Problems with an old protagonist

Idt the protagonist will be old/Middle aged. His voice doesn't really sound old/Middle aged to me. I think he will be in his late 20s to early 30s.

How old was Nico, by the way? Just wondering confused.gif

Nikko was in his 30s. Anyway, I like the idea of a middle-aged protagonist. It's something new to GTA.

Ride the god damn bike as the old guy. You're the one playing the game. You can go on completely out of character killing sprees like but you say he won't want to ride a bike. I SAY RIDE THE DAMN BIKES.

lol biggrin.gif calm down btw i think this guy could make a good protagonist.

Why dont people want it to be the Middle Aged guy, I think it would be a way better game if it was the middle aged guy. I mean what would you rather be, someones errand boy who does what he is told like a good little bloke (well when I say good, you know what I meant) or would you prefer somone who doesn't take any sh*t because he has been through all that already and is more likeley going to be higher up in a crime organisation. My favouritest characters have been the older ones because they dont take no sh*t, just look at Tommy, he did his own thing and didnt feck around doing it and he only did missions for people to get the stuff back. Just imadgine what it would be like to be about 10 years older than Tommy, you would pretty much be able to get together your own gang and lead it.

I don't think it will be anything to worry about. If that guy is the protag. then he will be able to do everything the other protags. could do. The reason I like the idea of an older guy as the MC is that the story will have more depth to it as well as a badas* character. I'm thinking along the lines of a Robert DeNiro kind of guy. I think that will work great.

Bro you took the words right out of my mouth. Btw i think the guy leading the robbery is not the same on the balcony

If I remeber right, Tommy was around 40 him self and he did some of the most bad ass stuff

Tommy Vercetti was not 40 years old, he was 35, which is still fairly young, it is not that old.

Huh he allways seemed older to me. Still 40 Isn't that old ethier.

LOL @ everyone getting upset.

like you said, i honestly could care less about playing as the older guy, it would be kind of strange to see him riding a bike but maybe they will bring back gyms or w/e.

And you can keep him thin & healthy.

i went running around a park the other day, there was this older guy, in his late 50's, with grey hair, running without a shirt, was one of the most ripped guys id ever seen, his abs were like a ken doll.

Come on people, getting upset by the characters age? YOU may be getting older and facing the midlife crisis... tounge.gif

Sure, the presence of a bicycle admist 100+ other vehicles in the game completely cancels out who can be the playable character. In the next game they will make the protagonist a nerdy teenaged college student on the sole fact that the Faggio exists in the game. Or maybe R* will drop and rewrite the whole character as a Jamaican reggaeton due to the fact that K-Jah is in the game. You know, since tiny obsolete features have the final say in important things like that. Makes sense.

There were things cut from IV because they didn't suit Niko's character.

The little things do really mean alot.

Your scarcasm is moot.

Is riding a BMX really that important to people & if it is, would it really matter if a 40 year old was riding it?

I don't really see why the character's age means anything at all. He's still going to run, jump, and fight like an Olympic champion, so it doesn't make any difference.

The old man isnt the protagonist. I really don't think so. 1. The voice doesn't really fit in to him. 2. He's too old. You think u can go to the gym and get some tattoos with him?! 3.I'm sure that the black guy is the main char. because we see many action scenes with him and in one scene we see him with tattoos and in another scene without tattoos (on arms).

I think the voice fit the guy on the balcony perfectly. Sounded like an older (40s) experienced mobster and what did the guy on the balcony look like? An older experienced mobster in his 40s!

You will only get features that suit the main character.

So if he is 40-50 yrs, those bicycles probably are just props.

Thats why it matters.

Wait wait wait, are you actually implying that 40-50 year old men/woman don't ride bikes?

Official General

To all the guys asking, " why don't you want a middle-aged protagonist ? "

Look, I just don't want a middle-aged protagonist this time around. I want a younger protagonist who has a a lot to strive for, which is to rise to the top of the criminal underworld, maybe build up his own criminal gang/empire and be very wealthy. It makes more sense for a younger character to play along to that story. A younger protagonist would feel more exciting to me, end of.

A 40 year old on a BMX bike looks silly, 40 year old on a mountain or racing bike doesn't. It's a fine line.

Not really, just saying that if it doesn't suit the character, it won't be in, not just the bikes but all sorts.

A mature middle aged man wouldn't be doing any tricks off ramps really would he?

Sure older people ride bikes to keep fit and healthy, but we don't want bike's without the option of bunnyhopping now do we?

And things were cut from IV because they didn't fit Niko.

By that same logic we won't see dirtbikes either? You have to suspend disbelief with a GTA game or any game for that matter.

But isn't that what R* are trying to combat with the realism side of things.

They want you to feel like you belong there without suspending disbelief.

Yeah sure that worked in III era, but we're way past that now.

Middle aged men are more likely to get dirt bikes and fast super bikes due to mid life crisis'. They'd be fine.

No, I get what your saying, but some things are best left available for entertainment puposes. SA was the best example for that. If this was real life, most things in a GTA game would be left out. Its a matter of what do you allow for realism and what do you provide for excitement. The balance will still be there but they try to side with real. This does not mean no jet fighters, tanks, or bicycles.

Well, I made a pretty large post that somehow got deleted as I entered it.

Long story short, a pedal bike is far more fitting (and safer) for a middle-aged man than a jet ski (which we've seen), a motorcycle (which we've seen), and a fighter jet (which we've also seen, although older pilots are generally more experienced).

None of that matters though. My original post pretty much summed it all up; regardless of the protagonist's age, he's going to run, jump, and fight like an Olympic athlete (every GTA protagonist has done the same).

I know that mid aged men buy jetski's, I know of a few personally.

Look at the pilots that fly in "Red Bull Air Race" there are plenty that are way past mid age.

Same goes for motorbikes, mid aged men buy them frequently.

Ozzy Osborne broke his collar bone on a Quad bike.

A mid aged man would unlikely get on a BMX.

A mountain bike would be fine. But stunting seems far fetched, thats my main concern.

You worry too much. A protag. in a GTA game is able to do anything that previous protags. could do and it won't appear silly. Just because a new generation likes BMXing(which started at least in the 80's) doesn't mean he still cant do it if he kept in shape his whole life.

I know that middle-aged men do all of those things, but like I said in that same post, a pedal bike is far more fitting and somewhat safer than any of those vehicles.

To reiterate on the point I'm trying to drive home,"None of that matters though. My original post pretty much summed it all up; regardless of the protagonist's age, he's going to run, jump, and fight like an Olympic athlete (every GTA protagonist has done the same).."

How can this be the most ambitious GTA ever with a 50 yr old protagonist? Whether you're 21 or 61 the game will be fun, in my opinion.

Look at it this way. If they made Transporter 4 and Jason Statham was doing BMX stunts at 44, you would buy it. It would totally be believable.

OK i'll get off this idea and just picture how fun it's gonna be to throw a 40-50 yr old down a mountain laughing all the way.

Maybe he'll need a hip replacment.
