i hope they improve on the cars, i want to be able to drift pretty good and continuosly around the streets, and the cars felt really sluggish (most of them).

the gear changes were terrible, especially when you take off, it feels like they ride the gears 10seconds too long.

(if you didnt like the motorbike handling in IV, dont even try SR2.)

yes i hated that. in most cars you redlined in first gear for ever. i also hated the traction control. i'd slide out a bit and want to mash on the gas to straighten my self out but i can't because the accelerator wont respond until the wheels catch traction. so annoying

Holy sh*t cars were sluggish in IV, before they were overpowered and handled crazy good, now they turned the tables with iv and it was the opposite end of the spectrum.

Motorbikes drifted heaps in IV, i thought that was weird, and the cornering sucks, motorbikes have great cornering but IV made them worse than cars.

It wasn't a modded version, you can use the assault weapons in 3rd person view as well i.e.by not pressing the aim button. I can't figure how your first person view wasn't helpful as I used to wish that there was a first person view for all weapons. The only prob in fpv was that you weren't able to move while aiming (in VC). SA solved that issue.

But lets get back to topic here. PC gamers need a better control over acceleration and braking for getting optimum handling.

What I didn't like about the first person aiming is that we couldn't move while aiming, so in these situations where you're at a corner, you know there's an enemy behind but you can't move while aiming, so basically you just go in plain sight of the enemy, then you have to aim and shoot, so you have to lose health because the enemy has auto-aim and immediate reflexes. Plus the aiming was dreadful, which is weird because it was okay in GTA III, the M16 was enjoyable to use, but the M4 in Vice City PS2 was awful, slow rate of fire, heavy recoil even when fired semi-auto (and not just the gun going up, it can go any direction).

Overall I think the handling in IV was a great improvement, but then took a drastic turn for the worse in the DLC. It became much simpler and unrealistic, NRG and PCJ are still my favourite bikes because they kept *most* of their attributes.

I hope it's easier to change gear on a bike in GTA V or at least more obvious, so I don't get accused of cheating in Race. Absolutely amazing to see how so many people still don't know how to change gear, 4 years later!

You know your not supposed to accelerate around corners right.

Brake into it accelerate out of it.

If you apply this (true to life) method, you'll be better off.

But lets get back to topic here. PC gamers need a better control over acceleration and braking for getting optimum handling.

If the controls are so bad on pc and optimised for console why not use a 360 wired gamepad or wireless with receiver on pc. Im sure thats what a lot of people did on the pc with GTA IV.

If you do insist on the need to play with keyboard and mouse then perhaps it would help to have the option of a Manual transmission. This way you could have full control of the vehicle engine. Might even work well on consoles, if done right.

The sanchez was great in front and back flips, but the off road handling was total sh*t!

I mean come on, it's a bike that's designed for off road area's, and it always slipped out! turn.gif

I rode bikes in GTA series more than I drove cars. Specially in Multiplayer Mode.

I liked the effort in including the Hayabusa and other superbikes in Lost & Damned.

There was a disappointment though concerning the PCJ 600 and the Vader. The engine noise sounded more like an annoying mosquito not to mention the powerlag. It felt more like riding a 125cc motorbike.

Even the Hayabusa was quite slow, it's supposed to have 1300cc engine. Logically if you accelerated full throttle you'd be lying on your back with the gas tank on your chest. But I guess the game developers had to make it playable to all public and thus nimbling away on realistic physics.

Great bikes that I would like to see would be the KTM Supermoto 990 (fun bike to ride both on-road & off), Harley Davidson VROD (ideal cruising machine and monstrous acceleration).

And where are the police bike chases? It would be good fun to have 2 or 3 tailing you and normally it would be Hell trying to shake them off.

Especially if police are using Hayabusa Police Bikes or Honda ST1300 in the city and BMW F650 in rural areas.

After all it's Grand Theft AUTO. Vehicles are the key factor. I think bikes should get the realism they deserve; Power, acceleration and maneuverability.

The whole changing gear too late thing depends a lot on the way you accelerate. If you press the trigger all the way when you're stopped, the car will slip and stay in first gear for a long time, but if you press it gently and slowly press it all the way, it's gonna be fine. It's the same with bikes. There is a reason why you drive with the triggers in IV instead of buttons, so you can dose acceleration and braking.

well said icon14.gif

What about the PC version?? Here we have either full acceleration or none. That's a pain in the ass. Specially during riding bikes.

Just release and immediately repress accelerate to eliminate this problem. Works every time for me on keyboard and mouse.

True, it shouldn't happen in the first place. I do hope they've fixed this in V.

You know your not supposed to accelerate around corners, right?

Brake into it accelerate out of it.

This. Applies to bikes and cars. Drive the same way as in real life. Brake in a straight line. Accelerate though the corner. Slow in fast out.

Also, remember that the game has a speed related steering angle mechanism to help the player. The faster you go, the smaller the maximum steering angle (this is to avoid cars being uncontrollably twitchy at speed). The slower you go, the tighter the turning circle. So slowing down to the correct speed for any given corner will help you get round it.

Cars and bikes in GTA:IV are not slow if driven correctly.

Also. A handy trick with bikes. The bike is stronger side on than straight on. So there are some useful tricks you can use with the rear brake. If you are running wide in a corner and are approaching a car, or wall or even the kerb, apply a well timed dab of 'handbrake' to bring the back end round so you slide into the obstacle sideways instead of straight on. Not only will you avoid going over the handlebars, but you are more likely to make it round the corner and avoid damage to the bike. This is a useful technique during unique jumps when you have limited run off area on landing; turn the bike sideways mid-flight and land sideways leading with level wheels.

i thought they were really good, i only hated one thing, when your doing a front/back flip the bike would swing up the wrong way around and f*ck everything up.

Let go of the gas as you do the flips and that won't be a problem

the car handling was like driving on ice but if they make it arcade instead of simulation it wud be better Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

The wc- value in handling.dat is way too low for bikes. I replaced the pcj with the hakuchou from tlad, i set top speed as 390, gears as 6, and acceleration as 0.32. But it used to skid severely when i hit full throttle. But later i changed the wc- to 1.90 and it skids a lot less. Due to that, the chances of crashing have decreased a lot too. The bike has a great control and stability now. It really feels great to hit that top speed and hear the sounds of the vehicles that you overtake. Feels like a real hayabusa. I really wish rockstar adjust traction values properly in V.

The only problems i had with bikes was that #1 you could fall off very easily #2 the traction was very poor on some bikes like the PCJ, but i kinda liked it because it added some "danger" into the whole biking.

They later fixed it with TLAD so i guess it'll be alright in V.

The bikes are great, but the bouncing of curbs is slightly annoying. To everyone complaining about bad grip, make sure you brake in a straight line BEFORE starting the turn. The bikes have a good turning radius if the speed is right. Accelerate gently on the corner exit and use maximum acceleration as soon as you are stable. Acceleration can be furher increased by rocking the bike back and forth.

This thread is obviously full of 14 year olds who have never got behind the wheel of a vehicle before.

yeah, because of that I got used to landing jumps with flips in the 1st person, or windshield cam view. hope they fix that so 3rd person view will work correctly.

The bikes handled OK tho', once I got the feel for them. I did NOT like the wheelie control that was introduced on new bikes that came with the DLCs tho'. I really felt like a man when I could manually hold a wheelie for a long ride. The wheelie governor ruined that, IMO.
