Why there are 3 cities in GTA V...

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So below is my argument for why there will be three cities in GTA V...

1. Interstate 5 - Los Puerta Freeway hints at more cities

R* would have spent months planning this trailer release, and as you know they don't tend to give away too much. They give a small hint at more to come by giving a whole more scene focused on Interstate 5 - Los Puerta Freeway.

This, of course refers to the real life Interstate 5 which connects Los Angelos to San Francisco and the rest of the west coast. Notice it says north, San Francisco is north of of Los Angelos and takes 6 hours on the Interstate 5....clever and sneaky hinting by R*? Seems their style...

In a nutshell:

I believe R* showed this purposely to subtly hint that there is more to come...

2. They did it with the first GTA: San Andreas trailer

This is the kicker for me personally. I remember way back when GTA: San Andreas came out, everyone was pumped about Los Angelos in GTA, and no one thought that it could be the entire state, only rumours until it was actually confirmed a bit later.

In this trailer, they give WAY more evidence than they did in the first trailer for San Andreas. In that trailer, there was NO evidence of any more cities. Even the plane flew over only vinewood and los santos.

Check it out:

In a nutshell:

I believe R* made this version GTA V for a reason and not GTA: Los Santos, and like they did with GTA San Andreas, they are building us all up with speculation and rumours so they can later go BAM Trailer 2 with the Golden Gate Bridge & Casinos and have us all wetting our pants

3. They have planes? They have speed of sound fighter jets? They must have airports too...

Even in San Andreas they had to have an airport for the planes, multiple airports in fact. Did you see how freaking fast that Jet was in the trailer? If that plane is going to be zipping around that fast just for one city. What's going to happen? After the vineyards and huge mountain, you immediately start flying over water? I don't think so...

Also, R* have previously stated that there is no point in having planes for one city, especially with realistic planes....smile.gifsmile.gif

R* aren't going to have planes just for it to be crap.

In a nutshell:

I believe R* are going to employ planes very effectively, similar to San Andreas.

4. Is this a desert in the trailer?

user posted image

In the above picture, to me, that looks like a desert and another big hint from R* that this really is a revolution and a reason why it's GTA 5 and not GTA 4:Los Santos.

In a nutshell:

I believe R* throughout the trailer have hinted that there is more so that we would speculate and be tortured with debate and analysis in order to promote the game, it's amazing marketing and look at that screenshot, if that's not a las venturas hint then what is?

5. Mount Chilliad is in the San Fierro section of the GTA San Andreas world

user posted image

In the GTA World Mount Chilliad is in the San Fierro section of the GTA San Andreas state.

In a nutshell:

I believe R* has showed us the mountain to hint that this game is going to be HUGE and expansive.

6. The windmill part of the trailer is the Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm in between real world Los Angelos and San Francisco.

user posted image

The wind farm in real life is closer to Los Angelos than San Francisco, so this may not help my case, however, it is a fair way in between the two cities and is sort of passed on interstate 5....

In a nutshell:

I believe R* has showed us the wind farm to hint that this game is going to be HUGE and expansive where you will be driving through to get to San Fierro.

7. This is how Rockstar is.

This is how Rockstar are, they are MASTERS in marketing their games, at building the most intense hype, they give you a small nibble and your left wanting more. They have given lots of little hints in the trailer that would have been analysed internally at R* for months, they haven't denied it, they say they will revolutionise with this game, they will by launch time had over 4 years to develop GTA V (assuming they launch November 2012) which is more than enough time to develop three cities on an engine that is already optimised with games such as red dead redemption and GTA IV they can rapidly develop (similar to GTA San Andreas), R* have never had a problem with spending a HUGE amount on their games (GTA IV was the most expensive game to be made ever) which would allow them a hell of a lot of coders/designers to make the two other cities in FOUR years....plus all the hints and precedents they set with the first trailer for GTA San Andreas just seems so Rockstar.

In a nutshell:

I believe this is classic R* to build hype to only show a bit and lower our expectations and then SMASH them, just like they did with GTA San Andreas...

Conclusion

As is hopefully evident by now R* seems to be hinting very strongly at the possibility of the other 3 cities, I as an optimist really do believe there will be 3 cities as it just doesn't make sense to me with all these hints, evidence and precedents set that they won't.

But it's up to you, what are your thoughts?

Nice thread but you will be surprised to see that Los Santos will be the only city, one HUGE MASSIVE city! At least 3 times bigger than Liberty City in IV. And the country side will be a lot bigger than the country side in SA.

