mubd
In the lead up to Grand Theft Auto 5 being released, I can imagine the news media rehashing their 'violent video games are bad' themes and interviews with Jack Thompson and men of his ilk. With GTA V, there's another thing I can imagine a particular news channel whining about - the representation of division between the rich and poor in LA today. Here's a mock up: Do you think there are any particular new aspects of GTA V that could be focused on by the media more than the typical 'violent video games cause violence' this time around? Slamman
I expect the same uptight Media watchdogs in California especially, to get RATHER upset that GTA is taking place in the West Coast and giving tourism a bad name! haha Something akin to that
ziggymank
Ahaha, nice mock up. All of that controversy is part of the hype. Can't wait for the real anti-GTA V news stories
Jeeebuuus
When IV was to be released I honestly thought they were going to play the terrorism aspect. They didn't. What they will probably do with V is concentrate on the prostitution and completely leave out anything relevant.

CryptReaperDorian
Really, this sh*t about Conservatives again? Obama, the f*cking Liberal, even spoke out against GTA IV. It's just a whole bunch of old bastards that are unable to accept new forms of entertainment (not saying that about all of you "old" folks). Either way, there will always be a group of people that will think GTA makes kids kill people and destroy property.
Death2Drugs
Lulz. Can't wait to see tabloids, "family values" groups and politicians to get their hands on the game. But in the end, they decide to forget it and R* devs get a pay day.
Slamman
Won't have to worry about Jack Thompson. I believe as far as what the media will expect, and what they'll get with GTA V... More of the same.

Great can't wait, it's great marketing. All the little kids will be begging mommy and daddy for it. All this media crap does is make an even better name for the game. People are talking about it wether they love or hate it and it get's into everyones minds. People will buy it just to complain about how violent it is. Jeeebuuus
Without getting too deep because yes it can go deep, the 4 P's are always going to go to something easy to attack to further their career. GTA, Marlyn Manson, Eminem, whatever, will play as their whipping boy. You know better. You are the God of your world. Period.
Slamman
I'm an old gamer who voted for President Obama, I don't hate the guy, but I have issues with him, everyone has faults, he's not tuned into GTA perhaps, but like the PMRC, it's like that saying, the ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED WITH GOOD INTENTIONS
leik oh em jeez!
Really, this sh*t about Conservatives again? Either way, there will always be a group of people that will think GTA makes kids kill people and destroy property. I actually respect the way he worded it. Like "we need to get kids to interested in education", instead of the normal "we need to force them into it, don't allow them to play video games". His point came across more that he wants kids to want to spend less time with entertainment.
Verdant
We might get something with the media,I'm guessing Rockstar Games only got sued with the hot coffee mod that happens to be in GTA SA as a mod to download. Rockstar games will do everything to get this game released without any complaints. However,it seems highly unlikely for the media to sue Rockstar games about GTA V. When I heard people where talking about the hottest and latest game which happened to be GTA IV back when the game released, they mentioned it being set in New York. Thats when I thought it could be possible that GTA IV could be banned because of the September 11 events which I don't want to talk about here. Anyway,GTA happens to be fine at the moment no sues or complaints directly to Rockstar games...
Jason
Gaming has moved on a lot since the days of SA and IV. Sure, the media and some politicians will moan about it but games like this don't get as much crap as they used to. Though GTA will always get blamed for something just cause of it's reputation. His point came across more that he wants kids to want to spend less time with entertainment. Sure, but he also said that "video games are raising our children". If that's true, then I really haven't seen much progress of the country trying to put the parents back in charge. I believe even Hillary Clinton is against GTA (I could be wrong). My point is that the hatred of violent video games isn't exclusive to a single political party. @Slamman: I probably got carried away with the "old" part, but I still find that video gaming isn't widely accepted as a form of entertainment among the people that didn't really grow up with it. My guess is that you were probably playing video games before I was even born (you are about the same age as my parents).

Slamman
Obama was referencing GTA because it's in the Public Mindset, going back to Vice City, Pre-Jack Thompson. Making GTA 1 and 2 into a 3D game with GTA 3 just brought every Watchdog group out barking and howling to whomever would listen. What angers and upsets Rockstar and others is that these people have no idea what the game is about, they've not played it or spent SERIOUS time working it out from one end to the other. They'd been encouraged to do just that.

Slamman
Here Here! Hilary Clinton raised GTA into question to get elected, so the story goes, the one on Hot Coffee that is, and a representative in Congress in California raised the battle cry, so that's why I was going to make the connection! They want verification of their belief system. If that means throwing GTA under the bus, then so be it.
Slamman
It's fun to hear it get that free publicity, especially when the PRESIDENT of the USA is talking GTA, I'd like him to say "Hey, I played games too, enjoyed them even, BUT, the parents must raise their kids if they want less Government interference. Yeah but I do see what Obama was geting at, he wasn't going against video games, but that parents need to be more proactive in there kid's life, which is true in this day and age. But yeah back to the topic of the impending Media sh*tstorm, I'm sure it'll be the usually moaning over the game being violent etc. but it won't be anything big. They couldn't stop GTA then, they can't stop it now. For this train has no breaks.
