UPDATE

Hey guys, I managed to mess around with the gta3.set file. I optimized it for Xperia PLAY, but it should work on any other Device, too.

Its features are:

  • Car lights
  • traffic lights
  • blood (was disabled in Germany - I enabled it tounge.gif)
  • fixed screen-resulution
  • fixed positions of infos like health, weapon, ...
Download:

Info: To get onscreen-controls, restore them through game options - Thanks to Jantsu92 for that.

I don't suppose someone's tried to enable these features on Apple A4 devices and knows whether it kills performance?

I'm currently porting a car from L.A. Noire to GTASA. I might try and put them in GTA3, but since I don't have the mobile version, let alone a phone that can handle it, well, you guys might as well test it if it works.

I'm working on the generic.txd again and on the wheel bug. I already know the solution but you need to replace a file in gta3.img, so I'm waiting with the release because I want to try to retexture the cars.

Yes, it works on Apple A4. I applied the .SET to my iPod touch 4G and it works. You need to reset defaults in the control options for proper touch screen layout.

It does take a bit of a framerate hit though. I don't really mind because the look is much better with lights, blood, and real time shadows. Try it and see if you can deal with it, some will mind and some won't.

Oh, the GTA3.SET file goes in the Documents folder of the GTA3 folder under Applications.

Nope, just get white where grass and tarmac are supposed to be. Basically no texture draw-in at all. Sorry man.

Oh, and on the mobile version the file is renamed "generic_PVR.txd".

Bro you shouldn't rename it to generic_pvr.txd

File structure is a little different on the mobile version. "generic.txd" wasn't recognized. Tried it that way first with no change to the game at all.

Hi guys,

Loooong time lurker but I've just take the opportunity to register thanks to gta3 10th.

First a big THANKS to XPlay_ for the modified gta3.set file.

I'm using it on my iPhone 4 ios5 and it works great! There's a bit of slowdown, sometime is excessive, but it's completely playable and looks stunning smile.gif

My question: is possible to enable only certain features in the gta3.set file? I would like to have only traffic lights and car lights/blood to see if we can improve a bit the framerate.

I could provide the original iphone4 gta3.set file althought it seems the same as the posted Xperia play modded version besides the effect obviously.

Many thanks smile.gif

Oh and something else: Does the PC-Version have this gta3.set file, too? If yes, can we change details from high to low or sth like that in the ingame menu? If yes again, could someone provide me the pc gta 3 set-file with the different detail settings? For example 3 files: first file: details high - second file: details normal - third file: details: low.

And please only change details and nothing else biggrin.gif

I think it might be useful to have individual files noting what settings are tweaked in those and what they're set to,

eg:

resolution changes

16bit and 32bit modes

draw distance

trails

and any other settings of course, I would do it but I'm gonna be too busy... sorry about that...

If you want, I can try it. Just upload the file and I'll have a look into it later. The difficult thing is, that there is no documentation about the values and what they do.

Hi, thank you for your response smile.gif

so ive been looking into the file with ultraedit, but the file looks all messed up. My small edits were made comparing the original with yours, chaning hex values etc.

heres the original:

http://www.mediafire.com/?593b72y7aey7ek6

This is untouched, iphone 4 gta3.set file.

This is what i was able to edit:

http://www.mediafire.com/?i4x3833v46vrjzr

Only a few changes, and it added shadows, refracted lights, blood. But lights from cars (front/rear) are missing, but as i said they are refracted correctly.

Afaik theres no documentation on this file, not an how to guide. Also yes pc version does have it.

So do you mind looking into it? Thank you smile.gif

does anyone here know how to develop an app which can enable people to select which settings they wish to enable/disable and manually type in the appropriate resolution for their device then save that as a set file?

if anyone can it might be useful (when the guys have discovered which values do what) to open a set file then replace the appropriate settings without the users losing their controls layout then save the file for the user to place in their GTA3 directory

just an idea to simplify things for the hex noobs like myself...

Thanx mate! smile.gifcookie.gif

Yes I'll look into it.

I'm using HxD for editing.

I still need the files with the different settings from pc version biggrin.gif

And Im going to create a documentation about that file as soon as Im in front of my PC.

Heres the original gta3.set file from pc version.

Its default settings, however if disabled frame limiter from pc menu, and enabled trails, 16:9 and subtitles.

Res is 640*480.

from my initial look into it, theres nothing much to see, at least nothing that we dont know already.

Hope it helps.

The drawing distance is set to sem-low, in fact that helps the framerate quite a bit. The frame limiter off may help the fps as well. your precedent edited version has the drawing distance set to almost full, thats what causes the hiccups i think.

Ive tested it on my iphone and it loads the game perfectly fine, the only thing is that the controls are screwed up on foot. Ive tried to reset the settings, but doesnt help. Its an issue with controls mapping afaik. You cant use your finger to look around as an example, is totally disabled.
