Yeah, Ill be adding everyone, Im traveling and cant seem to find free wi-fi so please give me a few days. I finally managed to find it and use my laptop so Ill upload everything right now. icon14.gif

EDIT: I have edited the lists. The X360 list has passed 16 players, but sign ups are still allowed Id like to reach 32 players in the tournament by Jan 31st and I think we can do it since there is so much activity in these forums, so please tell your friends about it. Id really like this to be a large event, bringing in more competition.

And as PS3 goes, activity is small as expected, but Id still like to see a few more guys sign up, even if it means a small cup, or maybe a small league for the year. icon14.gif

Hi fgcarva1 --

I like the idea of the event, but it ultimately skews toward FPS-style players. For the tie break, you have the following settings:

Auto-Aim: OFF

Police: OFF

Location: Colony Island

Weapons: Pistols

No Vehicles

This favors players who are strong in First Person Shooters, have FragFX/Turbo controllers, etc. I'd be more interested if the tie breaking round was truly random settings.

Well, I did this to force players into working on pistols, frags, turbos and etc. don't work in pistols settings in GTA IV so there is no need to be worried about those. As for FPS shooters, I am not quite sure if FPS players are stronger with pistols, I have actually never heard of that before to be quite honest. The concept with tie-breaker rounds came from soccer/football's Penalty-Shootout, a basic type of game that players know of, leading to further training in this type of setting. I think random settings would get messy since there is no true way to randomize weapons in IV and if weapon settings were in Rocket Launchers and etc. both parties would dislike it.

Thanks for the feedback though!

I'd respectfully disagree. I think the best players will be the ones who can adapt and alter their strategy whatever the circumstances. If my tie-breaker round happened to be RPG only, I think I could work with that and would expect my opponent would be able to as well. Moreover, I think the potential for a random tie breaker effect would add excitement to the uncertainty as well.

Also, FWIW, I would be happy to write a randomizing script and post it to a web page. Basically, one opponent activates it while entering both their screen names and the result is logged, then locked -- allowing both players to see the result on the page from there on. (I could also write the script that would accept an upload of the "final screen" image too and post that as well for afterward)

Anyway, I realize this is academic, you've already posted the rules and set expectation. But I stand by my point, ultimately there's no ability to keep from biasing a sample while having a biased toward a setting -- it's the first rule of statistics! biggrin.gif

fgcarva1. Are we free to use whether Glock or D.Eagle?

I'd vote for Glock only, as we start off with it...

I wonder why nobody has asked about this matter.

I have read somewhere that turbo works with pistols also. Obviously, the turbo won't make a pistol shoot faster, but the bullets are more accurate without the need of tapping.

Anyway, I guess the ps3 side isn't affected here sigh.gif

The question is, "can you tap as fast as the pistol's fire rate?" and the answer would be "yes". So you can achieve the same level of accuracy with pistols without a turbo. A Frag FX (or something similar), however, actually helps you aim, so they will certainly give an advantage, even with pistols. As far as I know, the only way to cheat in a pistols only match is to either use a mouse controller (e.g. Frag FX) or to mod your console. Since I don't think that the current mods can affect fire rate, accuracy, bullet damage or player speed/health, I don't think mods will be an issue. And I have yet to meet a single Xbox player to use a mouse controller (that I'm aware of, of course).

Unless Mr. Nitty knows something I don't?

El Fuga, on PS3 there's people with rapid fire controllers too, on top of that the amount of Frag FX's is way higher on that console (but the total amount of cheaters is still lower than on Xbox).

In any case, there has to be a certain amount of trust. You can't expect every single participant to prove that they're not cheating. Besides, it's all for fun. Cheating would ruin that and I'm hoping that this community can actually see that.

For these who say that it is impossible to use turbo in helicopters and pistols:

I know that quality is really low, but you can eventually see the turbo. It sucks. I have been practicing at shooting in Gta 4 to beat these motherf*ckers that can't shoot with dualshock, but sometimes it seems to be impossible. I reach the point that I start sweating from pressing extremelly fast the L1 button. Seriously, that button is softer than ever in my control due to pressing it a lot.

However, even doing it I have recoil in any kind of weapon. M4 and SMG seems to have less recoil than its counterparts.

There is surprisingly many using turbos on PS3, at least when you play with the really skilled DM/TDM players. I've played against turbos many times, also in 1v1s and won. It's a pain in the arse thou, but it is possible to beat them. Many of them have sh*t aim anyway, because they're just used to spraying tounge2.gif

It is possible to point out turbos, but sometimes it can be VERY difficult because there are also modded DS3 controllers where you can adjust HOW fast the turbo is. Therefore the turbo can just be a bit faster than the normal shooting speed, which makes it almost impossible to see. I think the best thing to do is just to trust each other smile.gif

Fuga hit the nail on the head, it won't improve the rate of fire, but it does help accuracy as your only holding a button instead of tapping it like a madd fakka biggrin.gif

And What Booze said on the Frag is spot on icon14.gif of course something that give you increased accuracy is going to give you an advantage rampage_ani.gif

Luckily pistols are limited to this only with Turbo's, if you wanted to choose a gun that can actually be fired faster than a turbo with a standard controller, the only option is shotguns or RPG's mercie_blink.gif

Melee and projectiles fall in that catagory too ph34r.gif

Right.

That's the irony -- I know someone with these enhancements with have an edge on me. But with the certainty of the tie breaker settings being that specific, I know they will have a HUGE edge on me. There isn't even a chance that they will be outside their comfort zone.

I don't take any umbrage with the event being considered the best 1v1 tournament for players excelling in FPS-style play for GTA. But to be truly judging all skills of the player in the game of GTA, it would have to have an equal or random change of all settings one could be in.

fgcarva1 -- if you decide to do a future 1 v 1 event with truly random settings, I'll jump in. (And again, I'd be happy to write an web-based open source method for determining the randomness per match that couldn't be disputed)

Mir_us, get on the ground...

LOL!

I'm actually very comfortable on the ground. I got to a level 10 on my other account before staring up mir_us -- which I did primarily to practice heli.

But to illustrate a point, if I held a 1v1 tournament where the tie-breaker round was determined only through a Helicopter Duel, people would rightly complain!

A true test of every skill is to give every skill equal opportunity.
