Pretty much what I would have written, had I bothered to write it. However, there are far simplier ways of doing it. In many instances the police are none too bright and can be fooled by the old hide around the corner trick. The number of times I have heard a cop say "Where did he go?" or "That guy just vanished!" when all you have to do is conceal yourself and just wait for the police to move away to search for you in another direction and then take advantage of the police's relocation to an adjoining area to make an escape towards a direction NOT occupied by either police officers, patrol cruisers or even the dreaded helicopter.

Although alleyway's are a sure method for throwing off immediate police pursuit, often shooting the crap out of an officer in close pursuit will allow you to slip away, it will also bring about increased interest in shooting you as you have opened fire on an officer, but if you are running from a six star All-Points zone then you have a long way to run, so my all time favorite method for escaping is to have a helicopter to hand, or better still run to get one and then fly back to a safe house. As and when you get the one at Bohan (second safehouse) you can land with some care in the open space behind the building, which will buy you a few seconds. If you have access to the third one at Algonquin, formerly owned by Playboy X you can land on the roof and hop down for a simplier escape. The one (fourth) which is located in East Middle Park has no immediately available space to store a copter, but you can land out front across the road from the apartment. Safehouse number five which is located in Alderney is a different matter, as there is a helipad nearby, but you can land closeby if the heat really is on, but the buildings make it harder to land right next to it for an easy escape.

You will find much of what you have suggested elsewhere on this forum - some of it even appears in my own (shamelessly promoted) newbies guide: Things To Do In Liberty City (before you die).
