Mroz Posted November 5, 2011 Share Posted November 5, 2011 One of the things that bugged me about SA was Claude's cameo. It just doesn't sit right with me. I loved him in GTA III and I've always regarded him as one of (if not the best) protagonists of all the GTA games. The main reason it annoys me is the way he hooks up with Catalina in 1992, then 9 years later in 2001 (after the two travel to LC robbing banks across america in the process) Catalina decides to up and shoot him. The reason being her ambition and claiming he's too small time. I mean really? A relationship spanning 9 years in which the couple committed various crimes together and all of a sudden she tries to kill him? I know Catalina was a psycho bitch but it just doesn't tie in very well in my opinion. And why the hell would he want CJ's sloppy seconds anyway? The whole thing pretty much ruins his character. Anything could have happened really and Catalina is crazy anyway. I thought Claude's cameo in SA was just odd. I also think it was mistake giving him a name too. Mistake? I don't think so. I think they had the name planned all along. They even had a text entry with his name with the label DEFNAM. There was a rumor that in the beta you could enter your own name, but I think that this feature was for the multiplayer game, in fact I'm pretty sure that's the only place where it would have been useful. Mroz Posted November 6, 2011 Author Share Posted November 6, 2011 One other thing I noticed is that Claude is wearing the same clothes in the cut scenes in SA as he does in III. I always thought he got the clothes from 8-Ball when they escaped to his hideout so he could change out of his prison jumpsuit. This could easily just be a case of R* using the same model so players would recognize the character. But it seems like a pretty obvious continuity error anyway. But also in my opinion, I think that his appearance kind of ties the whole Catalina/Claude affair together in the GTA III cannon. I also think that peoples reasoning for thinking that Claude's appearance in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as being an odd one and for loving him in Grand Theft Auto III was because of the fact that you are seeing him from a different perspective in GTA: San Andreas, and are not playing as him like in Grand Theft Auto III. CJ knew Catalina, what, a week? It's not like Claude expected her to be a virgin when he dated her. Plus, from what little I do know, Claude went to some pretty elaborate lengths for his revenge against her. He appears in two missions I think, and then once you win a race against him Catalina gives you the slip to a garage in Fierro and they go to Liberty City, which brings up the III game story. This is all people on YouTube ever talk about, all the little SA Fan Boys constantly - on any GTA Video that isn't even to do with San Andreas it's: 'Oh it'd be so cool if they released San Andreas in HD for Xbox and PS3 maybe it could be about The Ballas and stuff?' It's like - dude the majority of people are getting what they wanted and the game is going back to Los Santos, forget about Rockstar releasing some kind of San Andreas follow up or something in 'HD' - would be a waste of time. Plus it'd just be a complete joke for them to release SA in HD and ignore GTA III and Vice City - it'd be as if they're showing favouritism. I replayed GTA III there last week - and honestly, the majority of the game felt like you were just running around town doing stupid mindless missions for any old unlikeable bastard, I know this is the case in every GTA but in the other games it felt like you were working towards something like finding someone or finding missing cocaine etc But with this, I literally didn't know what Claude wanted and were the game was leading - until towards the end when you start doing missions for Asuka in the construction site and Catalina's name is mentioned for the first time in the whole game.. and the last mission itself didn't even feel like it was a revenge mission, honestly - so to me it didn't feel like Claude was bothered about getting revenge, but I put this down to him not talking so we couldn't get what he was thinking...
