Who/What would you want the antagonist to be like?

In your mind for this new game, who would you want the antagonist to be and what do you think they should be doing for a living? (powerful business man, gangster, king pin drug dealer, dirty cop) What would interest you more in the story, what kind of antagonist would the person be? Would you want someone smart, powerful, strong, corrupt. Somebody where even halfway through the game you say "god i cant wait to kill that prick".

you do realise the ANTAGONIST is the main BAD GUY in the game NOT the main character being the PROTAGONIST

Well anyways, there are always different antagonists throughout the game. Just thinking about SA you've got Tenpenny, Pulaski, various enemy gang members, and even members of your own gang, just to name a few.

I agree i liked tenpenny because no matter what you did you felt like you werent in control. I was thinknig maybe this game it would be a corrupt politician. Owns the police, judges and everything that can screw up your life with the snap of his thumb and finger. Plus getting to him would be hard due to a crap load of body guards. What you could do in the story is slowly wear him thin. What comes to mind is the first punisher movie when castle goes into the bank takes the guys money and throws it out the window. You know small things to piss him off and throw him off of his game. Slowly wearing away at him so he makes a mistake or two. And catch him doing things that are corrput that you could photograph and put in the press. Might not be so bad.

I'd prefer an likeable antagonist, the kind of one what you would take a friendly beer with before you realize you should be killing him right now. Or one with good intentions deep on him.

I really liked Tenpenny. In fact, more than my favourite antagonist, he was my favourite GTA character ever. Samuel L. Jackson did help, but the character itself was amazing. He was just untouchable, he had his plans, was always way ahead of you, and I loved the way he managed his unit like it was a gang itself. The mission Catalyst shwo his way of dealing with things. He tells every major gang to check on a train, so that all of them would shoot each other and thus decrease their strength. Like he says : "Intimidate those who intimidate others. This is my job".

 

 

That said I wouldn't want the exact same profile again, one we didn't see in a GTA yet is the manipulative old guy, almost friendly towards you (Dimitri nearly corresponds to this definition but he's not respectable enough, too much of a snake, and he's not the main antagonist, well depending of the player's choice). A guy who would, like Tenpenny, plan things carefully and always be ahead of everybody, keeping control no matter what)

I think it would be awesome if it's some corrupt businessman or politician (what's the difference?) rather than the classic criminal. It would fit the current times very well and money seems to be a major theme in the game so far, even more so than before.

One you don't see coming. Think GTA IV, it would be great if the main antagonist seemed like a nice guy and they gain your trust but then suddenly turns your life into a living hell when you don't see it coming. Also for them to be a constant threat throughout the game and constantly having something over the protagonist.

My dream antagonist for this "theme"

 

In the trailer the main character is somewhat old and just wanting to settle down, much like niko in IV. Trying to escape a messed up past full of drugs, guns, crime and murder. The antagonist should be someone a bit younger and trying to take over los santos in a greedy gang related rage. someone that is introduced early but then suddenly stabs you in the back. a story of revenge, much like IV.

Villainess Please! A strong, smart, likeable Lady, but deep down, a Psychopath! Not as cartoony or annoying as Catalina, and not a stereotypical slut, but still a constant menace, and Beautiful! She should be a surprise, not obvious at all when you first meet her. Imagine if Faustin's daughter came after Niko for Revenge, and was revealed to be even Bat$hit Crazier than her Daddy! That kind of Gurl inlove.gif

Anna Faustin seemed too childlish and young to be credible as a threat. But yeah, why not a girl. But not the kind that carries guns, it's hard to avoid being stereotypical in those cases. I'd go for a lady who would be powerful and control an organisation but without being the official leader, like she's pulling the strings when the leader is just a puppet. With that much power, she could hammer us down and feel invincible.

Like Max from Mission Impossible? That would be Great too. As long as she's charming, warm, even demure in character. That would make the power she weilds even more disconcerting, terrifying perhaps.

Perhaps it'll take a Breaking Bad-esque route. The narrator seems to be an older gentleman, so you'll train one of your cohorts to the point where he feels he can be independant. He goes off on his own, f*cks you over, and you end up at odds with him.

 

 

We need different antagonists. GTA SA and GTA IV both had "the crooked cop" and "the grey-area government agent", although they weren't truly "antagonists" they were both shady characters that took advantage of you.

I want the main antagonist to be someone close to the main character and by that I mean a relative, so that when we kill him at the end of the game, it's an emotional scene, instead of a simple 'kill your enemy to complete the game' style scene, if that makes sense to you.

I like this idea too. Maybe you'd have to choose to kill him yourself, have a henchman kill him, or let him kill you.

 

If you kill him yourself, he/she dies in your arms and it's very emotionally touching.

If you have a henchman kill him, the henchman dies too, but so does the relative. And your family hates you.

If you let him kill you, you take over as him.

Okay, well the ending of GTA IV was pretty emotional too. And considering, in the scenario I was presenting, you'd have to shoot your brother or something, it'd be pretty emotional.

 

Don't get me wrong, I like blowing off people's faces with shotguns too, but sometimes a good story draws out emotion and not just savagery.

Kinda like The Legends of The Guardians. That movie was so bad ass. Best animated movie I've ever seen.

I want there to be a straight up bad guy not some wimp who betrays you half way through the game.
