I won't be doing anything till next year. I will do a 6 core or 8 core unit. I just hate to leave XP 7 isnt bad just prefer XP maybe a dual boot unit. Thank you all for your help
luceberg
The minimum recommended AMD cpu is a dual core 2.4Ghz, so you are a bit above that. If you turn down all the cpu taxing graphics options and turn up the graphics card using options, then it could play alright. About low 20's fps with decent graphics, I imagine. friendly luggage
Well there's no harm in buying the DVD version of amazon or something for around £10 and trying it. When you uninstall it there's an option to revoke the code so you can install the game again on any computer.

danjodan
I guess you could play it all low at a low resolution, THat should work.Just make sure you turn off shadows, The game actually runs pretty well on any system when you turn down/off the shadows
unc13bud
But his CPU surely isn't you are wrong His CPU is a 4-5 year old dual core so i don't think GHz will help. this is wrong also i have x2 3800+ and it gets above 30fs @ 1024x768 in TLAD
Vercetti Thug
I don't think so, that CPU is too old and slow to play IV. Wrong. My old rig was an Opteron 180 dual core with 8800 GTS and I could play on medium settings over 30 fps. Would drop around 18-20 in busy areas or when it rained though. OP, try it out............it was playable, annoying at times but still playable.
Exxon
Really? Well, if they say so, you could try. But I think it won't be such a pleasant experience. I mean, people, it's an Opteron, not an Athlon

luceberg
I think it is a late Opteron, fairly close in spec to an Athlon. Opteron may even be better. http://developer.amd.com/pages/223200549.aspx
Vercetti Thug
AMD has also released Socket 939 Opterons, reducing the cost of motherboards for low-end servers and workstations. Except for the fact they have 1 MB L2 Cache (versus 512 KB for the Athlon64) the Socket 939 Opterons are identical to the San Diego and Toledo core Athlon 64s, but are run at lower clockspeeds than the cores are capable of, making them more stable. That alone makes 939 dual core Opteron better than the 939 dual core Athlon. Higher L2 Cache, lower voltage, easily overclockable.
