BTW Sledgehammer is doing it by themselves.

Mister Pink
Call of Duty is pretty overrated, along with GTA: San Andreas on a much smaller scale. When I played it when I was younger SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom was underrated. I have to dissagree with you about SA. SA was the cream of success built on III and VC. The progession fit perfectly for it's success. When III came out, it was revoloutionary. It changed gaming forever. It was controversial. It was ballsy. It was fresh. Free-roaming was a new concept to a lot of us. A whole generation fell in love with gaming again and for the first time. VC came out about a year and a half later. III was still so much fun and then we got a new title. Its bright sunny, new features, new characters, weapons weapons and even flying! Then SA came out. Only 2-2 and half years later. Not only did it include everything in the previous 2, 3-D titles, it had not 1, not 2 but 3 cities. We were spoiled! Flying became not just fun but almost an nessescity. There were multiple airports to fly planes to and from. There were more vehicles. There were more diversity in the landscape including desert, countryside and you could even swim underwater. Like the previous titles I could hear famous actors like James Woods, Samuel L. Jackson. I even heard a singer I like, Shaun Ryder (Maccer) who's drug escapades were will known in the media (he's almost single-handedly responsible for introducing Britain to Ecstasy). That's aside from all the features introduced.. Cycling, swimming, gaining weight or muscle, setting fires and spreading them, gambling, stealth takedowns with melee weapons (knife), new weapons, license schools. There was a whole array of fun over 3 cities. You start off as dirt and you rise to the top while defeating your enemies. There was millions of clothes to choose from to keep it fresh, there was car customization to freshen up your fav car. You could even recruit your own homies. You could stand there and give your camera to them to take a photo of you. When you pointed your camera at your homies they'd react with "cheese." You could burgle houses. People commented on how you looked depending on what clothes you were wearing or how much money you have. When you got richer CJ's comments adapted. It was III and Vice in one game plus it's own game and more. It only came out about 3 years after GTA III. We were still only in the honeymoon phase of free-roam and we got this masterpiece. San Andreas and it's reference to films and pop culture of the time was genius. The radio adverts, the clothes, the music. It was genius. It certainly wasn't overrated. It deserved to get all the praise it got. It was larger than life from a company that seemingly did what the f*ck it wanted at the time. No other game is like. Not Saints Row, not Sleeping Dogs, not Just Cause. It's a cultural phenoemon and staple of gaming history. That's just my thoughts on why it's not overrated. Mister Pink
I have to dissagree with you about SA. ...................................................... In which case you would agree with GTA IV being overrated, I hope. Oooh. That's a tricky one. Personally, it's my least favourite GTA. Due it being somewhat a step back from it's previous titles features and map wise and all the usual stuff. It is a technical marvel though. It's really amazing with the detail, the physics and all that jazz but that wasn't enough for me to keep me playing it heavily for a couple of years like I did SA. I know IV had to go that way. Like anything they rebuild from scratch. It's GTA so I'm biased and find calling a GTA overrated. An overrated game(s) for me is the CoD series. I find it painfully unoriginal. Doesn't really push any boundaries. The military theme is tired and offers nothing for me other than run here, kill him (OK, I'm oversimplifiying it) Most people I know that play CoD games aren't very adventerous when it comes to gaming. That's fine. It's just they usually have blockbuster games that offer no story and it's mainly just a multiplayer experience. It was great back in 2004/2005 but only in this period of time (to me). It became way too soon boring to me, even though it had jets, jetpacks, dual wielding, girlfriends, 3 cities, etc. I didn't like the story and ending too much, or better yet, GTA IV was so much better and even stands out nowadays. So saying "San Andreas is the best GTA even today" doesn't count for me. Well, only my opinion. Can't see how San Andreas is better than IV, let alone the best GTA. I beg your pardon. I didn't see the that. Thanks for the reply Well, if you got bored easily that's your thing. Personally, I got more hours out of 3 cities, car modding, property buying, gambling in casinos, betting on horses, setting fires, flying around in a fighter jet fighting other jets, battling the army, completeing the collectibles and actually getting rewards for them such as weapons outside your casino, increased luck to cash out at the casinos etc, driving schools and all that fun stuff. Even just the diversity of playing in the country and then in a city gives such a lonegevity that one mono-city just can't re-create. I mean even seeing a sunrise driving through nice scenery.. I do think SA was more fun in 04 than GTA IV is in 2008. It's the general consensus. I'm not knocking IV. It was stripped back to bare-bones. San Andreas had the whole PS2 era to get to where it was. It was the one of the last major games before current gen came out - as V will be. And people who started on IV and the went back to SA and didn't enjoy it too much will realise that after they have the vast and diverse countryside of a gamer like V, going back to a one-city map is quite hard. It already feels restrictive and taking away flying as well. But the good thing for those people, the first GTA on the 720 most likely wont be a one-city map with no countryside. GTA never was about super graphics or physics, it was about the gameplay. IV was about improved physics (amazing physics) and graphics but lacked on gameplay. There's no denying that. It was bare with little to no rewards. I wanted to go for 100% but why should I? Bragging rights? I'd rather play a fun, rewarding game because it's fun than just to brag that I got 100%. Anyway, I'm not try to change your mind. That's absurd. Just sharing my passionate standpoint. IV is amazing. It's a cut above the rest but the King of GTA is San Andreas. The future King of GTA will be V. I'm confident on that. What will we have then... GTA: San Andreas GTA: IV GTA: V I think V will really shadow IV, and SA didn't have much complaints from the fans because it didn't split the fanbase in two. It just built on top of what was. IV, although it gave us more detail, that was expected. It's the next /current gen, but it stripped back things that provided people with hours of gameplay like flying/gambling/modding cars. you can hate the story or the theme but the features were there for anyone to play in that large playground. Sorry about the long reply. I'm on a two hour phone call in work and bored and desperately wanting to chat GTA. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)

Twang.