King Of Monra

I think they will do the same as they did with Gta IV

ony city (new york) or (liberty city)

just that it will be LA (los santos) this time.

But split up in 3 different parts, like they have (always?) done.

usually i would report this topic and say it dont need one, kind of like what he said above.

BUT this is very good and well put. I agree. I dont think its gonna be just LS. GTA SA never said there were more then 1 city at first and neither did the 1st trailer. Very good.

Have a cookie.gif baked fresh from grandmas oven.

I agree with you..

In RG page they said that in game will be LS:

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created
, so other guys are saying that there is not gonna be a LV and SF, just LS...

Yeah, RG said that there will be LS, but

they didn't say that there won't be SF...

Besides, that with wind farm in trailer and in RL (real life) have sense...

I hope there will be SF at leats

normally i'd request a lock but this is pretty well done, this should be the official thread for discussion.

But there's so many at the moment, saying basically the same thing (though I agree that at least this OP has set it out nicely).

yep, as well said. They never said there wont be other cities. They just said theres LS. biggrin.gif

I'm one of those who want SF and LV and will still believe they can be in V until they officialy rule them out, but the only acceptable argument would be the 7th. It would be brilliant as a marketing plan, and R* would be capable of doing it to make it more amazing.

All the other arguments on the other hand don't mean much.

1) The interstate can go through the countyside and deosn't need to connect LS to SF.

2) At the time of SA's first trailer, all three cities had been announced.

3) There are many airports in Southern California

4) A desert doesn't mean Venturas will be in it.

5) New era, new layout for the map, IV's LC doesn't feature Portland, Staunton Island or Shoreside Vale

6) We don't know for sure which wind farm it is, there are several in California.

They already released their officialo word stating only Los Santos. But nice research and analysis.

Where?

They (R*) have made one official statement since the release of the trailer. There are about 50 threads discussing it (of which this is one) Please take your head out your ass before posting.

This is so annoying. When will R* come out with the next trailer so people will stop bitching about this? dozingoff.gif

Oh and also your article is irrelevant, R* has made a statement saying that it will only be in Southern California.

After much confusion in rockstargames.com's comment sections, R* have chosen to officially announce the game stating that we're going back to LS and the surrounding countryside. I don't know what more evidence anyone would need.

They wouldn't want to spoil anything yet if they want to surprise us with the next trailers. And even tho they say that, they don't say that it's Only LS, but that it's probably where we start off.

Then why say anything at all? They could have just shut up and let people speculate, but instead they chose to specifically announce LS and surrounding countryside. Edit: Forgot the quote.

I agree that there is the possibility you are right on all points except with point number 6, there are three main wind farms in California; Altamont Pass Wind Farm, Tehachapi Pass Wind Farm and San Gorgonio Pass Wind Farm.

However, only Tehachapi Pass Wind farm even remotely resembles the one depicted in the trailer. The other two are located in desert areas with little to no vegetation. However Tehachapi Pass looks EXACTLY like the one in the trailer.

But I really like how you've thought through the different points, here's hoping for the 3!

They already released their officialo word stating only Los Santos. But nice research and analysis.

that there is gonna be only Los Santos .

No where did R* use the word only, that is false. From the press release they make it SOUND as if it MAY only be Los Santos and it's surrounding countryside, but, there has been no exact confirmation either way.

why didn't you qoute my all post ???

I was saying that to another guy...

R* didn't say that there is gonna be only LS, so there will maybe be SF..

Imagine if the next trailer starts up, the first frame is a super flashy shot of Las Vegas, imagine how many fans would lose their sh*t with excitement.

Anyways, I'm fine with them not including it, I'd love it if they did though, but I don't think that's the case. But the OP is right that R* does this stuff, not many game companies can afford it and simply give everything away during marketing of it and it's pretty pathetic (Batman Arkham City, game looks awesome but jesus christ they've shown everything) But Rockstar CAN do this, which is why they do. Rockstar can afford to only release 4-5 trailers with not a second of real time gameplay in it because they're rockstar

Good summary, but i don't want to see you people get expectations which can not be met. confused.gif

They said "the city of Los Santos". i don't understand how can you expect from R* to make a game the size of SA, and still having a very detailed city as depicted in the trailer.

I not such a fan of that city myself, but that's R*.

They will upgrade the city like hell.

I repeat myself.

Show me 1 quote, 1 web page where rockstar has confirmed that there will be ONLY one city.
