nkjellman
Is GTA V in the GTA IV universe or is it a new one? Usaly when Rockstar number's their GTA games they start a new universe. However, GTA IV's Universe hasnt been to Los Santos, or the rest of San Andreas, so it could very well be in the IV universe. It also has some vehicles from GTA IV. Id like it better if it was in the same universe as GTA IV. What are your thoughts?
Tomern11
I think that V affiliates with another universe. IV's was my favorite, but it's for the best.

The_Mario_Man
Nobody knows. And we likely won't until Rockstar releases a statement concerning it. Failing that, You'll just have to wait 'til it's out.
Death2Drugs
The next generation of consoles started a new era. Have we started a new era? No. IV's era is just too short to cancel and a lot of people will get unhappy if we switched to a new era so fast.

CrazeLaze
I think it's in the IV era cause there are lots of brand names from IV. Saying that. Vinewood was from III era, so i guess it's anyone's guess.
leik oh em jeez!
I remember it being confirmed a few days before the trailer that it's V is in IV's era. Either way, there's already multiple topics discussing the era.
Nebby
I doubt Rockstar* would make a new era for only one whole game to just throw it away in the future. Doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

bluesboyjr
It's the IV "era". There's some vehicles that are exactly the same, and logos for things like Burger Shot and eCola are the same. It's called GTA V because it's a good name - you don't wait four years for a "GTA Los Santos".

IV's era has only been to Liberty City, so we dont know what the other citys look like yet. 2. Cars from IV. 3. Brand names from IV.
ccrogers15
new number = new canon.. Sadly. GTA 3 era was the best in my opinion. it got deep and went to many places that era 4 lacked.
Dourvas
i am pretty sure its the new gta iv era..jimmy in the trailer proves this and of course some in game ads like the e-cola(gta iv ad now in gta v trailer)

Era = Engine/release console GTA, GTA II GTA III, GTA VC, GTA SA, GTA LCS, GTA VCS GTA IV, GTA V That makes a lot more sense than IV being by itself. First era was PC, second was Playstion 2/PSP, third is PS3/360 See? In each era, a new game engine is used, and old cities are reimagined, forcing the use of a new universe. None of those reasons are there for GTA V. Same era.

Rockstar doesn't even have a "scheme" anyway, they just decided to reboot the canon for IV for the new generation of consoles, and the fandom made up a rule. Magic_Al
There's no known REASON to break continuity from IV. The location has moved across the country and they can refer to IV as much or as little as they want to. GTA IV does not create obvious conflicts with GTA V the way GTA III is completely irreconcilable with GTA IV.
Brawly
Yes it most likely is the same universe as GTA IV. Just because it's a number doesn't mean it's a new universe, R* probably can't think of a name for it. Obviously they can't call it San Andreas, and calling it Los Santos would still get it mixed up with GTA San Andreas. Therefore the V is bold and new and still gets attention. leik oh em jeez!
didn't rock* confirm that they were done with the IV/ 4 era? Um, no. If you saw the same thing as me, it's the III era you're thinking of. Don't remember where I saw it though.
Algonquin Assassin
I always said that the GTA IV era didn't feel complete having only been in LC. I expect to see some characters minor, or major to make an appearance in GTA V in some fashion. Also the fact it's another modern game presumably set after GTA IV there's a strong possibly GTA IV's events may influence the game more than VC and SA did to GTA III. It might be the first time we get a solid sequel.
Magic_Al
didn't rock* confirm that they were done with the IV/ 4 era? No they confirmed they were done with GTA IV (no more DLC/Episodes). That map is played out. The universe isn't.
