So what should that tell Rockstar? If most fans REALLY love San Andreas over IV and what they did with that, that should effect their delevopment decisions. People still aren't asking for more depth, they're asking for 3 major cities a min. They aren't asking for one city they're asking for whole states and regions. Spoiled? How about SA set the bar that needs to be met and until we do we're just wasting time and stagnating.

I do see where you're coming from, but how do we really what else R* have in store for us? As much as people wont admit it and are continually living in denial praying that SF and LV will be revealed like they were in SA I can't see it happening. R* said it's a re-imagining of "Southern California". Even as a non-American I know the cities SF and LV are based on aren't in Southern California, so they pretty much confirmed it without needing to say it directly.

We have to remember this map is a complete overhaul. It's not the old SA map with SF and LV chopped off. In R*'s eyes SF and LV may not even exist in this "world" they've created. It's largely like GTA IV's LC. The only thing LC had in common with the old one was its name. When people say "It's not SA without SF and LV" does this mean GTA IV's LC isn't LC, because it changed every single island from GTA III?

In saying that R* could use 2 cities they've never used before, but anyway I wouldn't be bothered if I was proven wrong and SF and LV did turn out to be in the game. I just think atm people are letting their emotions take hold, before we really know much about the game.

Don't let the absence of SF and LV be a deterrent is all I'm saying. smile.gif

Yes it's not the full San Andreas, but the GTA V Los Santos will be the biggest GTA game yet.

I think that's kind of immature. Just because it won't have the other cities, it doesn't mean it won't be big. In fact, I would love to see them create a city that really lives up to Los Angeles.

It isn't going to be only Los Santos. They'll be a whole heap of surrounding areas. I have a feeling one of these will be a small-ish city. Don't stress about the map dude. the game will be great.

This x1000.

It's gonna be big. I am proper excited ever since they stated they are only doing LS with probably a huge map of desert/countryside. I think it's the best thing they could have done.

SMH @ crying over ONLY one city. As i said before, if they make LS atleast as big and detailed as LC, and then add the beaches and countryside (which already looks f*cking amazing) i'd be jizzing for days when it's out (lol no homo) inlove.gif

I was a little let down upon hearing that Los Santos may be the only city included in V, but V was never portrayed as San Andreas 2. There's a lot R* can do with a 2012 LA setting, and I'm quite excited for it.

Also, R* really hasn't given us any reason to expect a super-serious, extra realistic game. In fact, jet planes flying through downtown LS and the overall bouncy vibe of the trailer lead me to believe they're headed back to their silly roots.

I love the other cities! I prefer them over Los Santos! I'll very sad if they won't be featured in the game!! sad.gif

Snake Without a Tongue

I've been registered at this forum under this name since '06 and I've created about two topics. Know why? Because 95% of the time someone else has beaten me to it. Seriously, does anyone lurk here?

It's just Los Santos, grievance successfully lodged. Now let's wait for further details.

I got that impression too. Hopefully they can find the right middle-ground between the fun of III-era GTA, and the seriousness of GTA IV.

I feel different. To me, the whole Area 51 stuff ruined San Andreas for me. Too much bullsh*t put together. I prefer the realism of IV.

If they reused the old SA map with 3 small cities you'de be crying right now.

With the current draw distance you could see all 3 cities the second you got up in a helicopter at medium altitude.

Keep it in the past, it's not applicable now. This will be MUCH better.

We always remember old games better than they where because they ruled at the time.

I can understand people's dissapointment that they are going back to San Andreas but only using one area. But I think once you see just what this game will offer you'll be very happy. I mean most other GTA games only took place in one city, San Andreas was a one-off. And back then it pushed consoles to their limits and such things just might not be possible right now if you include all of the detail and the fact that it's the "biggest and most ambitions game" R* have made to date.

I think people should just relax and wait and see just how great this game will be, I'm sure you'll all still buy it, and I am positive R* will make up for the lack of extra cities by making you forget all about them cause you will be enjoying the game so much.

Remember Liberty City from GTAIII compared to Liberty in GTAIV?

Yeah, nobody has been here before, nobody is really going back to anything. This is new and epic.

Its going to be Los Santos alone I suppose. It could include one more city, or it could be split up into two mini cities a.l.a. Vice City but that's about it. Three cities - appears less probable at the moment for me. As for whether it will be great or not given that Los Santos was the poorest city in San Andreas without all the glitz and the flash, I have full faith in Rockstar after playing four Grand Theft Auto games. As a matter of fact, I have committed myself to buying every Grand Theft Auto game released in the future for the PC (since I don't have a console at the moment). They may disappoint countless of their fans with a Grand Theft Auto but these games suit my playstyle to such a huge extent that I'm confident that they will never disappoint me. I am getting this irrespective of the city, its size, and its price and everything. I may not be confident of my life but I'm confident of this game for sure !!!

I have already said not to worry because the other cities will most definately be in GTA5, without a doubt.

Here are the main facts, and I'll be brief.

- Planes were not in GTA4 because R* said it's un-realistic to feature airoplanes in a world which consists of only one city. We have seen planes in the trailer, this means there must be at least another city to fly to.

- The rural area's were only put in GTA:SA to fill in the gap of travelling from one city to another, realistically, between cities there is countryside/desert separating them, what would be the need for having the countryside in the game if it didn't lead to another city?

- Mountains in real life are not by the sea, meaning the mountain is more than likely to be positioned near the center of the map. put Los Santos on one side, and another city would have to be somewhere on the other side.

- Returning to San Andreas, which is a state, means for sure LS cannot be the only city, if it's a state, then it will have more than one city.

Nuff said.

