BoringAdultWithAFatGirlfriend
Are any of you from SoCal? I just moved to San Diego a few months ago and apparently wildfires are very common in the Southern California region. So, they can block off areas with by placing police roadblocks because of a wildfire in a certain area. Just a thought. I am. Wildfires are practically a season down here. Dry weather and strong Santa ana winds light this place up annually. In 2003 and 2007 the fires were so bad it snowed ash and the smoke clouds were visible from space. Would be awesome to see them featured in the game.
Inactive
At 1:09 in the trailer (I think) a plane is seen flying over the 'Vinewood' sign! I decided to put the 'multiple-cities' thing to test using San Andreas. I went to the LSI Airport and bought a ticket to LV. Started my flight and to my amazement, after some distance, the plane flew over the 'Vinewood' sign just like in the trailer (but wrong direction tbh). I'm guessing that there is a chance that there will be more than one city/major airport! Any thoughts?
FelipeVinhao
I think, if the city will be so huge, story will begin in countryside and than move to downtown.! Took the words from my mouth. I was about to post this. I also thought the could use the mountains and hills to block the city/towns - maybe tunnels connect them all, and they could start blocked, just like the bridges from previous games. Cosmic Gypsy
Wildfire barricades. if it is just 1 city, there is no logical reason to seperate the map in anyway, apart from wildfires..... but why would you block off country side in the first place? Dr. Zoidberg
probably wouldnt want to go to the country side we cant stay here this is bat country! then the protagonist gets over his fear of bats and then youll be able to explore the country side
Versous
This is not a lie, IGN had a map up of gta 5 but removed the post. The map showed 2 islands. Everyone said they lied, thats why it went down. Sounds kinda plausible.

However I think it just might be for cinematic effect.
boogernut
Even though very little is "definite" at this point, I feel like the map being bigger than the trailer lead on is a given. They had GTA IV to do what they wanted with a confined/packed city, so now they can go to a more expansive landscape. Plus Rockstar mentioned it was their "biggest project/work" up to this point or something like that, so how could something that is so big not also have a big map to match it? I don't think so 'cause the planes in SA will take the EXACT route as seen in the V trailer. User-controlled planes can't be that precise!
Versous
I am VERY confused right now. Cause it seems like there must be something else that is big. I'm not saying it must be another city. But maybe a huge desert/wood or something else. I think that this "2.5 times bigger than RDR" rumour could be true!

Well this was a trailer so it's not like it was captured footage of people actually playing the game, it was premade animations and my guess is they just wanted the plane to fly over the vinewood sign exactly like it did because it looked nice. So to be honest I have "no hopes" if you know what I mean and I knew that the game must be huge since there are planes in it. But today it's the first time I saw the RDR map in comparison to GTA IV's map and realized how big it could be if it's 2.5 bigger than RDR. I can't help but think that there is something else that is huge. As I said it could be a desert/wood/jugle*lol* or whatever.

Well there's gotta atleast be 2 airports in the game, and if not in another big city atleast something like the airport graveyard in SA.

MajorVienna
I think I might have figured this out. Perhaps certain areas of the map will be blocked due to a Volcano's eruption (and cause chaos in game similar to what happened in europe? likely parodied too), I just checked on a map found on (ahem) wikipedia (as I don't know the US so well) and apparently there are volcanos in california (dormant at least). Remember that in one of the booklets of the DLCs for IV, there was that clue of the covered up poster? that 'Prepare For The Explosion' poster? surely that poster actually was some kind of clue, otherwise why bother wasting our time? Originally I thought this was a reference to the Mirage in Las Vegas with it's volcano show that explodes every hour, suggesting Las Venturas for the game. Also I also found that there is a town in California called Volcano, so yeah... not sure what to make of that. I think it's possible the mountain we're seeing in the trailer is a volcano and that the characters we are seeing are from 'chapter 2' of the game after the eruption (and protagonist 1's death) has come and gone and the trees have grown back. swishersweets20031
its all one big land mass so i'd say wildfires, bridges broke.. government gives a bailout so then it opens up the area..
DAWeeE1
Why would any parts of the world have to be locked up? Why can't Rockstar have it all open this time? A wildfire in the countryside parts actually seems pretty feasible.
ch3vychas3
I reckon it would be cool if we started in the middle of nowhere and had to do the reverse... not likely to happen, but I personally would find it more satisfying to do missions in the middle of nowhere out in the mountains and bush and then slowly make my way to civilisation
