SonofUgly
Alright so couple people have been discussing just a few frames and I think we may have a some decent, tangible, proof that San Fierro or a new Bay Area is in GTA V. This post is from the trailer analysis thread, from FCM: Rockstar wouldn't be accurate to put mist where there's no water. There's no water surrounded by moutains in California: the only exception is the Bay Area. Now look. You clearly see that there's a valley, mountains, and MIST. There's no mist without water. My conclusion: a valley, filled with mist, surrounded by mountains = The Bay Area. There are 3 wind farms in California: Palm Springs (about 100 miles east of Los Angeles), Tehachapi (between San Francisco and Los Angeles - close to Bakersfield) and Altamont, about 20 miles east of The Bay. A wind farm with mist and mountains, to me, there's no doubt: this is the Altamont wind farm and the bay is behind, because there's absolutly no water at Palm Springs wind farm and close to the Tehachapi wind farm. The Altamont Wind Farm is just right next to hills very similar to the ones in the trailer, so they match up. Also behind the wind farm in the trailer there is an object, not exactly sure what it is (left): Single Frame: But it looks like it almost could be the post for the New Bay Bridge. The horizontal beams get less spaced out the higher up it is on both the unknown object and the bridge. the only thing that doesn't match up is the posts on the bridge are inbetween the roads, while the object looks far to wide for it to be the same - unless it was changed so that the posts where put on the outsides of the road. New Bay Bridge: Also, there is a Skimmer (plane that lands and takes off of water) flying in the scene (Thanks ch3vychas3), which would support the idea that there is water close by: So what do you guys think, is that the bridge to the bay area, or something else? Slamman
I don't think we need a separate topic, plotting out the map based on the trailer and the original SA would make a bit more sense then plotting it out based on the real Los Angeles. I point to Midnight Club about why that is a bad idea
Neverent
This is an oxymoron but: Solid speculation
Jeeebuuus
I think it is very possible. The mist, the 3 real world wind farms, a possible bridge tower. This is interesting. Edited November 7, 2011 by Jeeebuuus
jnzooger
I love when people that don't live in California try and act like they know California. That wind farm is quite clearly the Tehachapi ones, which are on the south-eastern (LA) side of the mountains. There is also a very large lake up there, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castaic_Lake in the town of Castaic at the base of the range.

Thankyou OP for making the GIF for those who are blind and shrug this over, it's a very interesting frame... many say it's a radio tower, but I think it doesn't look box-shaped enough or something. It's definitely in the far distance, and the fog, and notice a seaplane flies from the direction of the "bridge". Honestly though, I don't know what to believe anymore. You're right, I don't live in CA and I am taking the idea it's the Altamont wind farm from FCM and pictures. However, I think there are still some pretty good similarities between the wind farm in the trailer and the Altamont wind farm. @ch3vychas3 - That's a good point, hadn't thought about the Skimmer. Jeeebuuus
With the evidence presented and the seaplane I think this argument is at least valid. R* seemed to put subtle hints in their first trailer. I not saying this is absolutly true but can't be ignored.

Inactive
Will this be it? From the looks of it, yes. As someone said, R* did leave some subtle clues for us to find out. I guess we'll have to wait for the next trailer to find it out.

I have lived in both the LA and SF area. Infact, I lived in Castaic, Livermore, and Antioch. I've taken pictures of Mt Diablo (the real Chilliad) from my roof. I currently live just off the I-5 in Stockton, where the I-205 and the CA-4 split off to head to the bay. Really want to question my knowledge of the areas? ch3vychas3
Honestly, that scene in the trailer shows nothing of LA/Los Santos whatsoever. It looks exactly like the Altamont Pass around where I've indicated on the google maps. There's nothing but countryside and mountains, and what looks like a bridge in the direction New Bay bridge should be, and a seaplane flying from the same place where there's plenty of fog, it just seems awfully suspicious. fitbikesbmx
Nice eye but I don't think this is a bridge. At first it looked like a visual glitch but if you zoom in and look closely it appears to be attached to the ground behind one of the turbines. Have a look. jnzooger
Does that place usually have mist. Like someone said you need a water source. Its called a Tule-fog, and yes, all of the central valley areas of California get it. And to quote Wikipedia on the subject... Valley fog forms in mountain valleys, often during winter. It is the result of a temperature inversion caused by heavier cold air settling into a valley, with warmer air passing over the mountains above. It is essentially radiation fog confined by local topography, and can last for several days in calm conditions. In California's Central Valley, valley fog is often referred to as Tule fog. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Played back extremely slowly and that white spot seems to be infront of the large white object, here's the second to last frame it's in: It looks like it's just right of where it is in your picture, so I'm not sold that its a base for the object (still just calling it an object because I'm not 100% sure what it is). jnzooger
Actually, looking a little closer, that looks more like a cell tower...which there is one of at EACH wind farm. It also serves as an aircraft warning light system though.

Dude, it's not real life LA, it's Los Santos... they simply maps in videogames, so the "bridge" object can be closer in the game than it is or should be in real life. Hence how you could have the snowy peaks of the Tall Trees region so close to the deserts of Diez Coronas in Red Dead Redemption. In real life, those areas are 100's of miles apart, but they still have that kind of climate. Edited November 7, 2011 by jnzooger
