Flam1ngWolf
I am wondering if GTA actually makes people do horrific things. E.G a massacre. I hate Jack Thompson but I wonder does he actually have a valid point. What do you guys think?
NickA92
If GTA influences you to do something horrific, then there is something messed up with you in the first place. Mr Oraange, Colognenigguh, The Dedito Gae and 5 others
Jeeebuuus
A very small portion of the population are unstable and should not interact with violent media of any kind. This does not mean that media influences behavior really because violent people have always existed. Captain Delitian
cant remember
No doubt people committed crimes after being inspired by GTA. But they would probably have been inspired by other things to do bad things if GTA did not exist. From one side, seeing constant violence (even virtual) normalizes it for young people. On the other hand it's harmless fun for most people, and GTA has an 18+ rating in most places. It's an endless discussion probably.

Ratone
I think Games and Movies influence people only in the "Know-How" aspect of "crime", meaning... It's not the violent Game or Movie that will make someone commit a crime, But, the techniques shown there can influence in the way this or that person will commit it. r0eladn
You can just as easily say that without GTA people would have to satisfy their murdering urges by going on a killing spree in real life.

SGT. Johnson
Dont believe the bullsh*t the media tells you Exactly. GTA was simply a scapegoat for people to blame; this was backed and hyped by the media into making GTA look like the cause. Honestly, if people allow GTA and video games to influence the way they think, they are better off out of the way of society (in jail or dead). My favorite was the trail against Rockstar for the grnadmother who bought her son San Andreas. She was an idiot to begin with! WTF buys an 17 and older, M-Rated game for a 13 year old? Also, does anyone remeber when they blamed Maryln Manson for the s*** that was wrong with society? History repeats itself.
Finn 7 five 11
This should be in GTA Series chat. http://www.gtaforums.com/?showforum=262 - Do you blame a the author when someone is inspired by murders in the book and want to act it out, or kill the real life character the book is based on? (Cough*castle*cough) Its simply a way to cause controversy and get viewers for the media, the game is partly to blame in some way i suppose, but 90% of it is the person who has mental issues. sonnyBlack
I've been playing GTA since I was 10, that was back in 1998. Never once during those years did I get the urge to go out and do my own GTA style massacre on the public. If anything, the game series has helped me deal with stress since the gameplay allows me to take my anger out of the sprites that inhabit these virtual cities. It's essentially the same as punching a wall or a pillow, however without the risk of breaking your hand or ruining a perfectly good pillow. I wish people like Jack Thompson would stop being so quick to point their sh*tty little finger at R* when trying to find a culprit for why some people go on real life rampages. R* is just trying to bring us some entertainment, and they do a great job at it. But it's not their job to parent everyone's kids. If your kid actually gets inspired to do bad things after playing GTA, then it's the parent's responsibility to take action and get them some counseling rather than let a problem like that fester and turn in to a headline one day. The root of the problem isn't R* games, it's at home.

ryan_J
Yeah if you are easily influenced by a game such as GTA then you must have had something already wrong with you in the first place .
PJ Awesome
Only if you are a dumb f*ck....I played GTA III when I was about 10 I think, and I knew right from wrong...you can't blame this sort of things on video games. IMO the fault goes to the child's f*cked up mind, and the parents who bought it.

blowtorchrepair
I dunno, dawg. I'm still planning on blowing the top off of a sky-scraper right after jumping from it while yelling, "yippee cayey mo-fo!" and blaming it on the movie Die Hard. I think I'll get off with that defense. off topic, but on topic for this site, a mission based on the above mentioned movie scene would fit in no better game other than GTA V. MilezDawg
Ive been playing GTA since 1998 when i purchased GTA1 for the PC. Played and owned every GTA since, except GTA Advanced BLAH. I'm a excellent member of society, work 40 - 50 hours a week, educated, pay my taxes etc. GTA hasn't warped my mind or thinking, I'm a good boy and well behaved. S1LV3R_W0LF
GTA no, video games no, movies no... lack of education, social problems, wrecked families, yes. I remember the first article I've read about something like this, when an Asian kid had a shrine to Coudres on his bedroom and killed his parents with a machete after playing Final Fantasy VII, thinking he would "evolve" from that. These people should be followed by medics and stay away of any kind of product like this, but same happens with guns they are dangerous and aren't used for anything good they are just made to shot something but even that way they still exist and some people use them responsibly, so the same should happen with products like this. Ratone
"Inspired By" for me means that you were inspired on the way you executed the act, not the will to execute it. In short. If someday I decide to steal money from a armored truck, I'll probably be inspired by Heat. So, the movie gives me inspiration on the "How", but the desire to commit it comes from me and me only.
