brickhead119
I feel there should be more things to do in the minor scale of things that will immerse you more into the gameplay. Little things made gta 4 so much fun for me and a decent amount of players. It felt so real to see people walking on the sidewalk talking on their phones or buying food. The same goes with your character it just made the game seem more real. Now im all for Fun over Realism aspect but some things that are more realistic seam to make things more fun and these are my examples of those. Destruction : When many of you hear this related to video games maybe you think of Bad Company or Red Faction. I do not want that for GTA because the technology to have huge cities and a huge variety from things like weapons to vehicles and even the advanced physics will not allow full on destruction to happen in this game. Thats not what i mean by this topic. So please dont read up to this part and post saying "we dont want GTA : Bad Company" I feel that the game should offer more realistic destruction for some aspects of the game. Ranging from Vehicles to particles on the sides of walls and streets. Vehicles : Many things should determine how vehicles are destroyed and how they will look. Now i love GTA 4's Destruction of cars but i feel they should be taken to the next level. There should be different ways to destroy a vehicle in either a hilarious or beneficial way. Remember those missions where you had to stop a vehicle without killing the people inside. Ussually your choices were to pop the tires and try to spin them out or box them in. Maybe set them on fire but im pretty sure sometimes the people would keep driving until they blew up. Well what if there were other ways to disable a vehicle. Now denting is realistic in some aspects but metal dosent just bend. It also breaks and tears. Vehicles should have a number of ways to stop them from working. So far the only way is to destroy the engine. But say you throw a grenade 10 feet from a car. When that blows up the car should indent from where the explosion was and probably tear the doors off and implode the windows and a wheel would be torn to shreads and off the axle. Or say your in a Plane with a very high caliber cannon on it. Your going down the Highway and your buddy has a car. You feel like messing with him. So you unload at the top part of his car and just plain shear the roof off. (An Example of this in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgwW_hxmZAU) Well do you see how the cannon from that plane just obliterates the top half. Well the car still works and the person inside is fine but damage like that is important in immersion. If it was GTA 4 the car would of took a few shots and blew up. Those shots could be fatal as well. Maybe i strafe a his car right in the middle and the front half is completely seperated and causes the car to burst into flames. Or i fire once and the bullet leaves a huge hole right where he was sitting all the way through the car. Things like that could make destroying cars more then just explosions and dents. Location is also important. I want the ability to implode the Left doors or maybe rip off just one wheel. I dont want to destroy the whole vehicle just for taking off a wheel. Explosions and bullets are a huge part of destruction too. Shooting in the right area could end someones day very quickly. Say its the first few missions in the game and you and your friend are chasing down someone who owes you money. So your buddy is driving and he gets right next to the car. He screams for you to shoot at the engine. So through the side of the car you take out your shotgun and fire. The vehicle just shuts off and you hear the engine making noises. Suddenly the hood pops up and the engine is on fire. The car is still rolling even though its off and the people inside are screaming for the driver to slam on the brakes. He stops the car and everyone runs out. You chase down your guy and beat him up for the money. Well you just took out the car without killing anyone and got the mission done. All you needed was one shot and its over no more chase him until he crashes at this place or spin him out in the street and set the car on fire. Of course thats not the only way to disable the car. Maybe you shoot the tire right in the center. Instead of just popping the bullet pierces right through and dehinges the wheel. Now you see a car dragging on the ground sliding everywhere until it stops. Or you shoot through the door and clip the drivers legs. Well now either the car takes off or grinds to a halt. Choices in how you do something always allows the player to immerse himself into the game. Now we come to explosions. Location is definitly key for how lethal you want it to be. If your feeling like obliterating everyone in side throw a bomb right on the front windshield and blow it up. That explosion just sheared all of their heads off along with the top of the car. Or its a mission where you need to sabotage someones car. So you sneak in a few minutes before they get in and plant a bomb on the bottom. Well they are driving down the highway when the car explodes and throws the car off the road into the air and it comes down as a fireball as everyone slowly roasts. Depending on the power of the explosive depends how quickly everyone dies and how they die. Of course my 2 examples were pretty low power. But if you had a block of c4 or something the car would probably explode on detenation. You could still have your fun though. I dont think there should be invisible barriers when it comes to vehicles in any aspect either. If i want to break some guys window and throw a grenade into his car. It should go into the car if i threw it right. Not bounce right off even though there is nothing preventing it. That would be fun to watch a grenade explode in the car and watch as everything is sheared outwards. Destruction and Interactivity ussually go hand in hand and the ability to do things in a car that lets you feel like its a real car is always fun. Now im not asking for the ability to fill up your car with gas when you run out. Personally i feel like that would hold back the game if every 30 minutes i would have to get gas for my car. But i want a number of options in vehicles and specifically ones that could hold more then a few people. Interactivity : Vehicles have always been developing this aspect in GTA. Personally San Andreas and GTA 4 have had the most with GTA 4 cutting and adding aspects. Most of you probably think im going to talk about the ability to customize vehicles. Yes that is one of the things i want to be able to do but i feel most of the community has already covered that. I want to be able to chose what i do in my vehicle. This could range from a simple change in the radio station all the way to opening up the hood and looking at my engine. I feel that interactivity could be another aspect to immerse you into the game. For example say I find a Cargo Plane in free roam with my friends. Thats cool but none of us get to see what its like when were flying it. So why cant