If you people remember GTA IV(hard not to), they you will remember how fun it was to land on the top of a tall biulding, and find a way down (without dying).

I know of a sh*t load of Parkour/ free run spots and lines in GTA IV. And i hope none of this will leave us in GTA V, i hope it improves.

What about you? mercie_blink.gif

lol, by the way,,, what we saw in GTA IV (jumping fences, scrambling up things) isnt Parkour....

but i chose the Parkour like GTA IV option.... although they should make it faster and more responsive.... and also they should make it so when a cop points his gun at me i DONT teleport back to the side hes at.

It was sarcasm because there was no Parkour in GTAIV. Jumping fences, walls, etc. does not automatically make it Parkour. There's a lot more to the sport than that. What you saw in GTAIV was not it at all.

I would like it to be better and more responsive than GTA IV. Even though it wasn't actually parkour it was fun. I liked to run on rooftops and try to jump from building to building without falling to my death. ph34r.gif Also, what someone already stated, sometimes when I'm trying to jump and a cop aims his gun at me, I magically slid over next to him. That needs to be fixed.

Sometimes I just want to act like a ninja ph34r.gif and it would be fun to have a more refined system from IV.

Stop being so morbid people. just just because youve never done it yourself in GTA IV, doesnt mean you should start twinning at people that have.

Once again, that's not Parkour. Parkour has a lot more intricate motions and such, than what GTAIV's "Parkour" had. I personally do Parkour, and have for five years, and I can tell you that that's not Parkour at all. Being able to run onto one roof to another doesn't make it Parkour. There's a fluidity and such to the whole thing that you don't do at all in GTAIV.

I've actually never done free running on the roof tops of IV, I'm going to stick it on later and do this with a wanted level now.

What do you want, a medal.

The question im asking is this (its in simple English so even you can understand) DO YOU WANT PARKOUR IN GTA V?

I made the OP a bit more difficult so the people could express there own opinion rather than saying YES or NO. Next time ill remember that the people on this forum are not as intelligent as i epected.

So I can't bring up the opinion that GTAIV had no Parkour in it to start with, and that saying "do you want more Parkour like in GTAIV", isn't correct because there wasn't any even in the game, like I've been saying? You claimed there was, I told you there wasn't because Parkour is a lot more fluid and such, than what GTAIV's running system was. Sorry to have brought up an opposing side, next time I'll remember how sensitive you are to others.

Only if it's not mandatory in the missions. I don't mind having the ability to do some parkour tricks, but I definitely don't want the plot to involve some ghetto guy who happens to be able to climb walls... I want more of a gentleman protagonist.

definatly a gta protaganist has to know some crazy moves to escape from the cops but if they include a character who can gain weight or somthing they should have his parkour abilities to be limited because he is fat and has less cardio.

a gangster doing parkour? pfffft

I agree completely.

In that way we can aswell implement physical workouts and discussions about nutrition, health, training, and the philosophy of parkour.. which clearly doesn't have anything to do with gta. And how likely would it be that a gangster were a dedicated practitioner of parkour. None. Basicly. GTA should stick to being gta and not some kind of weird parkour wannabe simulator. The video posted in the first post isnt really parkour but rather running, jumping, and climbing, which is more than enough to have in GTA.

I don't think you have a clue how parkour could be implemented into a game like Grand Theft Auto V. If you've played Grand Theft Auto IV before, you'd know that there were missions involving chasing enemies on foot. Movies, particularly action movies, include parkour.

Don't believe me? Watch this:

Seriously, it'd definitely add suspense during chase scenes in the game. Parkour isn't just a sport. It can also be used in chase scenes.

And who in the world said Grand Theft Auto V's protagonist is a gangster? Hell, Niko Bellic wasn't even a gangster. Who said gangsters can't do parkour? You don't have to learn about nutrition, health, training, and the philosophy of parkour in order to do parkour in a game.

Parkour doesnt fit a game like GTA.

Also its a boring non-sport which only a handfull of people think is fun.

Given the nature of PCs/consoles, Parkour, if not impossible, will be hard to implement to a satisfying/sufficient standard. And I don't think it's worth seeing in a game like GTA. GTA isn't a sports game.

Who said gangsters can't do parkour? Who said the protagonist is going to be a gangster? Did you even play Grand Theft Auto IV at all? In no way was Niko Bellic a gangster. He may have been affiliated with some gangs, but was he a member of any of them? Not at all.

There was no parkour in GTA IV. You could walk, jog, sprint, climb and jump, and make one vault over an obstacle, and that's about it. It simply doesnt fit into the settings of a gta game. Most gangsters/criminal aren't super trained atheles and that's how it is. The chase scene in Casino Royale had Sebastien Foucan in it, one of the former members of the Yamakasi, so that's a completely different story.

The parkour people are talking about in IV was just using the standard character movements of running, vaulting, jumping and climbing. But it was slow and clumsy and hardly fluid enough to be called true parkour.

But parkour is a good idea for a feature provided the protag is suited to it. The character would have to be light and athletic enough. Either young enough to be part of the parkour generation or older and the moves are derived from part of a martial arts upbringing (I'm thinking Jackie Chan style). Provided these criteria are met, a form of free running could be included by making the existing movements more fluid and adding additional moves such as wall kicks etc.

You'd be introduced to it in a training mission or two near the start of the game. Then there could be a side-mission/mini-game activity featuring it as well as general use within the game itself.

In short, it would work. But as everyone including myself are saying, it all depends on the protag.

Not parkour, but more fluent animations. Vaulting for example was done very nicely in GoW if you pressed A fast enough, and in Battlefield 3, vaulting small fences and walls went so fluent it was awesome.

If the following things would be done, GTA V would be an awesome game to move about in it:

- smooth animation transitions from scripted animation (vault) to walking/running, instead of halting a second like in IV

- smoother and faster transition between hanging and climbing up an overhang or roof

- Nikos animations regarding still jumping. In BOGT and TLAD it looked like Luis/Johnny did not even attempt to jump

As for other animations:

- exiting and entering cars, the guy you are controlling shouldn't try to close the door anymore. I died too many times waiting for Niko to decide wether to close the door or to run the f*ck away, while I am tapping A as fast as I can.

Fix that and I'm the happiest GTA player ever, especially in MP.
