tj11
You guys seem to know pretty much everything about computers, so I thought I'd ask for your expert assistance. I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm guessing it's gonna be some complex answer involving command prompts or something. But anyway, let's say I have a folder containing 500 jpg images, named in sequencial order. For example; img_001, img_002, and so on, all the way up to img_500. What I would like to do is add a letter (the same letter) to the beginning of each image file within that folder, such as a capital 'Z'. The problem is this - how do I do that without having to "re-name" each and every file individually? Please try not to get too technical, I'm still a bit of a PC noob. I'm using a very basic Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. Your suggestions would be much appreciated.
OverTheBelow
Using a batch rename program. Download BetterFileRename and you should be able to figure it out once you get the feel of the program.
Wolf68k
I like Rename Master http://www.joejoesoft.com/cms/showpage.php?cid=108 It feels more like using Windows Explorer Plus it's free and no installer needed, just unzip and go (yes there is a setup.exe in the zip file but you don't really need it) I still use a really older version, 2.76, because I like it better than the newer ones and it still works on Win7
Slamman
Perhaps a free tool like XnView for image management, and you can use Hotkeys to speed up renaming, like Right Key (mouse also associated on the keyboard with a notepad symbol) once you select the image, you right click, press CTRL M and it's auto highlighted for a new name input, it can be faster if you are needing to select files names. You can also get a Live Windows suite of tools offered with no cost to you, but you'd best have Broadband and required space on your drive

I chose Rename Master because it was free. It took a little while to figure out, but it's actually a very simple thing to use, not to mention versitile. Thanks a lot, Wolf, you really have no idea how much that helped. You're a legend!
