ikt
Hello I have tried numerous ways to make my mouse move smoother, since at these current sensitivity settings, the cursor skips about 3 pixels every time I move a little, instead of 0 pixels. I have tried changing the USB polling rate, that did not work, then I tried changing the PS/2 mouse polling rate after putting a USB->PS2 adapter in, did not work either. (Both did show a correct 200MHz instead of the default 125MHz) The mouse I have is a Microsoft Mouse Wheel Optical 1.1A USB. DPI = 400. It especially bugs me with shooters since I have to put the sensitivity very low to be able to aim accurately, not my style. I do not camp or snipe. GTA 360
Stop moving your hand in jerky movements. On a more serious note, I'm not the expert.
Stinky12
Just curious, its this the mouse that you have? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16826105099 400DPI is quite low for a mouse, but it shouldn't make it skip. You can try to do is first remove the mouse software and try to adjust the sensitivity within Windows Control panel. Another is your mouse surface, dark solid colors are recommended so it doesn't skip that much. While optical are don't use a ball for movement, you will still need to make sure the lens is clean as dust will affect tracking movement. Also some games have build in mouse settings, you can try those to see if it helps with the particular game your playing. You need to keep the Windows mouse sensitivity at 6 and raise the DPI of your mouse. Or use mouse acceleration. Looks like you may need a new mouse to raise the DPI. I have my G500 on 3200 DPI because I like it sensitivity. But at the same time, it's precise to the pixel without any acceleration/deceleration. Wolf68k
Simplest suggestion would be to try a different mouse. Just barrow one from a friend or family member to see if that fixes the problem. If it does then get a new mouse. If not then it's a software issue. While you're at it try putting your mouse on that other system to see what difference it makes there. Also try moving the mouse to a different port. If you've been using it on the USB, try a different USB port.
Slamman
I get them from the Goodwill, which you know if you know me, but I stick with a few tried and true brands even though they maybe OEM, they just work. Perhaps try MS site for their mouse drivers and reinstall, it can't hurt to remove them and install them again upon reboot
ikt
@ Stinky12 400Hz is default for most mouses. I only use default drivers and I'm now on the PS/2 port. No change at all. @ OverTheBelow I will try that, but I doubt games read mouse values from Windows. @Wolf68k I have tried numerous mouses and I do not like any of them But then again they are all cheap office mouses. I do have one mouse which appears to be pretty okay, but it isn't comfortable. @Slamman OEM products are made to be manifactured as cheap as possible and are suited for office work and basic gaming. Not for doing trickshots Edit: Ah, yes, another mouse is the only solution. Too bad it doesn't fit my hand, but is IS more precise. Slamman
Have you used a Compaq mouse to determine it can't perform?? I tried one of those "laser" mice and it was cheap, but it was also WORSE, I could tell.. One I got here is a Logitech Wheel Mouse, I don't spend a fortune on the stuff. I tried a bulkier MS one and I wasn't swayed. I'd have to be dully impressed that using an uber spendy "gaming" mouse would help the average gamer using a PC or laptop Edited December 2, 2011 by Slamman

I'd have to be dully impressed that using an uber spendy "gaming" mouse would help the average gamer using a PC or laptop It hugely depends on the skill and preference of somebody. I like my sensitivity high and a low DPI mouse doesn't really help being pinpoint accurate, but a higher DPI mouse does help, you're able to look around faster at a lower sensitivity, means precision and speed. I am now currently using something with 800DPI I picked up for around $10. It doesn't fit my hand but I really like how smooth it is now. I might even switch the cases
Slamman
I was hoping an evolution in 'laser mice' would mean more surfaces would allow the mouse to function well, in other words, the transition has been from BALL mice to optical and the "laser" variety. I believe. The Logitech is a trusted brand for all the years they've been around. I'd like some suggestions in the thread that are considered good bargains to looks for...but offer the GAMING edge

I believe. The Logitech is a trusted brand for all the years they've been around. I'd like some suggestions in the thread that are considered good bargains to looks for...but offer the GAMING edge Microsoft SiderWinder X8 uses their BlueTrack so it will work virtually on almost any surface. I was about to grab a Logitech Performance MX due to it's Darkfield Laser which even works on glass (must be at least 4mm thick), but grab a G700 instead because the max DPI on the performance MX was 1000 while the G700 is 5700 and with other great features. However I do know 5700dpi is way too much as some of us won't be able to handle such high settings. Also got myself the Anywhere MX which is the mobile version of the Performance MX. Their DarkField laser isn't some gimmick, it actually does work on all the surface I managed to test from Aluminum to carpet including glass. You can take a look at the Logitech G300 which I see as the cheapest gaming mice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16826104618

The point of my suggestion wasn't to get a new mouse period but simply to see if the mouse itself was at fault or the OS. Now that you know that the mouse is at fault, maybe if you search around you can get another mouse like the one you've been using to replace it.