The III-era games haven't aged the greatest gameplay-wise (and they didn't have great graphics even for the time so there's that too), but they're still very playable and remain in the conversation when it comes to greatest games ever made. One can prefer Vice City (as I do) or III over SA, but San Andreas so perfectly summed up what everyone wanted when they first stole that Kuruma in GTAIII: complete freedom. III planted that seed, VC watered it, and SA reaped the flower. It's so comprehensive of what they had been working for up to that point, you can't deny it was a lovingly (and, dare I say, masterfully?) crafted game. In that sense, it's the first true GTA. After that, their projects became so much more fleshed out, partly because it gave them rockstar status (no pun), partly because of the massive amounts of revenue it made, and gave both themselves and gamers quite a bit of confidence in their ability as top-tier developers. It allowed them to work on other ambitious projects like Bully, Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3. San Andreas made Rockstar as much as Rockstar made San Andreas. It was their ultimate goal, what drove them to even begin doing what they do. Then, when they finally reached that goal, it paid them back in dividends. To say San Andreas is 'overrated' (which is a term I f*cking abhor) is to say Rockstar should not be as successful as it is today, which, frankly, is complete bullsh*t. While I still play SA from time to time it isn't as fun as I remember. The thing that grinds my gears about GTA IV is people assume fandom is based on graphics/physics alone which isn't true at all. IMO Niko is isn't just a cut above CJ he's a country mile above in personality. CJ never made me interested in him like Niko does and I simply find LC more interesting as a city than SA's. The thing is I know GTA IV has less features, but it doesn't any less of a game. Car modding was the only thing from SA that disappointed me not being in GTA IV. Everything else was expendable that I couldn't care less about. Anyway GTA IV will never be given the appreciation it deserves if it's up against SA in any capacity especially here. Guys like ThePinkFloydSound are hard to come by. He atleast possesses the ability to discuss GTA IV without dragging it through the mud.
AceRay
Max Payne 3 is really underrated, and I genuinely mean that with all my heart. People thought it was just another generic, cover based shooter, when its really an amazing experience with fantastic shooting, probably the best third person shooter this generation. Story wise, it could have been a little better but it was still a really good story. Honestly, people will probably forget this game in a couple of years and will be forever known as "that one game R* made between LA Noire and GTAV." That's not true at all. Saying a game is overrated is not the same as saying you wish the game did badly. To me, SA is a very good game, but it's not as great as its fans suggest. This. @ Sakuya: the medium is irrelevant, let's take music albums for example...there are "artists" who put out music which is completely bullsh*t, yet they sell millions of copies. However, I'm not saying San Andreas is a bad game. It was great, I loved it when it came out and it surely deserves its praise and also the high sales. But looking back on it now, I think it's overrated. There are many things ingame, which don't live up to their potential. 3 cities? The map is actually small. Some time ago I put that game back in my ps2 and stole a car, drove straight to Fierro and LV,...didn't take too long. It has diversity in landscape but after a while, it just bored me. There was less to do and I cannot enjoy the cartoonish story. There are neat little towns, the desert is also nice...but like I said, I can't enjoy it anymore. I'm spoiled with GTA IV's intensity, yes indeed. And it's only my opinion. But SA is not the best GTA to me. I think GTA IV is underrated, many people don't see the depth of the plot and only see what's missing from SA.
Mister Pink
Cheers Miami, my homie. The main thing is we all enjoy GTA. As much as I criticize IV, it's only out of love. I'm glad you understand that. It still played IV for hours more than any other games in my 40+ collection. It still like to pop it in and drive around. It's unlike any other game. When I'm driving around, just watching the way the suspension of the wheel lifts up over a curb but the weight of the car remains is all beautiful. All those details, plus V, is going to make the most exciting GTA we've seen to date. The excitement is killing me! And another beautiful thing (still kind on on topic in a broad way), is that we compare SA to IV. They're both GTA's but both completely different and diverse in their own respects. They share Rockstars vision but are completely different and unique to each other. The fact they we never get two of the same GTA's is a testement to Rockstars vision and forward thinking. So much blood and sweat goes in to their products. *To Rockstar.* @sukuya: Great observations man. RUBBΣR░J♢HNNY (スオッ)
Benjimino234
I think people are getting mistaken and coin the term 'overrated' and 'underated' as a measure for popularity when it surely isn't. It's a measure of its quality, its 'rating' and for something to be overrated is to receive a higher score of quality when it doesn't in reality hold up to it. It's either popular and/or overhyped is what people mean but isn't that the same thing anyway? A lot of people are excited for the next installment of a game essentially. Call of Duty is not overrated, I think it's actually a good game. It's a casual (but with opportunities for hardcore/enthusiast/competitive play) action paced, FPS multiplayer shooter title and it does this role very nicely. It's not trying to be ultra realistic, Battlefield, Medal of Honor, ArmA do this as a design decision for their game - CoD isn't meant to be realistic, it's supposed to be mindless gun toting action. This generation's Quake/Unreal Tornament and such. What I call an overrated game is the first Assassin's Creed. It was a good game with its gameplay concept and features like its parkour but its gameplay got stale and so did the missions, I got bored after the 6th assassination mission. It was good but I don't believe it to be as prestigious as it should be, it still needed tweaking imo (and they did with the sequels and they were great.)
