zippo55312
Obviously Im all for realism in gaming, the more realistic = the more immersive. But when applied to GTA I think a problem arises- the more realistic it gets, the more weird going on rampages get. They definitely haven't gotten to that point yet, but Im just thinking, I mean take the extreme- a gta game with photo realistic graphics, unique npc models and unique dialogue as well. That would be really f*cking dark!!!! Shooting a photo realistic woman screaming for help??? Im not down for that sh*t. So Im worried as technology gets better, we are gonna get closer and closer to that point. its weird for me because on one hand I would love for gta 5 to step up the realism, but maybe not too much. Going by the trailer, obviously its not yet at the point where Im not gonna go on rampages. But like kiling some of those characters- like the campers- that could get a little weird. jogy
Good point. Think Rockstar is facing this same issue. But the main thing Rockstar want's us gamers to have is fun. When it becomes too realistic it becomes harder to achieve that imo. So yeah Rockstar will try not to make it too realistic.
Breaking Bohan
The graphics didn't look quite that good but it is an interesting point which will probably be an issue a few years down the road if they ever create realistic Virtual-Reality type games. Ergo if you understand it's only a video game, it can't get weird IMO

zippo55312
Guys stop coming at me like Im soft and not gonna play gta 5. I am, and Im surely gonna kill some motherf*ckers. But I'm just saying its gonna be a bit weirder then it was in the past. But in 5 years, with crazy next ten technology? then rockstar has a real dilemma on their hands. The Nihilist
People just have to learn that it's a fantasy, not reality. Learn to hold onto what's real and what's not, and realize that even if a game gets more and more real with it's progression through time, you'll always be in 3rd person with GTA, and not actually having a gun in your hand. Linki
I thought killing sprees in RDR was a lot more disturbing and graphic than GTA. I personally would love to see it as dark as they can get it, but hey that's just me.

I actually thought about that when GTA4 came out. When the npcs were being run over and I shot a cop with a scoped assault rifle I thought to myself, one day this is going to be so realistic that it might get disturbing. Today I cruise the city on various bikes finding good things to do tricks off of. But yeah, that day will be interesting.

Algonquin Assassin
The only thing that would somewhat disturb me is the ability to rape/torture. Not saying it's worse than killing, but since we're all used to killing in GTA games the ability to rape/torture in a very realistic setting would be pretty f***ed up. zippo55312
I say let it get real as far as it can go I say at this point I'd agree with that. But what about in like 5 years would you still make that statement? Would you go on a shooting spree in a photorealistic game?
fgcarva1
This is a valid and fair point. In IV I didn't mind the lack of blood. I wouldn't like V to be a gruesome game where people's guts fly off of their bodies. Remaining bloodless would be fine with me. To be quite honest I just play Multiplayer nowadays and usually just fistfight NPCs haha
EscoLehGo
like someone else said earlier, there's a mental divide between reality and video games. i don't think how realistic a video game got, even with a nature like gta's, would i become disturbed by it because i just flatout don't associate things that happen in video games with reality. that's just me though
CJfoo
Well you watch movies don't you, that's unrealistic stuff happening to realistic people. Yeah but in movies you aren't a character. In video games for all intents and purposes, you ARE because it's you controlling the character and making the decisions. I agree with what you are saying OP, I had a very hard time with hurting people in GTAIV for the same reason, especially the first few times I hit pedestrians with my car or knocked someone out. It lost it's cartoony feeling and suddenly it became very dark. But Rockstar knows that and they will use that to manipulate your emotions, the same way a good writer or filmmaker does. They won't back off of it, they will make it more and more realistic and it will be upsetting. That gives it some real conflict when you have to make a decision to let someone live or kill them. Also check out the concept of the Uncanny Valley. It means there is a place where realism gets SO real yet not exactly right, that your mind gets DISGUSTED because it KNOW it isn't real but it looks SO real. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley
