dukee152
one thing is that strikes me is that gta v shows a lot of construction going on in la meanwhile that is probably one of the worst places to do new building construction so i mean the economy in'st so bad in gta 5 world. So this is why we should not be over thinking economics in video games because it doesn't really make too much sense economically because the creators of gta 5 are just trying to make a good story. and1mastah
is it me but does the ticker say "auto 5 to be released today" and considering the contexts of the still assuming the whole ticker says grand theft auto 5....? anyone else catch that? Your going to have to be sober. What do you mean? Oh, I guess I didn't look at that hard enough. Its fake. Oh wow, I should've read the text and not just look at the image. Well this is embarrassing aha...
JoshGTAfreak
That video of Obama is actually really good. He wasn't speaking out against GTA, he was just saying it reminded him of how video games hold such a large part in "raising our children" (He used that as a metaphor). I specifically agree with him on the part where he said it wasn't just up to the government to improve education. I think Obama cops it pretty rough. America simply expect too much from him. Fixing the economy isn't something that can happen overnight. It has to happen over years. It also seems like the main thing that stops him is the congress. It's kinda sad tat I know a lot about American politics while being an Australian

Magic_Al
At this point the publicity only helps GTA. In the U.S. politicians can't do anything but grandstand because every attempt to pass a law restricting video games has been struck down by courts on First Amendment grounds. In the U.S., if it's not extreme gross-out porn, it's probably legal. Nothing that's been in a GTA game has any chance of being banned in the U.S. There is, however, effective economic censorship because content that crosses the line to an AO rating would run afoul of major retailer's policies of not carrying AO games. See: Manhunt 2. However, even AO games are legal. The ratings in the U.S. are run by industry, not government.

20cent
Really, this sh*t about Conservatives again? Obama, the f*cking Liberal, even spoke out against GTA IV. It's just a whole bunch of old bastards that are unable to accept new forms of entertainment (not saying that about all of you "old" folks). Either way, there will always be a group of people that will think GTA makes kids kill people and destroy property. All politicians are pieces of sh!t....we (American citizens) vote them into office and they (politicians) choose to do what they want to do instead of do what the people want them to do. Especially that cock bag...like all other politicians (republican, democrat, independent, etc.) he's hypocritical... if he ran into some kid that liked Grand Theft Auto, he would relate to how it's a fun game if he knew it would get him a vote...all of em do it. Now that I have had my rant I quoted this because I completely agree with you on the form of entertainment. More and more video games are reaching out for that cinematic experience. The majority of video games are starting to have deeper story driven plots. I wish I could remember where I read an article about video games competing with Hollywood and people actually staying home to play video games instead of going to the movies and spending $4 on a beverage and $3.50 on a medium size bag of popcorn (all excluding the $10 movie ticket). With the way video game's are dishing out these fun experiences and allow the consumer (or gamer in a lament term) get the person involved in a movie. The game just so happens to make them a star (if you will). Jack Thompson and the rest of Capitol Hill (including douche snozzle in the video) just find something to bitch about and to gather votes. With the way things have been goin here in America, I don't see why I should even pay attention to them anymore.

Just look at some of the movies out there. Why can't they understand that gaming is a form of entertainment? Socialism? Just wow. All he said was that kids should be more focused on their future and studies than a game not intended for them, a reasonable argument really... J-B
Why do people continue to watch heavily partisan news outlets like Fox and MSNBC ? Alastair Smyth
"Produced in Scotland, a socialist state." I'd advise them to first learn where Scotland is on the world map, before going into their "You're a communist because I say so" rants again. Wait- world map? Such thing exists? That must be another communist ploy. Because Wikipedia told Fox that Scotland is socialist and that equals communist and that is soooo Un-American, hoo hoo. If Fox says so, then it will spoil the children. Because what worse could happen to your children than a game produced by, not only f*cking European foreigners, but also communists? I mean, The Ballad of Gay Tony is the reason why millions of teenagers turned gay. Yes, turned gay! Because Fox says Northern Americans can't be gay. Listen to the blonde haired blue eyed anorexic housewife news reporters on Fox. They know what's best for the USA. /sarcasm I'm very glad R* have the ingame counterpart - Weazel News. Capricornus
LMFAO, I love this in the OP: "President Obama reportedly given first copy of game." That is ace. As for the topic at hand, I do see them trying to play the whole "GTA is violent" song again. It hasn't really worked for years, and I fail tos ee why they keep on trying it. I say it again and again, I was only 7 years old when I first played GTA 1 on the PS, and I was exposed to the cursing, killing ect. Never did it in actuality lol, and never thought of doing it. Hell, I love MGS, yet you will not see me and my geeky friend teaming up and doing this and that. Edited December 4, 2011 by Capricornus

The Aztek
In the lead up to Grand Theft Auto 5 being released, I can imagine the news media rehashing their 'violent video games are bad' themes and interviews with Jack Thompson and men of his ilk. With GTA V, there's another thing I can imagine a particular news channel whining about - the representation of division between the rich and poor in LA today. Here's a mock up: Do you think there are any particular new aspects of GTA V that could be focused on by the media more than the typical 'violent video games cause violence' this time around? I facepalmed when I saw that picture. Then I saw it was from Fox, and facepalmed again.
Slamman
Rockstar love it when its in the media, its hypes the game up and normally the media just make clowns of themselves. Rockstar actually (honestly) Love America, that's why they moved here, Houser became a US Citizen, and placed the game series in America, but they satirize it with gloves off, that doesn't mean they aren't bewildered by the critics. Who wouldn't really?? When you think of all the bile over one video game, Rockstar insist is no more "edgy" then current film or TV
vertical limit
Bochman or however you spell her name, she is f*cking stupid. Don't blame crimes on games. They are intended for people over the age of 18 If a game was bought to a person under the age of 18, and if they become influenced and commit crimes. Who is to blame? No doubt it is the person who bought it in the first place. And one more thing. These people are c*nts.
