HbKYolrr
This is similar to TheCacti's Thread in the "Movies and Tv" section, which you can find here. Mine are:- Overerrated Call of Duty Series: I don't think these games live up to the hype and excitement it causes. I don't really have any underrated games but i do think people should respect the Fable series a bit more. So what are your Underrated or Overrated games? NOTE: These are my opinions. Mati
Call of Duty Series: I don't think these games live up to the hype and excitement it cause. NOTE:These are opinions. ...This can't possibly be a serious opinion. MW3 sold 6.5 Million units on the first day after release just in the UK and US. It's currently the most played shooter till date (or one of the most played shooters) I think you meant overrated. (I was right, it was your mistake) Most overrated: Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I bought it, played through it and put it away. It was a nice game, but nothing more. Making us choose our ending by pressing buttons was just silly. Most underrated: Tony Hawks Project 8, Mortyr, Urban Chaos.

tuareg
Too many examples to list, but i'll go with the Halo series for overrated and i'm not sure about underrated games. The Dirt series perhaps?
Twang.
Please. I loathe the term. "Overrated" is the most useless term ever coined. Like, holy sh*t. Anyone who uses the term and thinks it means something is probably smoking crack and/or mentally challenged. I'm exaggerating, of course, but still: stop that. It's not even an insult to the game itself. Actually, it's hardly even an insult. It's just a derogatory statement hurled at someone's concept of popularity. It's like saying "I wish this game had less fans." Why would you wish something like that on anyone? Because you have an unwarranted sense of importance, that's why. Trying to dictate what everyone does and doesn't deserve. It's just foolish to think you know better than everyone who plays a certain game. "Stop liking what I don't like." "Stop enjoying things! Do you realize how ridiculous you look to me?" It's all the same. It's all just some try-hard trying to look cool by bringing everyone else down. Let me ask, how do you propose a game gets, uh...regular-rated? Have a portion of it's fanbase stop playing it What exactly would that accomplish? The popularity of a game should matter to no one other than the developers and the staff/publishers/etc. They'd still make the same game, and you wouldn't like them any more or less than you already did. So let's recap: Calling something overrated is saying it's too popular. Popularity doesn't mean anything at all to you. You're complaining about something that means nothing to you. You might as well say "that shelf would look better a little to the left" and it would hold about as much importance. Yes, if you were having a conversation about games, and someone suggested moving a shelf, that would have more relevance to the conversation than whether or not a certain game is overrated. At least you can put games or something on a shelf; "overrated" just hangs in the air making you look like a tool. Oh? You don't like hearing about a certain game as often as society feels you should based on it's popularity? Deal with it. Everyone is subjected to things they don't like on a daily basis. Many things that are much worse than hearing some people talk about a game you don't like on your lunch break. Underrated, on the other hand, is okay. If you like a band and think more people should check it out, that's cool. That's constructive. Calling something overrated isn't constructive at all. Guns N R0se
I really liked Driver:SF, I agree it was underrated, but Yahtzee (Zero Punctuation guy) gave it a good review which is rare. Underrated: Crash Team Racing. Best game ever.
KilnerLUFC
Underrated: Driver 3, Parallel Lines and SF. Wow, Driv3r under-rated? Giving that game a 1/10 was generous. Floro Solo
Most underrated, 007 Blood Stone. I agree. I loved Blood Stone and it had a really fun campaign. Too bad it couldn't of been longer. Even though the shooting and vehicle sequences were cool, it wasn't that good of a game. It got kind of boring after a while and was painfully short. Jeeebuuus
Overrated: CoD series. They are fun for a little while but are repetitive. Don't deserve that much praise. It's amazing so many people like it but I find that popularity, for the most part, is overrated if that makes sense. (Kinda the definition) Underrated: Mad Maestro for PS2. It was a orchestra game that heavily used the pressure sensitive buttons to make the instruments play well. It was a big challenge.

Rucke
Most underrated: MAFIA II! Seriously, it's a great authentic game with a great narrative and fun gameplay. Reviewers bashed it because it didn't have free-roam. Since when does an open-world game have to include free-roam to be considered a good game? I think it great that a game for once puts a lot of focus on the story, and it wasn't like the gameplay suffered or anything. f*ck IGN and everybody else who gave the game 7.0 or less. Feel bad for 2K.

Feel bad for 2K. Mafia II wasn't bashed for the lack of freedom. It was bashed for providing almost nothing after 7 years, butchered story and general overhyping made by developers. In fact Mafia II was very mediocre game with not so good graphics, and not bad story told in terrible way. Mafia I also didn't have free roaming but it received couple of awards (I think), nice notes and warm welcome. Underrated: Midnight Club series, System Shock, Urban Chaos, Driver series. Chinatown Wars
Underrated: Stuntman series. I have over 10 days logged on the first one and about 3 days logged onto ignition. I will however say that ignition does somewhat fail, but nonetheless if you want a very challenging game, get them.
bluesboyjr
Underrated:Stuntman series. I have over 10 days logged on the first one and about 3 days logged onto ignition. I will however say that ignition does somewhat fail, but nonetheless if you want a very challenging game, get them. Ah, I had the first one. It was a great game, but god was it an unforgiving bitch sometimes... For underrated games (or at least games noone apparantly cares about), I'd go for the Destroy All Humans! franchise, or at least the first two anyway. They were great fun (nothing beats completely levelling an entire city, I can't think of any other games that let you do that), and bloody hilarious too - the funniest writing I've ever seen in a video game, even if the humour feels a little forced somethimes. I had the Wii one as well, but that was, well, a disappointment. It felt uninspired, and the graphics were shoddy, even for a Wii game (the characters' mouths didn't even move half the time!). I haven't played DAH! 3, for fear of it being half as bad as some of the reviews had made it out to be (it's got an average score of about 3/10 on Metacritic), and it's quite saddening that that was probably the nail in the coffin for the franchise. Other games I can think of are Smuggler's Run 2 and The Italian Job (on the PS1, based off of the original film). I can remember those being pretty fun, but it's been years since I've played them, so it might just be the nostalgia talking. I can't think of any games I'd consider to be "overrated". I guess I'm just too optimistic. Edited December 1, 2011 by bluesboyjr
