3, 2012 by Slamman

mr quick
It's not because of your internet. The last time I had a system update for my Xbox, it took, like 15 minutes in general, and it took about 2 hours for my PS3 system update to download, let alone install, both connected to the same network. That must be your internet. What is your down speed? 16.14 mb/s, but I'm tellin' ya, it's the same for my 360, PS3 and computer and I've never done anything half as fast with my PS3 that I've done with my 360, if that makes sense. Whether it be a system update, a game update or whatever, the 360's always twice as fast. whoa you're right! I have a 22-35 mbps down (it's a moody router indeed) and I get below 10 on ps3
coin-god
We finaly bought it. With a copy of Uncharted 2, great game. My only problem is that it disconects itself from the internet a few times. And I even updated the console. "the ps3 has disconnected from the media server". Anyone knows why could it be? I don't think it means much, it happens to me when i am on weaker internet and everything runs as usual. Going God please please get uncharted 1, because the story continues. Anything further can be discussed in the PS3 topic.