we do more things with it. This plane is huge and i want to have to walk to the cockpit. So i walk into the bay of the plane and i see seats in there and its big enough to drive a car into. Well one of my friends thinks thats cool as hell so he gets his favorite car and drives it in. AND IT LETS HIM. His car actually is allowed to drive right in there and sit inside. And thats awesome. So my friends are chilling down in the bay so i walk upstairs in the plane and sit in the driver seat. Now we go back to the 3rd person view of the vehicle. And i have an option to close and open the bay doors whenever i like to. And thats cool when my friends want to skydive with a car. The ability to see the inside of a car and walk around in it even when it is moving is an awesome idea and would be very cool for gunfights if your in the back of the ambulance and you take out a rocket launcher and can walk around with it. Closing and opening doors is also a cool thing if your walking around in the back of an ambulance. Its not like they have to aim and it will open. They could open one door and take cover on the other while the door dangerously swings around with the turns. The ability to interact with vehicles like that would be awesome for gameplay and would open up a bunch of doors for creative direction. So now here is something i could do with my friends. Me and my 2 friends are messing with this other kid. We have radar turned off and he just got in a plane with his friends. They all go up to the cockpit area and are sitting up there. Now before he closes the bay we sneak onto the plane. He takes off and has no idea were downstairs. We take out a few explosive charges and throw them around the bottom. One of his friend walks downstairs and see us doing this. We open fire and he dies as we strike a window and a fire extinguisher. Now the fire extinguisher is fogging up the room making things hard to see and the window is sucking all the air out like in a real plane and makes every noise muffled. So we shoot the hydraulic pumps on the bay door and the door drops open. We jump out of the plane with our parachutes and as were falling the plane blows up and shears in half. The front half plummets to the ground at bullet like speed as the other just tumbles slowly on fire. The people in the front are still alive until the plane hits the ground and basically pancakes and blood and metal is found all over the street as fire engulfs it. Well that would of been the coolest thing ive ever done in a GTA and is definitly possible. Now that experience and a bunch others would make gameplay really fun considering the game consists of mainly vehicle and gunplay. And the Physics would make it awesome to see a plane tumble in real time smacking builidings and rolling and denting. Other things possible could be like shearing off the tail in a helicopter. Normally you would need another helicopter to do this. Well now all you need is some creativity and some knowledge of the situation and you can do all sorts of things with any vehicle. Maybe i have a high caliber rifle and i shoot right through the base of the tail. Well now fuel is leaking out and it catches on fire. The Vehicle slowly plummets as its spinning until its engulfed in fire and smacks into a building and explodes into a firey mess. Maybe you and your buddies are messing around and you have a friend in the back of a bus. Now you come barreling right into the bus with your jet plane. On impact the bus is sheared in half and is bent from the impact. The Driver is fine as long as he gets out before the fire starts. But your plane is just broken in half and metal is everywhere from the impact. Of course both of you died but it was worth seeing a plane wrapped in bus metal and blood burn up as it tumbles into other cars crushing each of them as it rolls over. Destruction and Interactivity go hand in hand sometimes. As many of my examples show you can do almost anything you want. Maybe shoot the fuel pump and watch as fuel drips out of a car and you just light it on fire and the car explodes. Or maybe your in the back of an ambulance being shot at and someone rams into the back of your car causing it to bend and crush you inside. The Ability to do anything you want with a vehicle would open up many different ways to play the game. That is my idea for now i will probably add more as questions are asked or when i realize i missed something. Please criticize or add your own ideas. Eternal Moonshine
All this interactivity probably can't be scripted and would require some really advanced physics. I'm not sure if it's doable in real time even on the next generation of consoles. It would still have to be simplified and scripted in some ways
brickhead119
All im asking is for some simple interactivity. The destruction isnt that important. I would still love to be able to walk around the inside of a Cargo plane and be able to open the bay and drive cars into there.
Zee
If R* really is intending to do only LA, they better damn well have more enterable interiors/random things happening on the street. Liberty City was a ghost town in 4, even in places that are supposed to be crowded like Times Square.

DlZZEE
This won't happen until next gen consoles.
TyphoonJames
Agreed on all points. For vehicular interactivity, there should be more things for cars, like popping open the bonnet and inspecting the engine, like some pedestrians do in GTA IV. And the ability to use a cargo plane's hold. Also, if the fighter we saw in the trailer was the Hydra returning as an F-35, it should have VTOL when the engine vectors down and fire weapons like it does near the end of Die Hard 4.0. And I'd much rather you have to place grenades carefully to do specific damage, not just lob them and then they do massive damage, and for the damage of explosives to make metal peel like a banana, or have tons of frag holes. itsGTAVtime
Agreed. I dont think that realistic damage is possible, but I always dreamt of throwing a grenade inside cars. I also would like to be able to get inside trucks like you said. You have great ideas there.
samyG
You probably CAN cause some (minor) environmental damage but it won't be permanent.
Segador
I want them to add the surfing feature in RDR. In GTA4 as soon as you stood on top of something in motion you would immediately ragdoll and spazz out. and I miss hopping on top of a large truck barreling down a highway and shooting cars like in GTASA
73duster
I would LOVE more interactivity and destruction, but REALISTICALLY, i think it's just too much to ask of the current console capabilities. This can be possible on a game with a much smaller scale. I think it's something we'll see well in the future, but perhaps not for several years. I suppose THAT will be one of the big improvements with the next gen of consoles.
Slamman
Already disappointed at the look of particles and smoke, not a vast improvement, as in car's spinning tires to produce burn outs and get vert... Brake-stands, etc? I'd like to see better smoke effects, mix some BLACK in with the smog
