Problems with an old protagonist

Even if the guy will be around in his mid fourties, I can hardly imagine how R* would let your protagonist be slow and rigid and everyone else in town (trailer) is vivid and fast.

Also, many characters (mentioned above) are old and still pack a punch ingame.

The guys in the jumpsuits are probably the protagonists or one of them is. They all seem agile and vivid.

An amazing older video game character.

Does he go around getting lap dances and f*cking prostitutes? No and thats why a forty year old protag would be awkward

If his old he would run slow, low jump

Slow? No, that depends on the person. A 40 to 50 year old person who exercises regularly is in much better shape than a 20-year-old guy who never even walks anywhere. He wouldn't even have to be some sort of a physical freak, regular exercise will do. Even if you compare the same guy in his, let's say, twenties and forties, I wouldn't say there's a HUGE difference. In a game, you wouldn't even notice it.

This is not to say we're gonna get a 45-year-old protagonist, just that it wouldn't be a problem due to his physical capabilities.

Personally, I want the old man. Maybe he have around 35... well Tommy Vercetti of Vice City could be around that age, I mean 35 or even 40! (he was in jail for 15 years!) and he rocked beeing as a main character!

(I'm not saying that T.V would be the main character, I believe that IV & V era is another generation with another characters apart from the III era)

And someone of 35 years old is nothing new on a GTA game... Johnny from TLAD had that age on the game

It was a point that older game characters can be interesting. Also the many characters posted above me are great examples. In reality though majority of people that go around getting lap dances and f*cking prostitutes are 40 yr olds.

Personally I think anyone at any age going to prostitutes and getting lap dances is awkward. Why pay for something you can get for free? But I guess that's why it is called a "Videogame".

Kind of a moot point, have you ever seen a prostitution sting on television? 9 times out of 10 the perp is 35+.

Anyway, What I can't grasp to understand is people saying Ned Luke looking awkward on a BMX is a huge deal. As if Johnny looked cool when you put him on a Faggio. All I can say is, if it's that big of a deal to you... You are a moron.

Jonny in TLAD was about 40, and Niko about 30-35. So they were pretty old, however a 50+ character may be a little to old. I for one would think it is a little ridiculous to see a 50 year old man riding a bmx through LA... but stranger things have happened?

As we have heard and seen in the trailer it is most likely that the main charecter will be an 40-50 year old man. I dont mind an older charecter but i am wondering how rockstar will handle it. If his old he would run slow, low jump and also i though the bike will be returning but i cant imagine an old man riding around los santos on a bmx. What do you guys think, do you think rockstar can keep an old protagonist and avoid all those problems? (this also supports the theory of multiple protagonists because you might be able to play as the younger guy aswell who would look better on a bike.

BTW i actually think it would be good to play as great great grandad, i wonder if this guy met john marston lol.

Im only joking i think this guy would make good protagonist. GREAT DISCUSSION EVERYONE SO AS A REWARD I GIVE YOU 5 COOKIES. cookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gificon14.gif

Ezio Auditore was f*cking 50 n he could still run and climb sh*t so it dosent matter how old you are i mean if he is in his 70s then that motherf*cker is old

Johnny was and IS 34 years old in TLAD since the game characters don't age there.

Niko is 30 years old. And Luis Lopez 25 years old. <- all in the LCPD database and Niko's age also in Lovemeet.

well Tommy Vercetti of Vice City could be around that age

Tommy Vercetti is exactly 35 years old in Vice City. <- The official guide proves that.

And about the BMX thing:

1. Just because you can see a bike doesn't mean you can drive it.

2. The people moving in the jumpsuit-silenced-AK 47-scene don't look slow or too old to move so get over it.

You assume the guy we would play will be some senile old fart? dozingoff.gif

I hardly think so.

Cmon guys, the greatest ever character, probably not just in rockstar universe, but in all videogames is John Marston. And he is about30-45 years old. However,he is mature, smart and experienced enough to know about life a lot,to throw them motivational phrases and so on.

He is not the greatest ever...and his exact age is 38 years. Look up his gravestone..

Official General

Look, some of you guys on here don't need to keep posting up images of popular video game main characters that are middle-aged in a major effort to prove to everyone else like me, that a middle-aged, older protagonist can be 'very cool' and 'really badass'. Nor do you need to keep mentioning their names. We are all gamers here (I assume), and I'm pretty sure most of us are familiar with brilliantly-made older video game protags like Solid Snake, Hitman etc. We know that older, middle-aged protagonists are great when they are made very well, we have played games these games ourselves you know. Or at least heard of them. We are ony talking about GTA here, and why this time we wanna see a younger protagonist.

I don't think most of those opposed to it are saying that an older protagonist would be completely rubbish or boring, I think we are just saying that they a prefer a younger protagonist because it will feel a bit more fresher and more with the times of today, and I agree with this too. Niko was a great character, but we have had an older protagonist in him already in GTA IV. I think its about time we had someone younger in their 20s, someone who is just coming of age and ready to take on the challenges about to come his way as he progresses in his criminal/gangster lifestyle. As the storyline goes on, the younger protagonist in his 20s will develop in personality and character, drawn from his experiences and events happening in the game. By the end of the game, he may well even become a new, slightly more mature man. To me, that sounds more exciting than some older, middle-aged guy who has seen it all and done it all, wants to retire in some nice, sunny idyllic place and then his dreams get dashed as he gets into trouble again.

Thats my take on it, and I'm pretty sure there are many out there who feel the same way.

EDIT: I actually would'nt mind a middle-aged, older protagonist in a GTA game, but only in preferred circumstances. For example, a suitable middle-aged protagonist would have to be more of a Mafia-type of guy in a location thats Mafia-orientated, eg. Liberty City. Thats why I was cool with Niko and my favourite GTA character so far is still Tommy Vercetti. But in sunny LA, with lots of nice younger ladies around, and street gangs ? I'd prefer a younger protagonist.

I have no problem with an old protagonist as long as he still ''f*cks bitches and gets money'' give him a fat blunt and his my wet dream lol. I see age as no barrier when it comes to being ''gangsta''
