GTAknowledge
Given this recent interview with Dan Houser, Dan Houser: GTA V will have a "Very big map": http://www.gta5info.com/apps/blog/show/108...a-very-big-map- and Rockstar's promise for this to be the largest game they have created, just how big do you guys think the map will be? What size limit will consoles have for creating such large detailed maps? What is the minimum size map you guys would consider acceptable? RDR was the biggest map we've seen from Rockstar, however given it's setting, it wasn't a very detailed environment. GTA IV's map was a decent size, but still noticeable smaller than the GTa San Andreas map. My opinion is that the map will need to be at least the size of the San Andreas map, but likely be 1.5x it's land size. Will this be Rockstar's biggest map? djbranston
I'd be happy with any map, I actually don't care about the map, I just want a good story line and to make it fun and addicting
mediocore
There is no way Burnout Paradise is that big... I'd be happy with anything as long as the urban to rural ratio is respectable and it isn't one city and masses of empty space like Just Cause 2 was. Fraizer
Please stop posting the multiple games comparison map (2nd image), its been proven the scale is VERY wrong. Where has that been proven? I want to see it. Edit, nevermind, just looked at the maps again... What about the first image? Is that accurate? I cant seem to find anywhere that says what the actual square mileage of RDR and San Andreas. Edited December 11, 2011 by FRA1Z3R
Niko9401
I think it will be something about 30 square miles Edited December 11, 2011 by Niko9401

J-B
I'll just copy what I posted in that Dan Houser interview thread last night: That map seems way off. I really don't think RDR is 3-4x bigger than SA. I made a map comparison not that long ago using the main trails of RDR and the trails in Red County in SA. The trails are of very similar sizes. Here's the trail comparison: http://oi40.tinypic.com/25jyxd0.jpg and here's the map I ended up with : http://oi43.tinypic.com/5v2n13.jpg I scaled the RDR trails to be a bit smaller than the SA ones to leave room for some error. I in no way claim this to be a factual representation of the actual map sizes. I simply used my own in game observations from each game to scale the maps to each other. iGrandTheftAuto
The San Andreas map was beautiful! Since they are saying GTA V will be bigger than any other map in the GTA series, I'm thinking it will be bigger than San andreas and maybe more beautiful. Zee
More hot air from the bald c*nt Houser. "GTAV is going to be the greatest, super duperest biggest came that ever was!...uhhh sorry no we cant show it to you" They probably only have halfvthe map done at this point, They only released the trailer because it was a day before they had to announce losing earnings to the shareholders. Elric101
That map seems way off. I really don't think RDR is 3-4x bigger than SA. RDR is 27.8 square miles according to the map, that's only 2x bigger than SA.

It looked like you could gly from one side of the map to the other (if a jet was in the game) within 15 seconds. Slamman
Anyone re-using previous GTA graphics to try and convince us/me, I say Get the **** out of town! I ain't buyin' it for an instant! Speaking of the maps, I think San An was bigger then GTA 4 based on the technology out at the time, it was proposed GTA IV's LC would include the catskills and upState NYC, it's been mentioned plenty based on an interview with Houser or Garbut back then Edited December 11, 2011 by Slamman
BTNH
Do you have a credible source concerning the RDR map? It was big but I don't think it was that much bigger than SA.
Cheat
Sometimes I wonder, do you guys have any real idea about the sizes and the scales or do you just stack pictures of the maps together and make conclusions out of that? My realistic guess for the map would be somewhere between IV and RDR - a modern day world requires so much more detail than a western desert that something as enormous as RDR's map would be impossible, but I believe they're going to go even further towards the limits with V, making the map bigger than IV. You shouldn't make such rough conclusions judging by Dan's comment - I mean, of course he's going to call the map big: it most likely is plus it's obviously easy to make morons like half of the people who post in the V section to believe that it's bigger than, say, JC2 or World Of Warcraft by simple marketing speech. Smh, use some common sense, guys.

D-man7
I think it will have the same amount of city space as GTA4 plus the mountains, forests, countryside and beaches will be the same size as GTA4 So altogether it will be twice the size of GTA4 and about the same size as RDR
Stoic Intrusion
I think it will have the same amount of city space as GTA4 plus the mountains, forests, countryside and beaches will be the same size as GTA4 So altogether it will be twice the size of GTA4 and about the same size as RDR yea thats my guess too i mean you can already see from the trailer that Los Santos is not a HUGE HUGE City. And for all the ppl who say they should make a Map as big as JC2...well if you want the world to be detailed and fleshed out as in IV or RDR thats impossible on current gen consoles some ppl really seem to think they just can put in as much they want you have to realize that there are all kinds of limits and difficulties when it comes to loading times and so on.
