Noire PC, either because they've made it a guideline to do it, and they probably know modders will find a way to decrypt anyway, and/or L.A. Noire isn't originally their game, and Team Bondi's, so maybe they weren't sure if they could do that or not...? I don't know. But in real life they couldn't care less about the non-commercial mods, especially since it boosts up the popularity of the games. They provided no tools, but they never made it difficult, either. LA Noire might be different because it was actually put together by a different studio. There might be other reasons as well, but at any rate, I wouldn't look at it as a trend. GTA V should be no harder to mod than IV. Modding has been around since before GTA III, many people have bought VC, SA and IV when they were new games because they already know the modding possibilities. Yup two types of mods Mods and hacks. Hot coffee was rockstars cock up - they left the files in. I believe they're also present in the ps2 versions, and I've seen ARMAX codes (now likely removed) that eneabled it. I think I tried it too. The mod just reactivated it, a d r* jumped at the chance to blame someone else. I think they see the funny side though as there's a IV achievment/trophy called hot coffe or warm coffee (it's been a while). So, after their cock up and the cost it had to them, they will of course officially oppose modding. Also the comparison to music - though very loose - makes sense. They created the game to their image and now people corrupt that with their mods. I however loved modding. III VC and SA were heavily modded back in the day, and it was brilliant. It added replay value and the SAMP mod was pure genius. As a writer, I know about interpretation - I will write something that some will take one way, others another, likely differing to my ideas. That's what modding is - reinterpretation, but via a different media. Musically were talking about remixes. Mods are remixes. Linkin parks REANIMATION album, is HYBRID THEORY remixed. In gaming terms, modded. Some say it's better, some say it's worse. Some people are against remixes. Had hot coffee not have existed, they may be more relaxed but I think there's a piracy and copyright factor too - few games companies offer full modding support. In 2005, Computer Gaming Magazine covered the mod aspect talking WITH ROCKSTAR's Terry Donovan, as I had mentioned, I unearthed that interview in print. Reverting SA back to an earlier version is only possible via a software DL utility, I got it via a friend who does his own mods. Modding the actual game's .exe would come under warez i assume as it'd mean distributing an illicit executable presumably with a no CD crack which of course this forum and all its members are opposed to. I was lucky to have bought SA in the first few months, and had backed up the original SA.EXE, so modding for me was no problem. My laptop wont run SA properly though so no modding for me past VC The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.
