I'm confused. Is this yet ANOTHER map size wishlist thread or is it a skyrim fan just bragging about his new favorite game?

I think it's safe to say it's a bit of both.

But hey, I've read worse topics. Like that one where that guy asked whether we'd rather play as God or Satan...

It was a valid question, ässhole.

This post sums it up perfectly. Fallout New Vegas is a million times more engaging than gtaIV, yes there are no cars but there is still a LOT more to do, cool caves with hidden powerfull weapons and armor and such, it rewards exploration.

Fallout NV is more engaging than any GTA games, because it's a freaking RPG game. When was GTA ever had a goal to become the biggest game that anyone can possibly ever imagine? SA wasn't even the biggest or the most detailed map any company can make at the time. I can think of the Half Life series feeling bigger (though it's not) and a bit more varied than GTA even though it's a corridor FPS shooter. Why are you specifically criticizing IV at all? Isn't it counterproductive to criticize something that is done over three years ago? You constantly post, endlessly criticizing this specific game, glorifying everything else. You have the ability to choose to ignore all the idiosyncrasies of every other games, except IV, why? What does that achieve, what is your agenda? If you hate this specific game, why do you waste your time constantly telling everyone your hate? Do you think that time can be spent doing something more productive, like not wasting a chunk of your life hating and distressing over a piece of manufactured consumer item that can easily be discarded and ignored? All your ideas are just pure in black and white, never gradating, never changing. That can't be healthy at all.

I personally don't care about the size. I'd be happier if they put tons of effort into the location like awesome environment, detailed, living city and simply put effort into everything rather than just having a huge map. So yeah, I'm one of these who say size doesn't matter.

Well I guess you need to go play Skyrim then cause it has all of that and more... and a huge map.

This isn't the "GO plai skyrimz cos it totaly keeewwll!" thread.

It is discussing map size, skyrims map is from a quick google search, about 14 square miles, San Andreas was around this size, and IV was like 6 square miles.

I expect GTA V to be 10-15 square miles, that's just guessing from the trailer.

I hope bigger, of course. LA is pretty massive so we may be in luck. And I have a feeling it will be much more detailed than Skyrim.

Side note: When GTA V does come out it will be refreshing to play an open world, sandbox game without trekking up and across snowy, mountain, tundras tounge.gif

lol if you compared Skyrim with Just Cause 2 I could understand, and JC2 would stick Skyrim in few islands ... I'm playing Skyrim and I'm loving the game but can't be compared to GTA anytime, the many "cities" are spaces with few houses and same people roaming around that can be full explored, the rest of the map is made of trees, rocks, rivers, lakes, towers, grass, flowers and there are other places to explore like caves and abandoned mines.

But most of it it's just plain terrain, that would be amazing in GTA of course like it was in GTA with those long deserts and variety of places with ice, sun, rivers, beaches, but one kind of game can't be compared to the other for this case.

Algonquin Assassin

I haven't played Skyrim, but bigger isn't always better IMO. For example I found GTA IV's LC to be more interesting than the entire island of Panau in JC2.

A big map is good, but it needs some meat to compliment this.

Skyrim is SMALL!! It just look's big because you have to walk every where! Skyrim is smaller then RDR which is halve the size of GTA SA, And GTA 5 is going to be BIG!!! GTA 5= RDR, LC and SA map combined!!!

If you really are praising skyrim for its 'huge' world it must have been your first elder scrolls game, skyrim really isnt that huge, and when i ran from one side of the map to the other in gta iv it took me 16 minutes, from riften to solitude in skyrim it took me 20. Skyrim isn't really that big smile.gif

It's very difficult to compare, but considering that the map's meant to be larger then IV, RDR and SA all together I'm going to go for larger then Skyrim.

Skyrim = 15sq miles

GTAV (SA+IV+RDR) = 27sq miles approx.

Can't compare them by in-game miles. One Skyrim mile != one SA mile != one IV mile != one RDR2 mile.

I definitely think GTA V will be bigger than Skyrim, though, map-wise. In terms of interiors, I'm not sure, could go either way.

Why is this discussion still going on? Posts jump from december 6, 2011 (not even a month after Skyrim's release) to April 9, 2013. The game released ages ago, and I'm sure that OP and others were just impressed shortly after release. Anyone who still plays this game (I do) probably agrees that the map doesn't feel big anymore, and Bethesda just used some tricks into making it feel big. As stated before, if cars and planes or anything with similar speed (Just give us real dragon mounts!) existed in Tamriel, the map would probably feel about the size of Vice City, for example. V's map is massive compared to it, I guess. I really hope that riding across Skyrim is about the same scale as high speed driving across V.
