The Last of Us is now scheduled to drop on June 14 around the world, delayed from its initial launch date of May 7. Developer Naughty Dog says it needs a few more weeks to polish the game, in a statement on the PlayStation Blog:

 

"As we entered the final phase of development for The Last of Us, we came to realise just how massive Joel and Ellie's journey is. But instead of cutting corners or compromising our vision, we came to the tough decision that the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog's internal high standards.

 

"As a team we pride ourselves on setting a very high quality bar for every aspect of our games - gameplay, story, art, design, technology and more. We want to make sure The Last of Us raises that bar even further - for ourselves, and most importantly, our fans.

 

"The extra wait will be very short and your patience will be rewarded. Update your calendars. You won't even have to change seasons. The Last of Us will be available June 14, 2013. Until then, know that we will be working extremely hard to deliver an experience that matches your high expectations."

June 14 instead of May 7 is an acceptable delay. It shows that they did their planning correctly, just a few weeks off isn't bad. I'm not preordering - I never do - but I'll probably grab it the day it's released. I expect this to be another great game by Naughty Dog.

Put $5 on this today at GameStop when I went to switch my Pre order over to PS3. So maybe I will pay it off when it comes out. It not I will just get my money back. It seems pretty good so I will probably get it

The Last of Us 2 and 3 domains registered by Sony:

Perhaps one of the most anticipated games of the year is The Last of Us, Naughty Dog's upcoming PS3 adventure. Although the story is apparently "self-contained," assuming the game sells gangbusters, it's likely to turn into a franchise.

 

SCEA's private web registrar has registered domain names for lastofus2.com and lastofus3.com, internet sleuth Superannuation points out in a new column on Kotaku.

 

Of course, it doesn't hurt to be prepared, even if these domain names go unused. But given that every game Naughty Dog has developed has turned into a franchise, it seems inevitable that sequels are bound to happen.

 

Game has gone gold:

Naughty Dog's Christophe Balestra has revealed through Instagram that development on The Last Of Us is finished and the final disc has been sent out for duplication.

 

Digital version playable during download:

Naughty Dog has told Game Informer that its upcoming survival horror epic The Last of Us will be released digitally through the PlayStation Store on June 14, the same day that the game releases in stores on Blu-ray disc. There's also something special about this simultaneous release.

 

Naughty Dog's creative director Neil Druckmann and The Last of Us game director Bruce Straley told Game Informer that Sony has worked a little magic so that you won't have much of a delay before playing the digital version. The game will be playable once the download hits 50 percent. Sony has promised that, on PlayStation 4, downloadable games will be almost instantly playable while the download carries on in the background.

Buyers of God of War: Ascension will be able to play an exclusive demo of The Last Of Us at a slightly later date. All you will need is your God Of War: Ascension disc, which includes details on how you can access the demo for free as soon as it is released.

This is a sly move on Sony’s part. Everyone is looking forward to The Last Of Us (everyone!) while God Of War: Ascension, while likely to sell well, probably doesn’t have quite as many fans. Remember when Konami included a demo for Metal Gear Solid 2 with the then-unknown Zone Of The Enders? It sold pretty well as a result, and the same is likely to be true here. Clever Sony, you sly dogs. We just hope a demo for The Rest Of Us (hahahahaha) becomes available at some point as well.

It seems I'm the only one that wanted to play this game knowing little to nothing about the story. I don't even know any character other than (obviously) Joel and Ellie.

This is just the type of game that I can take my time and enjoy the story. This looks like crazy fun. I can really get lost in this type of game. Lots of good games coming out this year.

When you're writing two comics like me, it helps to get as much officially available information as possible.

 

I don't mind watching things if the developer intended us to see them.

Just preordered my copy of the limited edition on Amazon! Also finally got the chance to read the first comic, looking forward to the next one in 2 weeks, can't say I've never been so hyped over an exclusive like this in ... probably ever!
