GTA IV on Pentium D 805, will it work?

Here are my PC Specs:-

Intel Pentium D @ 2.66 GHz, 2MB Cache L2, 533MHz FSB (Dual Core)

ATI Radeon HD 3450 @ 512MB

2GB DDR2 RAM @667 MHz

Please tell me whether it will work or not?

I don't care whether it runs slow or fast.

On low you will probably get a playable FPS.

Extremely unlikely.

OP, your computer is far beneath the minimum requirements. Both your processor and graphics card are not up to the task of running this game at a smooth framerate, regardless of graphics settings. confused.gif

Actually the Pentium D can play this game not too bad. I have a second PC, a Dell Precision 3800, with a Pentium D 3.4Ghz, a GTX8800, 4Gb ram on Windows 7 64bit. The game plays quite nicely on it. A Pentium D 3.4Ghz is about equivalent to a Core2duo 1.8Ghz.

Even if your point stands, the HD 3450 OP has is still nowhere near as powerful as the 8800 GTX in your rig that "runs nicely". OP would not be able to run the game.

Forget about it.

I used to have a Pentium D 925 (3.0 Ghz) and GTA IV was basically unplayable (even at the lowest settings possible). Sure, the game "worked" at frames ranging from zero to 15. Even the highest framerate I got wasn't enough to enjoy smooth play (It should be around 24-30 fps, at least).

And don't let me get started with the load times....

Your video card is pretty weak as well.

You'll better off with a new PC, trying to play IV with these settings is going to be a frustrating experience.

Yes, that's fair enough. I was just making a general comment rather than offering a solution.

he can go buy a videocard off ebay that will run it fine, especially at low - medium settings

original poster, if your motherboard has a pci-express slot, go get an 8800gtx or gt like was already posted. you could buy a gt 240 or gt 440 off of newegg, but i think currently that the 8800gt/9800gt/gts250/gts450 is best buy if bought used at sub $80P, try for 256mb 1900 gt/hd 3850 (but the game will need serious tweaking)

well, tell ALL OF IT! what videocard were you using?! my quad core took long to load GTA IV because i had it partnered with the onboard video only. you are giving about as much information as a newegg review, ie: "my card blew up while i was playing warcraft" not including the fact that they were playing the game in a room that was 85 degrees ambient in a case with no front air intake

After looking at your replies, I've planned on buying a whole new but affordable pc.

I will buy:

Intel desktop board ddr3 41

1 GB Nvidia ddr3 graphic card

8 gb ddr3 @ 1333 MHz Ram

My uncle is a computer engineer and is giving me an intel pentium processor which is 3.6 ghz, 1066 or 1600 MHz FSB, 4 or 8 mb cache and is dual core

for free. M lucky I am getting a processor for free tounge.gif.

What about gta iv now? Will it work? What fps will I get?

I don't know which Processor,

It has 8 MB Cache, 3.6 GHz, 1600MHz FSB. Not Sure confused.gif (It has Written Pentium on it) It is a heavy processor.

And Graphic Card I am going to buy is HD 4670 1GB DDR3

don't buy that card. it works with gta IV i have HEARD, but if spending $70 or more, can get something better

since you insist on using a dual core CPU for this game, get something like a gts 250 or 450

The closest I can recognise is the Pentium D 960 3.6Ghz. This is about equivalent in power to an Intel Core2duo 2Ghz. It will just about run GTA 4.

Dual Cores aren't so bad for this game. It's not very multicore optimized. Clocks and architecture being equal, a quad doesn't run it any better than a triple core. And the game can't even fully use a triple (although it does help) Basically the game will only use 2.5 cores and on my quad cpu usage never goes above 70% utilization.

Hey don't worry pal.

I have a Pentium D 830 Running at 2.8Ghz

a Nvidia 9600GT Factory OCed

2GB Ram,

and nothing else.

GTA 4 Plays pretty fine at 1080p, and was able to play multiplayer (though had to do some tweaks, and wasn't that stable all times on multiplayer)

I did play even GTA 4 on 3d man. It works and pretty playable at low-mid settings.

You arent going to get anything with 8GB ram on a core 2 duo.

Better upgrade your CPU to the 830 or 840 or 930+ in the 900 series (they should be cheap ), or just buy the graphics card now and see how it performs.

I don't think upgrade to CPU wouldn't do much of an effect.

Buy a nvidia geforce 9600Gt or 9800Gt, 512MB is enough, 1GB will be overkill on these GPUs, but buying 1GB is not bad.

4GB RAM is more than enough, in my opinion 2GB is enough, coz Pentium Class CPUs don't have much capacity to do better with larger RAMs.

Just make sure you get a RAM with either fast cycle rate like 800Mhz or low latency.

I found out a better graphics card for you if you buy it quickly.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814127606

absolutely a steal at 65$ after rebates.

Just buy this graphics card now and a good RAM, and if stuff doesn't work out good, then look for a CPU upgrade.

After you buy the graphics card, this is what you gotta do.

Use commandline to force vsync off and there's a commandline parameter that fixes the frame rate/refresh rate. Set it to 70.

Then when you open the game, go to the settings and change it occassionally to get your desired stuff. It will take a day or two to tweak, but then it will be fine.

that's the beautiful thing about Dells (operating system installs if it detects dell bios). swapped in a e6550. meant to do the e1400 first, but had to figure out how to make the computer boot properly. will get around to it eventually.
