Map Estimation Size

Probably around 2X The size of the RDR map.

I'd be really impressed if it were that big.

I think it will only be slightly larger than Redemption's map.

I heard that the total map area of GTA V is going to be 5x as big as Liberty city.

Who told you that?

There were so called "leaks" months ago where it said that V map would be the 4/5x the size of IV's Liberty City. Just a load of crap and has no truth to it.

But let's be real. If Rockstar is going to utilize their engine and push the consoles to the limits, why not make it 4x of Liberty City and 1.5x of RDR? It's possible and it would sure as hell make the game the most 'ambitious' ever.

Well we all know there are planes in GTA V, so that means the map will have to be significantly bigger than GTA IV was as you could cross the map in a helicopter in no time at all and planes (being faster) would be useless even if it were twice as big as GTA IV.

So i'd say about 3 times bigger than GTA IV was, definitely bigger than San Andreas was with the speeds of the helicopters, planes etc being more realistic now.

Just to make some things clear:

The map of GTA San Andreas is about 13.6 square miles big. The map of GTA IV is about 8-9 square miles big. To the endless discussion if the map of Red Dead Remption is bigger/smaller than GTA San Andreas' map: According to Magic_AI's comparison, what he has done early this year, RDR's map is way more detailed but smaller than the map of GTA SA.

I agree. I've mentioned this several times before. San Andreas is clearly larger than RDR, and any other Rockstar map to date. I don't know what the "official" numbers concerning these maps really are, but while RDR IS impressive, it has a lot to do with traveling by horse. It would shrink by a LOT if you could fly a helicopter across it's map. Just look at GTAIV for a comparison. It doesn't seem that small until you use the helicopter, then SUDDENLY it's glaringly smaller than you think.

San Andreas was quite an achievement for it's time, and even by today's standards, it's quite large. I'm hoping it's at least twice as big as San Andreas.

LA Noire:

- Huge map, nothing to do

RDR:

- Huge map, somethings to do, but nothing afterwards

People screaming for a big map don't realize how big and useless things are gonna be...

Yeah, but this is GTA so we'll be able to take to the sky and drive outlandish offroad vehicles colgate.gif

how do you know? we might just get bowling and darts again...

**Attention: Rockstar employees do not "leak" game details. It's never happened in the past and it won't happen in the future. Please think before you post, and use common sense.**

So there. Don't believe any rumours about V. Was there any true ones? tounge.gif

I expect GTA V to be larger than San Andreas which was 13 Sq miles right? RDR is supposedly 25 Sq Miles, so i expect it to be up to/bigger than RDR's supposed size.

I say these things due to these quotes, i could be reading to far into it though.

Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.

Dan Houser: I've got to be real careful here, or they will drag me through the office and whip me with barbwire. I will stick to exactly what's in the press release. It's Los Santos and the surrounding country side - and a very big map.

"The city was simply too small for effective and enjoyable flying. It was the first time we made a high definition open world, and it was a massive amount of work to make something on that scale – we simply could not make an environment big enough for planes to work properly. Fear not, they are returning in what is our biggest open world game to date."

Someone on another thread did the math, and came up with something around 85 sq miles. It's rumoured that it is 2.5x bigger than RDR.

How can you do the math when you only have screenshots of selected areas. The map might be a thousand times larger than RDR, how would you know?

Info about new screens was leaked via Twitter day earlier. It was too specific to be a coincidence.

No, GTA IV Liberty City is about 8-9 square miles big. The map of GTA Vice City is about 3 square miles big. The map of Far Cry 2 is about 31 square miles big.

GTA V will be obviously have a size between GTA San Andreas and Far Cry 2. When I think about it more then I think GTA V's map will be about 20-25 square miles big.