1: The game world is absolutely massive and will push both xbox and PS3 to the very limit in terms of what it has accomplished. Yes, the main city is simply Los Santos however is it AT LEAST 4 times bigger than Liberty City in GTA 4 and that is just Los Santos. The surrounding country side, beaches, etc are massive. For instance, we saw the main character ( an African/American, early 30's) travel by car from the center of Los Santos into the wildnerness and it took over 15 minutes. The views were incredible from farmhouses with cattle, huge wind farms, an oil refinery which appeared to be living and breathing with nearly 100 NPCs working on machinery, operating vehicles, lifting and loaded, etc, unlike the gas works in GTA 4 which seemed to only house a few NPC at a time. The forests are more beautiful than those in RDR and featured people camping, young NPC drinking and dancing around campfires, people riding dirt bikes and jumping over logs, streams, etc. The water effects, forna, plants, trees all looked beautiful.

2: The shooting mechanics have been greatly improved with animations for diving, climbing, rolling and crawling all added for better realism. The re-loading animations for new ammo also look cooler, less static.

3: There is much more climbable elements in the world such as ladders, overhand climbing, etc.

4: There are animals in the game from dogs to cattle but at this time it is not confirmed if you will be able to harm the animals. Rockstar were able to get away with it in RDR as it was a true depiction of the world in which the game was set. Allowing dogs/cattle to die in a game sent in current times may cause headaches with PETA. Its unclear if Rockstar were joking here.

5: There are planes to pilot and they can be crashed into buildings if you choose to do so....

6: Rockstar have included many, many more interior locations such as a shopping mall, college campus, police station, a huge hospital and there is also a vast underground sewer network which one mission later in the game involves a jet ski chase that culminates in a Fugitive-esque waterfall jump ( there are nods to the ridiculous but awesome Ballad Of Gay Tony missions)

7: The city is full of NPCs jogging, weight-lifting, hitting on women, being chased on foot by cops, shopping, washing cars, fixing fences, moving home, filling up their cars, etc.

REAL JUICY INFO:

1: Cars can be upgraded/repaired and it has been considered to have a car have fuel forcing the player to fill her up.

2: The dating aspect of the game is gone. You still have a cell-phone but only people you will meet in the game will call you to ask you to do a mission or to ask you to do something else before the mission.

3: Weapons include the usual arsenal you'd aspect but the flamethrowers, remote mines, laxer trip mines and claymores are included. It is possible now to pick up random objects in a street/buidling to use as a weapon. There is also a museam where it is possible to steal old age swords, axes, etc.

4: it is possible to rupture a fuel line and if you shot at the trail of gasoline it will lead straight back to the car blowing it up.

5: mini games such as bowling, darts, etc have all gone. You can play basketball, weight train, arm wrestle, gamble and cage fight, enter triatholons, water races, cannoing, ab-saling, rock climbing, base jumping, ski diving. More to be confirmed.

6: Character customisation is back but only in terms of clothing, body weight, etc. The player you start off which, much like CJ, can't be altered by race, age, height, etc.

7: Rockstar said burglary missions may return but only as part of missions and not on neigbourhood houses.

8: No children NPC at all. Ever.

9: There is now an ability to grab people and use as sheilds or in "hostage" situations.

10: The cops are much, much, much more realistic. If you kill somebody when you know there are no cops around you will not run the risk of a one star as often as you would in GTA4. The cops will use smoke and tear gas, dogs, riot gear and rams to knock down the doors of buildings you are hiding in.

11: You can enter some buildings and lock doors, push objects in the way to barricade.

12: You become better at things as the game progresses. If you only ride motorbikes then you will increase your skills, same as individual weapons.

13: Certain weapons can be customisable and some even home-made.

14: One mission involves breaking out a very familiar GTA icon from a previous game...

15: Torrential rain fall and sunshine and even tremors will appear in the game

Frankly, I'd be just as happy if we had a map the size of San Andreas and then had 2/3 of its as Los Santos and the rest just countryside and mountains.

This is probably what it's going to be. Who wouldn't want the biggest city in the history of GTA and still have tons of countryside around it!

R* have confirmed that V will take place in a re-imagined Southern California:

"Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."

--R* Press Release

What comprises present day California?

Southern California (SoCal) is a megaregion, or megapolitan area, in the southern area of the U.S. state of California. Large urban areas include Greater Los Angeles, Greater San Diego, the Inland Empire and Orange County. The urban area stretches along the coast from Ventura through the Southland and Inland Empire to San Diego. The international border of the United States and Mexico makes up the southern border. Southern California is a major economic center for the state of California and the nation.

--Wikipedia

GTA V will be comprised of multiple cities. Just not the ones that we were all expecting. Also, there is a possibility that we get involved in some sort of cross border U.S./Mexican drug war.

The blimp, maybe, the surfboards are popular in LA too, who knows? They could add some good waves physics to make surfing a good feature. I think the dog think is out of the question, sorry I'm not with you on that my friend. But planes? There's a crop duster and a jet plane, I really don't expect them to create the models of these aircrafts and not allow us to fly them. I would think we can. I'm not certain, but I'd say the chances are high.

And yes I know you're being sarcastic.

I will still buy the game even if it's LS alone, without a doubt. Whatever the circumstances I know it'll be a game worth paying for and for the consumption of my spare time.

People used to say if GTA4 wasn't set in London they wouldn't buy it, but it was still one of the best selling games to date. I was one off those 'for' the London setting, I still bought GTA4 though... the truth is London is a big difference, due to factors like road-width, the side of the road we drive on and the scenery isn't really inspiring, it's just long roads with terraced housing, public housing areas and green areas in some towns. It'd make a great game but the change is a bit major at the moment.

My point is, the fans aren't always right, R* know what they're doing, it's their game, their decisions, and their profit, so rest assured they will make a product worth our while, it's their job, and they know how to do it. Their aim is to make money remember that, I doubt they'd mess up.
