Seeing as how conceptually they are completely different games it is kind of hard to compare. Sandbox VS RPG at this point. When it comes to discussing the map my question is how big is too big? Unfortunately I haven't played Skyrim so I don't have a definitive answer for you.

I've played Just Cause 2 and considered it a massive map. Massive....but very repetitive. I think GTA V will be a decent size and have lots to offer. I would much rather have a smaller map with lots of different things to do then a massive one with the same things being repeated.

My 2 cents.

haven't played skyrim yet, so I don't really know how big it is. But from what I have heard it is pretty big, so I guess I'd like GTA V to be the same. If it is even bigger then fine by me

I personally don't care about the size. I'd be happier if they put tons of effort into the location like awesome environment, detailed, living city and simply put effort into everything rather than just having a huge map. So yeah, I'm one of these who say size doesn't matter.

Well I guess you need to go play Skyrim then cause it has all of that and more... and a huge map.

Skyrim is big, and it takes a lot of time to get from one point to another, Rivervood - somewhere.

But I want Los Santos even bigger smile.gif

No it isn't. Look at SA. It was big, but imo not better. GTAIVs map was smaller, details were better, a lot more effort was put into that...much better. SAs map really was just, randomly modelled terrain, śhitty details, poor textures.

GTA IV map and San Andreas are the same size..

All those criticisms sound like product of San Andreas being on the previous generation of consoles. Of course they couldn't do anything as nice as GTA IV.

But personally I liked the SA map better. So much more variety in locations. GTA IV really all felt the same, with a few standout areas like Star Junction. Just the trailer for GTA V shows more variety in locations than GTA IV so it's looking good.

size = area?....then no. GTA IV is maybe the width, but not the height of GTA SA

There's only really so much environmental variety you can get out of NY/NJ, but I thought there was a decent amount character that made each island feel different. V will defiantly probably have a better map based purely on it's source materiel

Skyrim is a very big map but it is all relative. the fastest way to travel in Skyrim is by horse or by running so it takes quite some time to get from one side of the map to the other. but if you were allowed to fly the jet seen in the first trailer(the thought of this makes me laugh) you would literally be across the map in no time at all. for this reason i am thinking that GTA V might be bigger. its fast cars and planes need a bigger map to play in to seem more realistic. while skyrims running and traveling by horse dont need such a big map to seem huge because its much slower travel. now if you included all of the dungeons in skyrim as well as the "outside land" it could be a close call. but time will tell.

With Skyrim there are tons of interiors - caves you could get lost in for days. For all gta's detail it has a lot less interior space. Skyrim also creates an illusion of even greater space by having more meaningful interactions as you travel, stopping you in your tracks, such as bandits, travelling salesmen, NPCs that you already know,, wild amimals, monsters, alchemists shacks...the list goes on and on. What would be a 5 minute jog in GTA could end up being a 2 hour epic in Skyrim.

To me it's all about the "content". GTA needs to put in a lot more than getting chased by the cops and grafitti if it's to better Skyrim.

skyrim is big, but your on foot and horse most of the time so it seems bigger.

if you got a car in there it would feel so big anymore.

As mentioned before comparing the two games is like apples and oranges. They are two completely different games that are trying to accomplish different things.

How big is Saints Row? Because they included a Jet...

Not all that large but SR isn't GTA. Rockstar didn't include planes in IV because they thought the map would be bad for them. That's why people assume V will be larger or at least have more airports.

I played Skyrim and loved it. It was big, but not that big. I thought Elder Scroll 4 map was way bigger.

So SA didn't have lots of content, detail and lots to do? I think the only less detailed place in SA was SF, since that was the last city R worked on and they rushed it.

What idiots here think its going to be bigger Than Skyrim??? Bethesda are way more competent than R*, GTAV is going to be nowhere near Skyrim. Theyre not even doing mutliple cities for crying out loud. Does Skyrim have ONE city? No, because that would be stupid and restrictive. If you think GTAV will be bigger than Skyrim youre setting yourself up for huge dissapointment.

I don't think the Skyrim map would seem so big if it had cars which went 100+ mph.

So bigger....

I think Skyrim was just a little bit bigger then SA.

The f*ck? You do know that Skyrim isn't bigger then Oblivion and that Skyrim is only a tad bigger then SA. I have Skyrim and it is big, but not as big as people make it out to be. Oblivion was bigger then Skyrim, but Oblivion was just copy and paste.

There are no cars in Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV, Skyrim, etc, etc, etc. If cars, planes, boats, trains, etc, etc, etc were added I doubt those maps would be big. The only map I would say that would be big is Oblivion and yet I doubt it would seem big with cars introduced.

Skyrim is only a tad bigger then SA.

I don't think the V map will be restrictive at all. You can go from a densly populated downtown to a mountain. and if it is true that skyrim was a little bigger than SA. I think the V map will be bigger. LC alone looks to be atleast 75% the size of SA.

This post sums it up perfectly. Fallout New Vegas is a million times more engaging than gtaIV, yes there are no cars but there is still a LOT more to do, cool caves with hidden powerfull weapons and armor and such, it rewards exploration.

I woudl say that Stillwater is about the size of broker, dukes and algonquin while Steelport is probably a 2/3rd scale of Libety city. I wouldnt say that SR is a good game to use the planes as a size scale though because they have made a sandbox game and added a large bunch of toys to the sandbox so you have more to play with but that compromizes realism.

I'd say the SR2 version of Stillwater was more like the size of Algonquin and Dukes/Broker(no Bohan) combined , maybe a bit smaller. Steelport felt a little smaller than SR2 Stillwater.

Saints Row 2's Stilwater is about a thousand times more interesting than IVs Liberty City, now granted gta3 had a better atmosphere and world than Saints Row but when compared to IV theres no contest. SR 2 has a million cool little hidden locations that are on the map like a Science Museum, Rec Center, Undergroudn Caverns etc. Even Bully had more cool exploration secrets (pirate island) than IV.
