Marlowe.
People are doing it already. They're infected, not zombies. See, that's what I tell people. But the "average gamer" is going to classify this as a 'zombie' game, nontheless. The trailer was a bit disappointing, I was hoping giant ants that had enslaved humanity (that's still a possibility). Anyway, the game still looks great, and Naughty Dog didn't over-dramastise the trailer - like Dead Islans - I have faith they can make this game kick-ass! Forty
Saw the latest video on the site. It looks like they took the guy from Uncharted and made him fight zombies with actress Ellen Page. Looks like a game I will probably never play because it is completely unoriginal. Yay, infected flesh eaters loose in a destroyed urban environment with minimal humans left trying to survive. Yawn. Does look like great graphics, I'll say that.
ryuclan
People are doing it already. They're infected, not zombies. Main Entry: zom·bie Variant(s): also zom·bi \ˈzäm-bē\ Function: noun Etymology: Louisiana Creole or Haitian Creole zonbi, of Bantu origin; akin to Kimbundu nzúmbe ghost Date: circa 1871 1 usually zombi a : the supernatural power that according to voodoo belief may enter into and reanimate a dead body b : a will-less and speechless human in the West Indies capable only of automatic movement who is held to have died and been supernaturally reanimated 2 a : a person held to resemble the so-called walking dead; especially : automaton b : a person markedly strange in appearance or behavior 3 : a mixed drink made of several kinds of rum, liqueur, and fruit juice — zom·bie·like \-bē-ˌlīk\ adjective Its not exactly correct to call them zombies but honestly the way zombies have been told to have been reanimated usually involves some disease so zombie could be used interchangeably with infected to describe them. Not all infected are zombies but when the infection completely robs them of their own will, forces them to do certain things, or turns them into shells of their former selves its not exactly wrong to call them zombies. Anyway I was planning on buying a ps3 anyway so this is definately on my list.
baptiste
Meh, I made a really long and in-depth post about how awesome Dead Island could be if it was an actual survival game. Then the Dead Island actually happened. Not getting my hopes up, this game is now sh*t to me until they release gameplay and I can re-access the situation. And theres no way thats in-game graphics. I'd have to relook to be sure but noway.

They may look like zombies, but they are not in fact zombies. Anyway, considering how long it has been in development, hopefully we get some gameplay soon. That's when it's either pre-order or ignore time.

JOSEPH X
Saying,"They're not Zombies, they're infected!" is a bit like saying they're not Christians, they're Catholics. So I read the write up and the first thing I think of is Enslaved. Turns out that it's the same lead designer - Mark Richard Davies. Guess he's a one trick pony then. http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214528p1.html
Alick
After watching that trailer, I'm even more convinced that Nature is taking the Earth back, the 'zombies' even looked like they were infected with some kind of fungus on their face, maybe the disease that is infecting the human race in the game is natures own defense in eradicating mankind. If it is this, then it's got an almost original premise, rather than the usual science experiment gone wrong, zombies are wiping out humans etc. blah blah. ryuclan
If the "disease" is indeed related to what happens to the ants then I believe that those are parasites. If this is true then actually can't say they're infected either. They're hosts serving a greater purpose lol. It would be cool to see people climbing tall buildings and anything high just to explode into a million spores. And I'm sure that they call ants who have been plagued by those parasites zombies... Slamman
As the BBC doc tells and shows, the insects who are affected don't serve much purpose other then just die as the host grows and becomes very much a PLANT, as far as what it seemed to wreak...no havok other then a threat to the fellow insects hive. It's interesting but not enough is shown in relation to the game, but I'd say in this one it's not going to be just another Zombie attack, it will be one of the more interesting survival suspense games, maybe horror, but I'd say shades of classic Invasion of the Bodysnatchers would be nice, however those previous films, etc. They happened in a scenario where you try and warn people of danger, here it's farther into the future then that
Ash_735
Major artistic inspirations, meanwhile, include the movies No Country For Old Men and The Road, comic The Walking Dead and WWII novel City of Thieves. Oh f*ck, now we're talking. If the movie True Grit can have a strong 14 year-old girl in a lead role, asks Naughty Dog, why not a video game? "We approached this genre because we felt no-one is getting to the heart of it. [The Last of Us] tells you something about the human condition - that's what you want to do as a storyteller." With that in mind, imagine the shockwaves that reverberated around the Naughty Dog office when they saw that Dead Island trailer. "We saw it and we thought, wait a minute, someone else is doing this - it's really moving, there's this family that's been torn apart," says Druckmann. But, as we now know, it bore little relation to the finished article. When the fruits of this labour of love will be shared with gamers, no-one is saying. And, in the wake of the brutal crunch endured by the Uncharted 3 team in order to meet a release date it recklessly announced a year in advance, that should come as no surprise. "We will never do that again, not a year out," sighs co-president Christophe Balestra. Wells agrees: "The minute we saw [the date] on screen we were like, oh god, I really regret that." So, while the game has already been in development for two years, with the team not yet ready even to discuss gameplay let alone show it, don't be surprised if The Last of Us fails to materialise before 2013. It'll be done when it's done, as the saying goes. And here's the Main Theme of the game. I have to say, I have faith in Naughty Dog anyway, but even I thought "ugh, Zombies again" but it sounds like they're going at it from a different side. Don Garcia
^ Well I'm gonna go ahead and give a source for all those quotes. Here, an interesting Eurogamer preview. I like what I'm reading, though I feel like I've read it all before. The emphasis will be on relationship-building with these two main characters, rather than a horror/survival shoot 'em up. Don Garcia
As a graphics whore, I'm happy to see the makers of one of the most realistic-looking franchises today (Uncharted) are behind this new title. Couple that with their intention to make something revolutionary story-telling-wise, set against the backdrop of Post Apacolyptia and f*ck, this sounds like a must own. And those graphics do look amazing.

Freakorama
If I had to warrant a guess it would be little to no babysitting like in Uncharted. You have a companion a lot of the time and they never die in gameplay.

FiliGTAFan
Sounds incredible, but I'm a little put off by the Ellie character. I don't understand why developers keep insisting on putting tag along NPCs in games. I don't remember a single time in the history of games when a gamer has praised a NPC escort mission. I'm the same, I don't really enjoy playing games that have AI allies since they're usually a burden that you have to keep an eye on. But, as long as they're smart and don't get in your way most of the time, they can actually be well executed imo - like their Uncharted series, for instance. Plus, there is some consolation to be found in the article: - Ellie will be very capable and won’t get in your way - “We know if the entire thing is an escort mission you’re gonna hate it. The easy thing for us to do is every time there is combat she just hides somewhere and then she comes out at the end. We gave ourselves the insane challenge of, ‘How do we make her a part of the combat space?’” - Players won’t have to worry on blaming a game over on Ellie as long as they don’t purposely lure enemies to her position or completely ignore when she’s obviously in trouble I, myself, love the Uncharted series so I'm all over this game. I don't remember a single time in the history of games when a gamer has praised a NPC escort mission. What about Max Payne 2? Vinnie Gognitti in that Captain Baseball Boy suit? Other than that splendid example, I hate NPC companions too. I loved HL2 but the episodes were ruined by having Alyx in everything. Its like the devs need someone to show the player cool stuff and explain it in every scene, rather than the player figure it out for themselves. What ever happened to those days?
