Tipper
There are a few wind farms in California, and they kind of look all the same so I don't believe we'll find out which one it is actually.

Mr. Scratch
Yes but I was talking about the roads which look quite similar and the mountains in the back. Edited September 29, 2014 by Mr Scratch
Darrel
I think thats probably right. Also note the number 78, which means there will be at least 78 of them?

Mr. Scratch
Yes it's real, it's the LADWP wind farm so it's LA, also I believe each wind turbine is numbered and has a sensor of sorts that shows if anything is wrong with it. Mr. Scratch
I don't know, to me it looks like the Altamont Pass Wind Farm which connects San Francisco and LA. Edited September 29, 2014 by Mr Scratch

iGrandTheftAuto
Yeah.. definietly the game will be focused on Los Santos But it looks f*cking amazing i'll buy it Same. It really does look amazing even though it is only LS, which is kind of dissapointing, but at least it's not some other location like Washington D.C. Mr. Scratch
Yeah, and I don't understand why people bitch so much about the game being only in LS, I mean the areas surrounding LA are pretty damn big. It's a long way to San Francisco in real life. Edited September 29, 2014 by Mr Scratch
Ispintechno
Looks like a spot on the map that will look like Afghanistan in about 6 months when this puppy goes online! That's where! Soon it will have the Rat-tat-tat of automatic riffles, choppy thunder of attack helicopters, screams of Hydras, and sizzles of RPGs firing off skyward. Looks like a peaceful windfarm now... It's a long way to San Francisco in real life It's not a matter of size. I'm not saying I'm disappointed because it seems too small, I'm saying i'm gonna miss San Fierro and Las Venturas which had a different vibe. And San Fierro was my favourite city in SA, so even if GTA V is likely to be awesome, I'll miss Fierro.
Inactive
I guess we'll get SF if locations like these are there. Still, the 'one-city' thing weighs more, that's all.

San Fierro bridge in the fog in distance on the left too? Interesting to note that a seaplane flies from the direction of the apparent 'bridge'. Mr. Scratch
Well one thing is for sure, we will get Mt Chilliad because the Altamont pass is in the Diablo range which also has Mt Diablo, Mission peak, Mt Hamilton and the San Benito mountain so that means there may be more than one mountain. Mr. Scratch
This might help us estimate the size of the map. Edited September 29, 2014 by Mr Scratch

polvofiloso
No clue where they'll place it in the game but it's definitely modeled on the San Gorgonio Pass wind farms. There are three major wind farms in California: San Gorgonio Pass (near Palm Springs), Altamont Pass (east of Oakland) and Tehachapi (near Bakersfield). The terrain and vegetation in the trailer definitely pinpoint it as the desert setting of the San Gorgonio wind farm. The other two are farther north, in hillsides covered with grass and oak trees, which don't look like what we see in the trailer. I can see the windmills of the San Gorgonio wind farm from my office window. I've frequently driven right out in among them, they are massive, and the re-creation of the actual generator covers, towers, blades, etc in the trailer are spot-on. In meatspace, this windfarm is situated about 100 miles due east of LA. Its desert hillsides, with bare dirt/sand scattered with small desert shrubs, just like in the trailer. It straddles Interstate 10, the main east-west freeway coming out of LA. If they tried to match the scale of the map to the real life placement of the windfarm in relation to the city, it would indeed be a HUGE map. But come on, its not going to be like that, they have to take artistic license and place the windfarm where it needs to be in order to maximize the gaming experience. Even so, it does suggest that the game will have large swaths of open desert, plus lots of outlying communities. Just like Liberty City included areas to represent areas that were outside the real NY (Alderney=New Jersey), my guess is they'll make an attempt to recreate at least parts of some of the surrounding areas of LA that have their own flavor and can add to the game experience. I'd bet there will be a representation of Orange County, think of all the great satire they can milk out of that. Then there's the Inland Empire area (where I live), with all its industrial decay, trailer parks and suburban sprawl. Maybe the rich snobs of Malibu and Santa Barbara along the coast to the north, the meth labs and gangs of the Palmdale area in the high desert, etc. Face it, the possibilities are endless and plentiful, without the need to try to cram San Fierro and Las Venturas in there too. Save those locations for an equally in-depth treatments in VI and VII.
