Gta IV Drifting

How to make a car drift in GTA IV:

 

 

I recommend that you use a XBOX 360 Controller for drifting in GTA 4.

 

 

First you'll need a handling editor like this.

Most of the info here is from my own trails and errors and from this guide.

 

(B) Mass - The weight of the car in kilos, manipulating this will make your car heavier or lighter hurr, so if you do, you need to give it more or less Driveforce depending on it's weight. Making this real unrealistically heavy, with the Driveforce to match, can make it more stable when drifting.

 

(C ) Drag Mult - This is how much downforce/drag that will be used on your car. Manipulating this to a higher value tend to make the car more stable in a drift, but remember that this functions in some of the same way as (B) Mass,

so the more Drag you use, the more Driveforce you'll need. Recommended 15 - 40.

 

(D)Percent Submerged - This is the time it takes for a car to be destroyed when submerged in water.

 

(E), (F) and (G) CenterOfMass - These there are the x, y and z axis of the model and where the center of mass is, modifying these from the original may f*ck up the car totally, so be sure to know which axis you are moving around on. Going with stock here is usually best.

 

 

(Tt) DriveBias - This the distribution of the DriveForce between the front and the rear tires. Real men set this to as close to 0.0 as possible. 0 = Rear Wheel Drive

1 = Front Wheel Drive. 0.5 = All Wheel Drive.

Setting this to 0.08 to 0.1 tend to make the car less likely to spin out.

 

(Tg) DriveGears - This is how many gears the car has. Usually 5 works fine with racers, but for drift cars I like to set this to 3 or 4, this tends to make the car more throttle responsive.

 

(Tf) DriveForce - This is basically your horsepower and torque rolled into one delicious speed burrito. The higher your Mass and DragMult is, the higher this needs to be. Setting this very high, like in the 2 to 5 range will give your car massive torque and help you get started on the wheelspin and traction loss you'll need to drift. Just get personal here, heightening this also gives you more tiresmoke. I like to set this real high like me, like in the 5-7 range.

 

(Ti) DriveInertia - This is how fast you accelerate. Always use 1 here, unless you want to make a slow ass car.

 

(Tv) Velocity - This is your top speed, settting this over 280 will not allow you to go faster than 280. This has some effect on the acceleration and torque, but nowt a whole lot, unless you set it ridiculously low. I recommend somewhere between 180 to 300.

 

(Tb) BrakeForce - This is how hard your brakes work. With a DriveForce in the 2-5 range I recommend from 6 all the way to 15.

 

(Tbb) BrakeBias - This is the distrubution of BrakeForce on the front and rear wheels. 1 = front, 0.5 = 50/50 and 0 = rear brakes only.

 

(Thb) HandBrake - This is the force of your handbrake. Set this almost as high as your Brakeforce.

 

(Ts) SteeringLock - This is the max angle of your wheels turn radius. I recommend somewhere between 45 and 60. A value in this range usually makes the car more controllable, if you have this set high and spin out a lot, try to lower it.

 

 

(Wc+) TractionCurveMax - Traction is really not that realistically coded and being a dumbass I can't really explain anything other that the effect these settings have.

This one has t odo with how much traction the car needs to grip in a turn at a given angle at a given speed. Setting this above 1.8 tends to make the car try to grip and then just make you roll over cause the force on the vehicle is too great ffor it not to tip over.

I recommend a value between 1 and 1.2 ish. For a drifter.

 

(Wc-) TractionCurveMin - To me this seems to be the value that governs most of the "overall" traction. The less this is, the less traction you have. I recommend setting this to around 0.8 to 1.15 ish. Play around with this and TractionCurveLateral to get your preferable traction behavior.

 

(Wc-) TractionCurveLateral - This has something to do with the amount of grip that is given in a curve at a given speed. Setting this low, like 4 will make the car

turn easier, but will make you spin out because of your low (Wc-) TractionCurveMin. So I recommend something in the 11 to 16 range. You could also set this low and up the TractionCurveMin to try another approach to getting the car driftable.

 

(Ws+) TractionSpringDeltaMAx - WTF tounge.gif Just let this one be. Setting it super low will make the car shake.

 

(Wbias) TractionBias - This is the distribution of traction between the front and the rear wheels. 0.99 = All traction on front wheels, 0.01 = all traction on rear wheels. I recommend somewhere close to 50/50 traction distribution, leaning a tad to the rear wheels, something like 0.48. which is 52% rear and 48% front. Setting this to 0 or 1.0 will make the wheels disappear.

 

 

Suspension is something I have haven't really gotten around to test a whole lot, but I mean to think that making the suspension stiffer and harder not only made the car more stable to drift, it also eliminated almost all of the wobbliness one can experience with "looser" suspension. Take what I say with a grain of salt, try it out for yourself and the model you are using.

 

(Sf) SuspensionForce - How hard and rigid your suspension is. I recommend somewhere between 2 and 3.

 

(Scd) SuspensionCompDamp - Recommend 1.5 to 1.9

 

(Srd) SuspensionReboundDamp - Recommended to be the same as the one above 1.5 to 1.9. The higher the value, the stiffer the suspension.

 

(Su) This is how far the suspension travels above the axel (z). Recommended: 0.05 - 0.1

 

(Sl) This is how far beneath the axel the suspension travels. Recommended: -0.5

- -0.1

 

(Sr) SuspensionRaise - I set this to 0.0 on all my cars and it works great. this is the cars height above the axel. Play around with this value and center of gravity to find the right traveltime for your suspension. (or just set it to 0 and avoid the hassle).

 

(Sb) SuspensionBias - The distribution of traction on the front and rear struts.

1 = Front struts only, 0.5 = 50/50, 0 = Rear struts only. Recommended: 0.5

 

I like to set all the damage values to 0 so I don't have to be bothered with it.

 

Leave all the Misc values as they are.

 

The (Ms) SeatOffserDist however is the max distance from where the "enter car" animation can take place. So if you have a right hand skyline that you have to enter from the roof, this is the value you can play around with. Try 0.1, 0.2 and see if it works.

Description: This line has massive Driveforce and the breaks to match it. So be sure to use your brakes and feather the throttle when drifting. This line is perfect for gliding down the (S)Akina downhill map.

You'll need a 360 controller for this to work like it was ment to. You also need to be gentle on the throttle, cause she really wants her ass to go sideways.
