_DB_
I'll be getting a new laptop soon, and was wondering how well it will run GTA IV. These are the specs: GFX Card: ATI Radion HD 6990M (Will be upgraded to Crossfire later, with a second card.) CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM (2.00GHz) RAM: 8GB - DDR3 1333MHz Here's the official website, if anyone's curious. Sager NP8180 Please let me know what ingame settings I can expect to use, and what sort of framerates to expect. Thanks!
Exxon
Just about high/very high I guess, especially when looking at that video card. It's the fastest mobile GPU available, why buying a second one? That CPU is also very powerful, just enable Turbo and you'll play IV at ease
scorcher93
You'll be able to play GTA IV on that laptop with ease. It's hard to estimate what kind of performance to expect as different combinations of hardware behave differently but medium to high settings should be expected. Tweak the settings a bit to achieve a solid FPS with optimal settings
Girish
If you plan to Crossfire that with a second video card, I'll have you know that IV does not run well with CF/SLI configuration. You'll end up having to disable CF before playing IV.
Jacko427
That's a beast laptop! I will buy one too next year, a bit different. i7 2670Q 2.2GHz, 16GB RAM and one GTX570M 1,5GB VRAM. And probably 120GB SSD hard disk. But then I won't play Iv on it, but GTAV If that game comes to PC of course.
_DB_
Awesome, thanks guys! Maybe I'll even get iCEnhancer working on it too, with some luck. If you plan to Crossfire that with a second video card, I'll have you know that IV does not run well with CF/SLI configuration. You'll end up having to disable CF before playing IV. I'll keep this in mind. Do you mean that I have to disable it in the control panel profile for the game, or completely disable it before playing? SNAKE DOC
I'm certain you'll be able to use Icehancer and achieve decent performance.

Exxon
Zer0, I sometimes think you estimate IV too heavy. With a tweaked ENB and medium or a bit lower settings, he'll do pretty fine I guess

_DB_
Well I'll most likely try ENB if the performance is good enough in the vanilla game. Somehow I don't think it will make much of a difference though, it only brings the fps down by around 5 or so on this laptop. I'll be using patch 7, if that makes a difference. SNAKE DOC
I'm certain you'll be able to use Icehancer and achieve decent performance. nice throw in of erroneous information Learn to read. You even quoted the post in which he mentioned Icehancer... Edit: @OP ENB that's working on patch 7 for you to try when you get the laptop. radioman
Just curious on how you guys figure it will run at high settings, when the minimum processor speed for a Quad(according to the box the game comes in) is 2.4GHZ and the OP only has 2.0 GHZ and to my knowledge, laptop processors are a little slower than their desktop counterparts?-I have a laptop with a Quad core 2.27GHZ base and up to 2.93GHZw/Turbo Boost and only get an avg. of 30 fps with the settings maxed and the sliders at 25 or less. Another thing I am curious about, is Why are people mentioning a "Very High" settings, when the ONLY settings it lets you choose from are: Low, Medium, or High-I have confirmed that, as when I stroll through the settings, it goes-Low, Medium, High and back to Low...?-This is on Patch 4. Also, 2.0GHZ is below 2.4GHZ, which means the OP'S Processor only meets the minimum requirements for Dual Cores of 1.8GHZ. ? Just curious. _DB_
If you look closer, they recommend a Core 2 Quad. I'll be getting an i7 Quad, which is considerably better. Turbo on my i7 can also exceed the recommended speed. That, combined with the 6990M, is why we assume it will run well. And thanks for the link, cornflakes! His mobile Quad is a different architecture, it is not just about the clock rate. Sandybridge performs much better than the previous Quads so although it is only 2.0 Ghz, it is still a lot faster. I have a 2.0 Ghz 2630qm and the GTX 485M on my laptop and I run GTA IV at 1920 x 1080 with everything high and all sliders at 50%. I get 45+ fps with lows of 35. I can also set all sliders to 100% and still get good performance. The very high setting is also avaliable for some individual areas too. Those settings are determined also by how much Vram your GPU has and my GTX 485M and the 6990M has 2GB. When I play my Realizm IV 6.2 Modded version, performance is better. _DB_
Awesome, and since my graphics card will be a step above yours, I should be able to get very playable performance with great settings! Thanks for the information!
