graphicsH
Hi Community, I want to make a GTA:SA Mod called San Diego Wars. But I need a advanced Modder to help me,because I've never modded GTA. (But SWBf2 already...) I don't want from you to do everything (what most of you modders will think this by a try from newby),but to help me and explain how to do basic (I've already learned from a couple of tutorials, but they doesn't really helped) and special things (like edit other city like Liberty City, tricks and more). What I want to do: Total Conversion: *New City's: San Diego,Tijuana *some new clothes *some new cars, planes, boats *online-world-mode (with 6 bosses wich should be able to make new mssions ingame) *and more I know,it's much work, but if you have time and patience mail me: [email protected] P.S.: I won't give up too quickly! Node
Okay so GTA V's on the verge and your wanting to start a total conversion? out of a 100% what percentage of people are going to be interested in a new total conversion (for an old game) when a new GTA game altogether is in development?? Dont mean to come across nasty but seriously think about it dude your total conversion will take time, and people will get less and less interested as GTA V gets closer and closer to the release. graphicsH
I can "walk".I'v already modded a game (Star Wars Battlefront II).But never GTA.That's why I need someone who helps me and teach me more things about modding GTA.
Frank.s
Ah, how much do you now about modding gta? Do you know how any of the files work? Have you used gtamodding.com for info? 'Cos it's got tonnes of useful help. Do you have 3dsmax? You'll need that (i use 3dsmax9) and Kams scripts and Denisas 3dsmax script pack dff exporter for SA if you want to make new map objects, also txdworkshop to put the textures into new .txd files, and steve.m's coleditor 2 might also be useful for fixing+improving the collision files of your new map. I can't tutor you in-depth but i can post in this topic with answers to your learning questions. Edited November 5, 2011 by Frank.s
ThePrince
you know how to use 3ds max ? scripting ?
Frank.s
you know how to use 3ds max ? scripting ? Oh yeah thats another thing, once you've learned to make a bit of map and put it ingame then you'll probably wanna learn how to use SannyBuilder. SB is used for scripting missions and a lot of the interactive stuff in gta.
graphicsH
I've downloaded them and learned a bit of useing them in tutorials. But for 3D objects I use SoftImage.
graphicsH
but i can post in this topic with answers to your learning questions. would be helpful. So,one thing: Is all in SA an object to place? (ground for example)
Frank.s
Not sure if i understand you, could you re-phrase the question? If you want to remove the San Andreas world "map" then you need to MapClean it.
graphicsH
I've already 'cleaned' it. My question was if ground is an object. Because in most other world editors earth is no object like a house. It is everywhere and can raised etc.
Frank.s
Every place in GTASA is and object (including the ground), San Andreas state is made up of thousands of objects.
graphicsH
I already thought this. Will be funny to design hte ground of San Diego,US-Border and Tijuana... Lot of work! The cones wich i need to enter a building are also objects i can edit?
Frank.s
Yeah it is a lot of work. Do you mean editing the cone to be a different object or setting new places to put the enter/exit cone? The cone object is diamond_3.dff and the texture is in diamond.txd but the cone is also used in missions to as an arrow that hovers over charecters/vehicles/objects so that causes problems when modding it. When used as a enter/exit marker it is know as an "enex" (short for enter-exit) and all enex's are colored yellow, in missions when the cone hovers over a car it is blue (i think) and it is red when its hovering over an enemy. graphicsH
For now my last question: For a new object in the world i have to make a .dff and a .txd file and copy them into the gta3.img 'folder'. After that i can use the object in the MEd editor. Right?
Frank.s
Almost. You need a col to make the object solid, also it will crash if an object is added in-game without one.
graphicsH
What's a col? Edited November 5, 2011 by graphicsH
Frank.s
Collision, the format is .col Try this Tutorial Or this one Edited November 5, 2011 by Frank.s
ThePrince
Collision is what makes objects solide. without it, you will walk through the walls and so.

graphicsH
thx fastman92,helpful link. One map point is assumed to be one meter from real life But what's a map point? Edited November 7, 2011 by graphicsH
fastman92
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartesian_coordinate_system XYZ: set of 3 coordinates; width (left-right; West, East on 2D map), length, (top-bottom; North, South on 2D map), height Sample coordinates: 990.0, 879.0, 15.0 Map point is one point of game world. In GTA San Andreas there is no exact scale 100% compared to real life since buildings were manually created by developers and no use of 3D scanner has been invented. However 1 map point is supposed to be one meter and that`s the way how units in statistics work. There`s no way you can make a total conversion without even basic knowledge. Total conversion is modifying almost every aspect of the game and requires deep knowledge on how to turn it into something else. Good luck..
