PJ Awesome
Lol ya GTA III's map was SOOO small, but honestly, I never noticed. I just loved that game, Vice City too, I never had an excuse to complain about the map size. Edit - As for San Andreas, I honestly thought they included WAY too much 'dead space' Edited November 30, 2011 by PJ Awesome
GRINCH ASS BITCH
Lol ya GTA III's map was SOOO small, but honestly, I never noticed. Same here. Looking at it now, I can't believe how many road it doesn't have; it seemed like it was massive back in the day lol.
brs320
Haha xD The GTA III Map is probably as big as Bayside. And Vice City is probably around the size of Bohan. Then we have SA... And then there's IV... I heard V will be like, 3 times larger than IV.
-Bruce-
I don't see any size comparsion...so i can't say nothign for sure.
SGT. Johnson
Do you think we'll see a lot more "grid-like" layouts? In other words, more cris-crossing roads? Edited November 30, 2011 by SGT. Johnson
LewisMiller
I can't believe how small GTA VC map is.
Aldin777
As you can see, GTA maps are getting bigger and bigger for each GTA era, and I think that GTA V will be the biggest map from GTA series.

wildstyle91
Can't wait to explore the new map full of country and desert. I expect it to be bigger than V by about 50%.

Edit - As for San Andreas, I honestly thought they included WAY too much 'dead space' The dead space was a breath of fresh air in my opinion. We went from lame general buildings to full forests and deserts. To each their own As for the map sizes, GTA 3 was definitely a revolution, but it's neat to see Rockstar progress so much in 2 years (when VC was released)

RockstarV
In my opinion San Andreas had too much dead space indeed. Such vast empty space was so useless and made you feel so small and insignificant. GTA IV in the other hand lacked that empty space feeling. Too much of the city feels like a jail cell. GTA V should balance between the two to make a more diverse area.
Hydro_PlayboyX
SA is bigger because of its enormous countryside and mountain which is useless i was pissed when i had to trave 5645614984 days to get a mission in SA

TheTrooth
III and IV are VERY similar, just horizontally flipped and bigger if you look closer. It will be interesting to see how Los Santos turns out.

Black Sunshine
Does anybody know exactly how many times bigger V will be than IV? Like, did Rockstar ever comment on that officially?
spaceeinstein
III and IV are VERY similar, just horizontally flipped and bigger if you look closer. I looked closer and they look nothing alike. I could use your argument and say VC and III are very similar, just rotate the city 90 degrees and look closer. What's the point of this topic being in the V forum?
Drake1212
You can't compare the map sizes this way, all you did was posting a picture of the in game map, if you understand what i mean. In order to compare them, you'll need to know exactly how broad the maps are, measured in kilometers or miles, then scale the map up or down. You just can't compare two pictures of maps, since they all have different sizes. Kind of like what they did here: http://static02.mediaite.com/geekosystem/u...Game-Worlds.jpg
MrcTOtheJ
Does anybody know exactly how many times bigger V will be than IV? Like, did Rockstar ever comment on that officially? No, the only thing they said is that it's going to be there biggest map yet...which means bigger than RDR and that was bigger than IV, so odds are its going to be huge. It's so hard to comprehend the sheer size of that. San Andreas felt HUMONGOUS. Red Dead Redemption is easily 2x bigger than San Andreas, and to say that GTA V will be bigger than Red Dead Redemption completely blows my mind. I cannot wait. Wow. Not really that hard to figure why. The OP shows the transition the GTA Maps have made through the years to become a realistic densely packed city. Basically the idea is, how large is V going to look compared to IV this time around.
GRINCH ASS BITCH
quantity isn´t quality True, but we've already done the "quality over quantity" routine with GTA:IV and it was somewhat lacking. I personally enjoy the dead space of San Andreas, some of you are acting like this dead space wasn't also accompanied by a shitload of urban city. If you were to mash together all of the towns and cities from San Andreas into one large city, that would be a relatively large city for a III-era game. The added variation in landscape that came with the wilderness/desert was a breath of fresh air.
brs320
I think technology has come far enough that we can have both quality and quantity, as shown in RDR. I think you can also have both if the developers take their time on a project.
stumbows
san andreas is bigger than IV how do people not see this Maybe in it's over all edge to edge size but there is probably more roads in IV with a lot more detail for that space too. Kind of like what they did here: http://static02.mediaite.com/geekosystem/u...Game-Worlds.jpg You only have to look at that map for 2 seconds to realise there are plenty of things that are disproportionate in those photos like looks at the roads, like their width and terrain detail etc you will find that do not match up like the photo says. I understand you're using this as a reference only to point out that the OP should have done something like that but you can fairly easily work this out for yourself as R* made of all of these maps themselves meaning that would use a similar scale across all of them. Measuring that exact pixels used for particular landmarks that could be cross referenced with other GTA maps we could pretty accurately work it out but I feel that is necessary as using my eye I have a pretty good idea straight off the bat. GRINCH ASS BITCH
Yeah, that comparison's been posted a million times and it's quite obviously full of shit. Just by looking at the relative size of the roads on each map, you get a good idea of just how disproportionate it is.
