Ify24
Hy guys, I have a question about texturas... For what image need alpha ? What acctualy is alpha ? How to make an alpha for the image ?
Adler
It's the transparency for an texture. White = Fully Opaque Black = Fully Transparent And every shade of gray in between is some degree of translucency.
ThePrince
and for glass ? howa to make glass ?
yo5pev
Just use an alpha with a shade of gray just as Adler said. It's up to you what shade of gray you choose, just experiment with it until you get the glass to be as transparent as you want, and if i remember well, the alpha should be an 8 bit picture (PNG, BMP or TGA). Ify24
here is an exemple: in alpha, the part in black won't appear in the game. So all I need to create alpha is that I need to: in txd workshop: 1. check 'use alpha' box 2. name alpha for image 3. click 'ok' ? Or how ? ThePrince
image: is a single image alpha: is a single image so, if you wan't to put a normal picture, import it to image section, and that's it. check this tutorial for more: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=310001

Ify24
Do I need to make it when I am making a image or in TXD workshop ? I am confused whit alpha... Can somebody give me a link how to make an alpha for the image just whit paitn and TXD workshop ?
ThePrince
i'll explain it to you again. 1- let say you have a image where you wan't only to show some parts, for exemple this hud: the final image is on the right, alpha is on the left as you can see, the black parts of the alpha is invisible in the game, and that's what alpha do. 2- no, you can't make alpha in txd workshop, besides, you can make it in MS paint or Adobe Photoshop. TXD workshop is only to assemble them, and make the images working on the game, because the game knows only TXD, and not .Bmp .Png ... and so. so, get/make an image, make it's alpha in Photoshop, and get them in txd workshop, and that's it
Ify24
Ok, now I have my image and alpha, I think it's ok, same size, ok.. ThePrince
look here: 1- click on N12 and import the normal image. 2- and then click on N13, and import the alpha. all that in the same texture (N16) 3- double click on N16, and check "compressing" 4- choose the game on N15 5- and click save (N3) Edited November 6, 2011 by ThePrince

yo5pev
I can see that you dont understand how things work so im going to try again. Follow the step by step tutorial i made on how to import textures and their alpha channel with txdworkshop. Step1: Import your texture. Here is a picture of how to do it. Just click the button highlighted with the red cirle. Step2: Choose your texture (browse to the folder containing it if needed). Here is a picture. Step3: After you imported your texture you will see that it has been renamed to BMP, TGA or PNG or whatever else. You will need to rename it to its original name. You can do that by double-clicking in the place highlighted with a red circle in this picture. Step4: After double-clicking there, an "Image properties" window will appear with a few fields needed to be filled just like in this picture. In the "Name" field you will need to write the texture's original name. Now check the checkbox called "Alpha is used" and write down the name of your texture's alpha name in the field called "Alpha". Step5: If everything was done right until step 4 you should get something like this. Now click on the OK button of the "Image properties" window. Step6: Next you'll need to click on the "alpha/mask" button from the bottom of the Txd workshop window just like in this picture. Step7: If you done it right you should see something like this. Now click the import button again (i guess i dont have to highlight it again). Step8: Import the picture wich will be the alpha channel for your texture just like in this picture. Remember that it will need to be an 8 bit grayscale image. Step9: If you managed to do this right you should now have something like this. In that image you can see how similar the alpha is to the original texture only that the alpha is black, white and shades of gray (8 bit) unlike the texture which is true color 24 bit picture together forming a 32 bit picture with alpha transparency (if i'm not mistaken).
