bread
How do you think the combat system will be like? I remember one scene in the trailer in which someone was pushed and fell down to the ground like a ragdoll. But, seeing as IV's combat system really hit the nail on the head (in my opinion), how do you think GTA V's fighting system will be like? Will there be first person? The ability to form combos during hand-to-hand combat? Discuss.
Cosmic Gypsy
i thought GTA IV's combat system was completely sh*t, slow, unresponsive, tame, lame.... pretty much total sh*t.... RDR's was even WORSE! im hoping the fighting will be like the warriors... which is easily better then any game when it comes to fighting... you can tackle, grapple, throw people around, headbutt, knee, elbow, punch, kick, use street objects as weapons, use surfaces dynamically in fights, smash people through windows... it was faster, more brutal, funner then GTA IV.... but i doubt there gna be smart enough to do this... so im just epecting a slightly more improved GTA IV fighting system..... (which literally comes no where near as close as being as good as the warriors) for me, a better fighting system is more important then new guns. r0eladn
The main character should have steven seagal skills. No wait, a mixture of seagal and chuck norris. someone comes at you with bad intentions, you use jiu jitsu to break his arm and automatically rape him/her afterwards. r0eladn
I, personally do not care about hand to hand combat skills. First of all in most gta's i hardly ever head into a hand to hand duel. I usually use a gun. Therefore the system as in GTA:III was good enough for me, nothing fancy necessary. But this is just my oppinion. I can very well understand that some people would like this more 'developed'. In which case i can imagine people would like to see: Left/right hook button kick button block button. Mixing button combinations to do special moves. Also the SA skill bar could come back, as well as learning new moves.
Cosmic Gypsy
Cheat cheating in a fight.... maybe they could introduce biting someones ear off as an "anger" move when your beating the sh*t out of someone lol

Cosmic Gypsy
i think the reason most people use guns and barely ever fight is because the current GTA fighting system is so unfun and awful. if it was fully developed, i think youll find smashing someone through a window then kicking him in the head sparking him out instantly will be more fun then just shooting someone
meson1
I thought the combat system was fine in GTA:IV. But when I see people posting how much better other games manage to do it, it would be all the better if it could be improved and made more responsive. I presume that the titles that are being referenced are non-specialist fighting games. We don't yet know for sure how many protags GTA:V will feature (even if it's only one, we should expect to see DLC episodes with different leads), but each one should have their own fighting style. So while the controls indicate what kind of move to make, (jab, punch, block, kick etc), each protag should execute the equivalent move in their own distinct fighting style. Or alternatively, that could be part of character customisation features a lá CJ in GTA:SA. So in other words, a cross between GTA:SA (i.e. different fighting styles) and the direct fighting controls featured in GTA:IV. But perhaps with improved controls as supposedly some of these other games. Edited November 5, 2011 by meson1
Gravedigger69
how about slamming a ni**ers head thru a car window ... now that'll be cool
thegangstermaul
I think it would be pretty cool if: your fighting someone, but it's kinda like slow, then there comes up on the screen what you should tap: If its ps3, it could be X you should tap. If you didn't tap it fast, he will punch you, but if you tap it in right time, it will do a super cool move like breaking his arm and then kicking him in the face so he dies. I don't know what to call it, but it has been in many games before. Thoughts?
TheGreene2010
I'd prefer GTA IV combat system over any other GTA game, just make it more responsive.
paul
LA Noire's hand-to-hand is pretty good. Punch, grapple, counter and finisher. GTA is mainly about firearms when it comes to combat, so no need to bring advanced stuff..
Turin88
First-person? Doubt it.. though it would be cool.
Ratone
As far as moves and concepts are, I think GTA4 had a promising fighting system. The problem was the execution, lots of time your moves didn't connect, you would try to kick a man down and the game wouldn't register it, the character moved too slow in the combat too, i would expect being able to rush in. Groundogg
I think Uncharted has a nice third person shooting system, it's fluent and dynamic. GTA IV was good, but it felt kinda slow at times, especially when you were trying to use cover. If getting in cover wasn't already a task within itself, you then have to deal with the ballache of turning around, the clipping issues that occur when you approach a gap, the gormless way your guy stands around when you exit the co- loldead. Red Dead Redemption was a bit better, it was quicker, but it looked buggy at times and there were still annoying pauses whenever you did anything; especially when you aim and shoot a bolt action rifle and he stands there contemplating life while he reloads the gun. I wouldn't want a system as fast as Uncharted, it'd be kinda unrealistic in context, but maybe a system with nice fluent animations like Uncharted and quicker response times than GTA IV/RDR. As for shooting, I have no problems with GTA IV, a quicker response time again in the time it takes to draw the weapon would be nice. It's not too bad on the whole but noticeable when you want to turn around and aim. Vehicular combat should stay the system, helicopters are and should be difficult to shoot with and drive bys are ridiculously satisfying. Adding the ability to use assault rifles, or maybe even RPGs in the backseat of a car would be a nice addition. I have no problems with hand to hand combat either, it's retarded fun. I hate to bring Saints Row into this but I dislike the way they have those mini-cutscenes whenever you hit someone like twice in a row. It gets old after a while, it'd be cool if Rockstar could incorporate a combat system that allowed you to combo and perform finishers outside of scripted cutscenes, but if not; leave it as it is. I had many lulz hosting melee only servers on IV in the prison map, although sh*t did get quite real when people stole cars from the surrounding areas.
