Leve-O
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=84699 A remake of a remake... hmmm Gonna be interesting to see a modern day Scarface. David Ayer is probably the best choice as the director too. Loved Training Day. All I'm wondering is who will replace Tony Montana! Discuss! Iminicus
f*ck that. De Palma's film is sh*t anyway. This is not what we need.

MrcTOtheJ
I usually don't come in the Movie/TV section but when I saw this I had to. Scarface in my opinion, is one of those movies that, should never, ever be remade, so I'm pretty skeptical about this, though it might turn out to be good, as a few remakes have, though I doubt it will beat the original. Forty
I'm tired of Hollywood thinking every classic deserves a remake. Leave some sh*t alone. Next you know they'll try to remake Godfather.
Leve-O
This is actually a remake of a remake. And yes, I agree that Hollywood needs to stop remaking the classics and come up with something original. But for me, when a movie I like is getting redone, I Can't help but to be a little interested. Slamman
Call it Revenge of Scarface Jr., or Son of Scarface, or Scarface 4?? I dunno, the Al Pacino version is certainly not the first one

A title like that makes it a destined straight-to-dvd fail. ...or a porn movie
SIKKS66
This is a remake of the original Scarface, probably going to be closer to that than Pacino's. Bring it on I say.
Fnorg
"Now, producers Martin Bregma and Marc Shmuger (the former of which produced De Palma's version) have hired Ayer to again update the story to present day. The new version will likely steer away from any specific remake elements outside of the basic storyline, though Ayer tells the site that he's been studying both the 1932 and 1983 versions to prepare." Bleh, I'm out. It's already been done, and look how that turned out (it went OK). The original ain't broke, why fix it?
-Bruce-
f*ck that. De Palma's film is sh*t anyway. This is not what we need. You are officially in my hate list now Scarface is an excellent film, it has a perfect storyline wich is fitted in a historically accurate setting. One of Al Pacinos greatest rolls...didn't care for the 30s film, seemed too boring to me. I know now you say, why i don't like film classics, but De Palmas film is also a film classic. I myself wouldn't even dare to mess with the classics...i would like to see this remake of a remake, but im quite sure i wouldn't like it.
Creed Bratton
The original ain't broke, why fix it? If only the world worked like that. But it doesn't. It's always about the money.
Typhus
Why are you people so against this? The name is the only thing that's going to be similar. This is a story archetype going all the way to Macbeth. The rise and fall of a violent man. Do you honestly believe the protagonist will be Tony Montana? That it will be set in Miami? Jesus, think for a second, will you? The story arc is bigger than any one film.
SIKKS66
The original ain't broke, why fix it? If only the world worked like that. But it doesn't. It's always about the money. Of course it is. First you get the money, then you get the power. Once you get the power then you get the accusations that you sh*tting on the memory of a great film. Also, Typhus is right. Fnorg
Why are you people so against this? I'm not against it per se, I just think it's a sh*tty thing to do. Not like I'm gonna watch it.

It's a sh*tty thing to tell a story that has been told and retold hundreds of times in hundreds of different ways? That is a sh*tty thing to do? What the Hell are you talking about? No one owns a story template. The rise and fall arc can be explored in many original ways. f*ck, just look at Breaking Bad. Or do you hate that, too? No. Retelling a story poorly is a sh*tty thing to do. Not the actual idea of remaking movies.

Rucke
The dude that directed Training Day? Well that sounds promising at least. Scarface and Training Day are two of my favorite movies. Keeping my fingers crossed. Edit: @guib You aren't serious right? guib
Edit: @guib You aren't serious right? Ofcourse I am serious, time catches up with everything, also movies... It is the same as games, when you have the option to play the first Call of Duty, or the newest, which one would you first play? It is the same as games, when you have the option to play the first Call of Duty, or the newest, which one would you first play? I would play the newest one first simply because it's new. But we are tallking about a new Scarface here. It's not like an overdone series like CoD.

Tracksuit Hitman
I don't see how a remake will be good for the Scarface name. If the remake doesn't go well, then the name of Scarface is going to 'die' down a little, and people will view the film's history on this re-make. I loved DePalma's Scarface re-make, because it was one of the best movies I've ever seen. DePalma's film is a classic movie nowadays, and the movie's probably up there with the best movies of all time. I'd like to see how it pans out though. I don't see how it will be better than Al-Pacino's role though. aka geobst

I'm just thinking, Los Angeles... the hood, constant struggle ect. Although that sounds like Boyz in the Hood now that I think about it. I only suggested L.A. because Ayer has a track record for making movies there. I wonder what the theme will be now? Prohibition and drugs has been done... what next? Yeah thats fine but theres no f*cking need for it to be called Scarface is there, if its not going to follow the story at all. EDIT: The 1983 version is horribly overrated anyway so this could be better. Though unlike the majority I think this writer is nothing special, Training Day, like Scarface, is overrated. His other previous works include the painfully average SWAT and the terrible Fast and The Furious. Edited November 30, 2011 by DeeperRed

Agreed they don't have to call this modern version Scarface. But the name will sell itself. People will be curious to see it.
